Crossfire Bridge For 80nm ATI Cards CONFIRMED !!!

AS OF JUNE 10TH, 2006 !!

Plus a peek at info on RV560 and RV570 :) No more mastercards !!! :D

So if this bridge is only on 80nm chips then this photo is of the new 80nm ATI cards?

They would have to be high end cards I would assume since you can already use midrange cards with no master card.

"ATi has demonstrated their upcoming 80nm GPU offerings behind the doors of Computex to their close partners which is none other than the RV560 and RV570 slated to launch in Q3 this year. According to sources, RV570 & RV560 are based on R580 architecture and is meant to replace the current X1600 series graphics cards. ATi has also revealed the new Crossfire bridges which is very similar to NVIDIA SLI bridge concept that link both cards together so there is no need for a master card and the dongles anymore. Instead of just one bridge like the NVIDIA's, ATi solutions require 2 bridges to work so perhaps the bandwidth is doubled as such. ATi is on track to release R600 by end of the year and has been taped out as we have learned. R600 is based on 65nm process technology and Unified Shader Architecture, quite similar to the Xbox360 GPU."

:woot: I'm so happy. ATi is REALLY getting serious lately. It's been bing bang BOOM for them. Go go go!! At this rate, the new generation of card's will be out by the end of this year, for both ATi & nVidia... and oohh boy are they gonna be off the hook.

I always wondered about this area of the cards:

To me, it looks like it could use the VIVO part of the RageTheater chip for cross-communication...but the missing BGA-mount component there I always thought might possibly link up the ram from either card, thanks to the ring-bus tech.

Crossfire w/Mastercard had awesome efficiency. I would love to see similar performance out of a bridge setup.

Actually if they adopt flexible links we could see daisy chained Crossfire for unlimited number of cards
