before apply CPL to my intel 651... i love to use this thin blade to apply any kind of thermal paste

it is not easy to apply CLP... sometime i did the paste too thin and cooler base can not 100% touch the paste, i added a drop in the middle to ensure CPU and cooler base perfect touch

I understand CLP should not be used on Alu but isn't the IHS Alu? Correct me please if i'm wrong. :)

Read this thread, I think its wise to stay well clear of this CPL crap cuz it will indeed harm your IHS in the longrun(not visibly but damages will be there).

when you apply thermal paste, its best to put put one little tiny drop in the middle, and let the pressure of the heatsink do the rest. This is been proven too btw :banana:

Unless the testing of each compound was carried out over a week the test isn't interesting from a cooling perspective since we all know that AS5 takes days, up to a week, to "bond" and reach the peak effectiveness. Took ~4-5 days and my CPU suddenly went 4-5 degrees cooler the next morning.

ps. I wouldn't let that liquid corrosion aluminum killing chemicals near my equipment.. ;)

An IHS is nickel-plated copper, so shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Way too much arctic silver 5 on there.

mine 7900GTX vmoded 1.55v core is using AS5 for over 1.5 mos
it must be over 100hr burn in as AS5 official website require. moreover, i turn on and off and that is another requirement for AS5 burn in... so now let me show the magic of CLP... (to me it is woow! like the 1st time i use AS5)

I really want to try the CLP, I'm only scared that it would eat the core of my winchester. (I have the IHS off).
Does anyone know if the bare core can stand this liquid metal stuff?

You use way too much thermalpaste, i used to spread my AS5 on the whole IHS when i first got this 3000+ but last time i installed the cooler i only used a small drop and that small drop even improved my temps compared with the whole IHS covered in thermalpaste!

ill stick to shin-etsu G-751, has given me better results than AS5, and i prefer not to put some crazily conductive (and proven destructive... atleast on aluminum) TIM on my components

Whoever is worried about IHS being aluminum, don't be. IHS is anodized copper.

you can only anodize two metals: aluminum, and titanium (different process)


copper can be plated, but not anodized - the IHS is made of nickel plated copper

u can anodize copper. its just a b***h of a process.but it can be done.asked my uni profs today and they reckon its gd to go but cant see y u wud want to.
