Will it fit 1/2" barbs?

Could you do me a favor and measure the distance from the front of your MB tray to the inside front of your case? I want to get a U2 Opti 1203 and I am curious if I can fit a rad setup like yours (shrouds, fans, rad).

Well from the profile view they look like the same barbs on the MCP655 pump.

That thing looks great and I wish some company would produce a carbon copy of that, with the same material and everything. I would buy one without asking for the price.

Actually delrin is better here, because metal's thermal expansion would make the acrylic crack.

Sorry about not posting more info, I did but then Fugger messed with the server again and it ate my post :D The barbs are the new babs that DD is going to be using on everything soon - http://www.dangerden.com/images/fitt...ting_chart.jpg They are 1/2" barbs and the thread is G 1/4" which is nearly identical to what Swiftech uses on their blocks which is 1/4" NPSM.

@Coroner Kyle - you are better off calling MM and speaking to Ben, he can give you measurements, it will be sometime before I could get them to you.

@k0nsl - I should be getting firm pricing from my machinist tomorrow or the next day. These can be churned out quickly if there is enough interest.

the ID is almost a full 1/2", and ~5/8" OD

Kapt, while your right that a copper res will disipate more heat than a Delrin res, Niksub1 isnt exactly hurting for cooling. With 6 CoolerMaster Al Fans on his PA120.3 ( with shrouds IIRC), adding a copper res isnt exactly gonna do wonders for his temps. A considerably lighter delrin res would make more sense.

True, but then the opposite is also true. If case air is say 5C above ambient (not uncommon) then the metal res would heat the water more quickly, as the metal (copper, al whatever) is 5c hotter than ambient. In this case, the delrin would be preferred as it won't act as a heat conductor. Now if you want to install the res in a freezer, then yes metal would be much preferred. FWIW, I have a brass res that is the same size which weighs nearly 4 lbs. This one weighs maybe 8oz. I'll weigh it when I get to my office.

On a side note, I need a line of some barbs. eddy_EK has some G 1/4" barbs that are o-ring sealed as well, but dealing with him is a pain. If anyone has any ideas, give me a shout.

water temp vs. ambient temp of what the res is located in is what will be worth worrying about.

Exactly, it is not worth worrying about. There are cases where the case air would and could be hotter than the water temp...

In your opinion nikhsub is a machinist really needed for this? I would imagine a high quality drill press and some bits could do the job fine.

I can't be arsed with doing it myself for one. Two, if I am going to do something, I am going to do it right. I see far too many products that just suck, or have bad aspects to them. If you held this in your hands, you would not have made that comment. It is very well done, first on a lathe then on a $250,000 CNC. Anyway, if the price is not right, then I won't have them made, simple as that. At least I have my 2 :D

If it costs like 50 dollars per unit, I think it can be done. I mean a cheap acrylic res from DD is already almost 40, and thats with CHEAP plastic. 50 or 60 for a res that doesn't break is worth the money.

How long did it take you to make that?

I've always loved the style of the aquatube. The looks were always great, but the stupid aluminum construction, tiny fittings, and those damn germans just made it forbidden. I'd definately pay around $50-$60 for one of these easy.

Well I dont see how a product would suck just because it was machined by hand. I have seen people with very steady hands and they could do wonders with a drill press:clap: . P.S How much did it cost you to make the three?:clap:

It wouldnt suck, it just would never be as perfectly machined as something a computer has done.

Well I just broke my costs down for MATERIALS only... $27. That is without machine time... I have no idea what people would be willing to pay? Not that I'm in this to make money, cause I won't.

Around $50-$60. This thing is unique, durable, reliable, and sexy.

its worth double my $hitty HDPE res EASILY

so by logical progression on the low end $36

but since this is a one off project and not mass produced I understand it being a bit more than that

I'd pay $45-$50 at most

Well the aquatube is around $50-60 and this is sooooo much better, so probably $50 at the most.

What will the final cost include, tube, fittings, window, mounting kit?

If you get alot of orders will the machinist give you a volume discount?

Yes he will, but I have nothing from him yet... and remember, the aquatube and the fass-o-matic (innovatek, $75) are priced WITHOUT any mounting hardware... I plan to do the same.

I have been waiting since the fass-o-matic came out for someone to make one out of anything but aluminum.

Is this the same dimensions as the fass-o-matic? that way we can just buy thier mount if we want?

Little update, gonna tweak this to mate up with existing aquatube mounting plates... means that the glass and mounts will have 5 screws instead of 6 and this will be a drop in replacement for folks with aquatubes...

Are you gonna engrave it like AquaComputer does with their front plates? I'd be cool if instead of AquaComputer they said XtremeSystems.

I kinda like the diamond plating idea. Very unique.

I'm not to concerend with price.....If I was i wouldnt by a storm block.....I'm highly interested in one of those for a new setup......Just not sure which style would suit me better. Would you mind shooting a price via PM to me Trying to estimate my total cost of new water cooling before i make orders. Also im assuming thats 1/2 ID hose fittings.

