Very interesting comparision :up: As some were suspecting earlier, 965P-DS3 seems to be indeed a bit slower, across all benchmarks you've run. I wonder, If this is typical for 965P or perhaps only DS3 shows this noticeable drop in performance. We'd have to see e.g. ASUS P5B Dx to to report for that comparison as well... Don't you have one, lying around somewhere? :)

Well seems like the Asus P5W DH still king of the hill for performance, but the gigabyte isn't really far behind for a cheaper board.

Hrmm, this seems to contradict K.I.T.T.'s findings, doesn't it? I though he had the DS3 ahead in 3d apps? Can't check, as the pics are gone from his post (bandwidth exceeded)

it just goes to show you that the I965, which has the ICH8(R) chipset, was not designed to beat out the I975X...memory performance is the game for the I965X..if that interpolates into better video performance for certain games, so be it!

Yes, it does, but K.I.T.T. only ran one run of each, which can lead to huge variance. This testing had it run 3 times each, to help eliminate possible misfindings due to variance.

Sorry for the OT, but what NB cooler is that on the gigabyte board?

its a good question,in K.I.T.T.`s comparo(amazing thread) P5W gets raped and now DS3 look not so good,everyone knows about E66/DS3 oc issues,did Gigabyte maked a DS3 for Allandale chips?
K.I.T.T. is using an Allandale and me a Conroe

It will be nice to see some ~350 FSB comparision... maybe timmings for 400+ FSB in DS3 are very loose to allow more overclock.

Now it looks like I should have gone with Asus rather than gigabyte. Plus there is more mods for asus.

the DS3 is "made" for the E6300/E6400... it's a wonderful Allendale board.

But for the hardcore Conroe action, the extra $100 is well invested.

Right, this is a comparison of clock for clock.

It would be interesting to see DS3 vs ASUS in a max performance test with the allendales using same ram/cooling, etc.

So if you buy Allendale, get a 965 mobo.

If you buy Conroe or Kentsfield, get a 975 mobo.

Is that a good assumption??

i dont think you can go wrong with any core 2 duo build, it just comes down to price i suppose so i might be like you bottomsup and go with cheaper build
