i heard this game often crash to desktop b/c of OC. A lot of people said that after 30min/hours of game play, it just crashed to desktop. The problem was solved after they turn the cpu back to stock speed. So ..... maybe there are some sort of code written in the program that monitors temps of cpu/gpu or something (just a guess dont flame me)
No, it's just that games stress CPU, GPU, RAM and system bus all at the same time and heavily, whereas most stress-testing programs tend to one or the other. I found BF2 to be very difficult, I had to back off 100MHz on my overclock to get it stable when all other games were fine.
yep - i must agree that BF2 is more stress-test than Oblivion (although the last one has better graphics). When i was trying to clock my CPU all i needed to try was BF2 demo - if it starts - than clocking succesfull, if no...then downclock.Quote:

That won't work. 3DMark gives the system a break every few minutes while it loads the next phase. I can get 100MHz more on the CPU and 50MHz more on the GPU if all I'm running is 3DMark. The same speeds will crash if I try BF2 or Oblivion.Quote:

that would be much better than oblivion, imo. Oblivion is tough, but it has bugs which may crash your system with no fault to the hardware.Quote:

For instance, if I ran Prime95 for 90 seconds, stopped for 20, ran again for 90, stopped for 20, and so on for 24 hours, would you say my rig was Prime-stable?
One thing you can do is leave something like Doom3 running a timedemo loop on a high res to stress the graphics card, while running something like Prime95 in the background to keep the CPU fully loaded.
Since when was one program ever enough to stress a complete system?

BF2 is kinda poorly coded if I'm not mistaken... that might be it lol Oblivion crashes when I alt-tab though heh

you wanna game stress? find a game that uses 512mb of vidram, run dual instances of small FFT prime, and download a 4gb file(windows vista beta works!). turn fans down low, and let'er rip with a looped timedemo.
I don't think so... my PC doesn't even seem to run full load, or otherwise doesn't put a lot of stress on my PC. I have a 3700+ @ 2.9 GHz and dual 7800 GT's and the CPU was hitting max 51 C, which is still pretty reasonable. For e.g. large COD2 multiplayer games can sometimes hit 54 on my PC.
Overclocking has nothing to do with the crashing... it's that the game is so friggen buggy.

Yeah Bethesda still need to fix some critical bugs before it should be considered a good stress test. I've had it crash a dozen of times on several completely stable machines...Quote:

That's part of the problem. There's nothing out there that really stresses a machine fully...chipset, ram, cpu, video...all at once. Trying to run more than one thing lessens the effects of the tests.