BTW, LMAO at that link to the aquatube corrosion.. When will they learn.

German Engineering are mostly about bling, not too much brain. Their cars break easy and their res corrode.

They have some very nice water blocks, but yes the seem to overlook the tiny detail of corrosion.

They keep stateing that there wont be a problem is you use a corrosion in hibitor. Obviously they're wrong.

just saw this thread and i have one thing to say for certain:

it's about damn time!

forever we've all been looking for a res that:
- won't leak
- won't corrode
- has decent flow characteristics
- has a variety of nozzle options

i believe this res fulfills all my dreams about what a res should be (at least what a small, internal res should be). great job nik. sent you a PM. i want it bad.

not sure what you could hook that temp probe too other than the fan-o-matic.

Any timeframe as to when the res will start to get worked on? I must say this res is helping me save a load of money as I do not want to rework my setup until I get the res. The reason I want to rework my setup is when I had to adapt my FuzionHL to an x1900xt. So as of right now I still have 500 bucks in my pocket.

You dont NEED 2 spare 5.25" slots, you can mount this thing at the top of your case with this:

Just cut a 3.25" or larger hole in the top of the case, mount, done. This is why there are 5 barb ports...

We are looking at 2 weeks from the time i get materials (delrin) to the machinist, but, we are reworking the mount to mate to aqua stuff. I'd say 30 days at most.

Well, not good news regarding mounting my res to existing AC plates... it is not going to happen. Essentially, my part is about 1/8" smaller in diameter than the AC part. What I am going to do however is have plates made that are the exact size as the AC parts so those will bolt right in to where someone has an AC part. We both thought and thought (me and machinist) and decided it would be to risky to attempt to move the outer mount threads further to the outside. It is a plastic part afterall, we also thought have the six bolts is better, again because it is plastic. Never the less, things will be underway starting tomorrow. I will keep this thread updated with progress Thanks to nobody and Hard911 for sending me parts!

Nik how would we go about getting in an order for this? I pm'ed you but I dont want to keep bothering you.

I wish more people had the knowledge to sell high quality limited edition products like this res or storm before swiftech interfered. It sets the pace for the mainstream products.

I think all wc manufacturers should use G 1/4" threading. It should be some kind of ISO standard! I hate the fact that I can't use DD high flow fittings in my storm! :mad:

Er.... DD HiFlow fittings are 9/16-18UNF, NOT G1/4

DD PerfectSeal fittings are G1/4, and will fit the storm fine with a quick wrap of PTFE. I wish if folks were gonna moan, they'd at least get the facts right about that which they are moaning about...

Yeah, sorry I meant the PerfectSeal, ordered both and mixed up the names.

Have you tried PerfectSeal fittings on the storm? They screw down almost all the way but if you keep turning them down you get delrin shavings from the threads. Shure they would fit but it will ruin the threading.

It would work but I'm just saying it would be better if everyone used the same threading!

Just wondering what the dimensions on this are, trying to figure out where to put it.

Bummmmmp! Just got off the phone with the machinist, the plastic parts are DONE!!!! Plastic meaning the res itself and the plexi glass pieces. Next step is to figure out what you guys that are on my list want in terms of mounting. Do you want the drive bay mount or the square top mount? These will be made later this week and as of yet, I don't have pricing on the mounts. If you are on the list and still want the DelRez, please let me know which mount you want.

I cant really afford the mount, so i was goin to make something myself to match my case.

A few questions if I may...

Are people still able to sign up for these, or were you only doing a limited production run?

And how big is this thing, say, compared to the mounting of an 80mm fan?

Since I saw you mentioned the use of the CNC router, would it be possible to put a dividing wall between the inlet and outlet holes to create a more seperated flow? Nothing too extreme, maybe 1 1/2" high at the most. Doing this, though, would increase your process time, and possibly the cost as well, just a thought.


Say I instal it on the top of my case. How do I fill it, without completely removing it, and putting air into my loop? The top of my case is rather tight, and it would be interesting if something were to happen say at a LAN event, which is what my rig is built for. Would it be possible to put a fill port of some kind in the plexi/lexan?

Yes. Each unit will come with all mounting screws, o-ring, 3 barbs (an extra as it could make filling/bleeding easier with it mounted bay style) and 3 o-ring sealed plugs. Mounting mechanisms of choice are extra, don't know price just yet.

Shouldnt have to, if u dont use a fill port then u can just flip the computer back till the front of the computer is pointing up, remove the plexi cover on the res and fill.

So if i didnt want any of the mounting options does that mean i can get mine sooner? :D

No! That is why I am supplying 3 barbs. When the res is horizontal in the bay mount, if you put a 3rd barb in the TOP of the res, add a small piece of tubing to it and fill away. So you have the inlet and the outlet at the back and a fill barb at the top.
