It may not be obvious to everyone, but Asus put some clear protective plastic on top of the NB and SB heatsinks to protect the finish.
It's hard to detect unless you know it's there and I didn't see any sticker telling users to peel it off.
Leaving it on is hardly beneficial from a cooling standpoint.
Peel it off!! (The NB/SB heatsinks actually have a mirror finish when exposed)

Taking the covers off will actually allow the air to pass through the fins on each heatsink... the covers are pretty but they're more for looks than anything.

Anyhoo. I imagine that those covers keep dust out of the heatsinks for us normal users. I have an old 800mhz celeron that had the NB fully plugged with disgusting dust. Nice to know you can take those covers off though.
