Also, I think I can mod these Xeons using conductive ink to take the place of having to "u-wire" the Xeon sockets. If this works out like I hope, I should be able to do that to the Xeons I receive before shipping them out so everyone will receive 1.6v Xeons instead of the 1.3v Xeons. (this will only be done for those that want it)

If anyone wants to get a pair of these Xeons for $102.85 shipped... PM me and I'll let you know where to send the money. ;) A postal money order would probably work out the best/cheapest. Or paying via PayPal as long as you can pay with an available balance(and not a credit card). whats a good place to get a cheap mobo for these things if i do consider getting them?

if u wanna be able to oc them u should really go w the asus pc-dl like in jeffs guide zipzoomfly has them for $196. u could also get one on ebay probably for less, and i heard someone say that new egg had one referbished for less. $196 is cheap for a server board seeing as u can spend like 700 bucks on a mb alone when it comes to servers. so id save up n try to get what jeff used.

Just noticed your edit, air mail to the UK for these would run $4.00-$5.00. I'd assume Belgium would be about the same... unless you know it'd be more expensive. The best way to estimate shipping charges to different countries is just to take the package to the post office. ;) I noticed some places are way more expensive than others. :shrug:

Sure, I can hold onto a pair of these Xeons, no problem. I'm not sure about Denmark in particular, but I have shipped a lot of memory and processors to the UK and $4.00-$5.00 is the average cost for such small/light weight items.

Basically for overseas shipping, going to the post office is the best way to estimate postage. I can just collect the money for the Xeons and then charge shipping after I send them... unless shipping is over $10.

PM me if you want payment details for the Xeons. Probably for something like this PayPal would be best, only negative with that is the ~$3.00 in fees they charge for tranferring $100. But in this case it may be worth it for you.

I'm still trying to figure out if i can afford a second machine up and running, i'm having trouble getting the $500 necessary to get it running. My job first begins in Feb. so it'll be close.

WARNING/DISCLAIMER:
This brings up a great point... there are NO guarantees except that these will be D1 stepping cores and they will not be DOA. In my opinion, for $99/pr you are getting a great deal even if they only go to 2.6GHz. And if someone doesn't like the sound of the IWT after they get thier Xeons running... they can always run them at the stock 1.3v and a slower speed. The only time I tried running with 1.3v I hit a stable 2.8GHz. :shrug: But again, your milage may vary.

And if you don't like the chips... you can always sell them for $85-$90/pr on eBay. And used PC-DLs regularly sells for $180 to $200 there too. So you really aren't going to loose much, if anything, trying one of these Xeon setups.

Just to also make clear, these are NOT chips that are in my possesion right now... the guy over at eBay is doing us a favor by selling them to me WITHOUT charging for shipping. He's basically saying "thank you" for mentioning him in the "build a Xeon" thread.

BTW, I doubt that I will test all these chips for top speed/stability. ;) That would take an extra week or two to do for me. :lol:

Not sure yet. I have a pair of those 2.4GHz Xeons on their way for testing. As soon as they arrive I'll put 1.6v to them and see what happens. The only problem I see is getting them to boot at 200MHz FSB since they will have to run at 18x200 for a split second(the PC-DL BIOS puts the multiplier to default before the actual setting kicks in).

Can't wait to try them to be honest. :)

Sounds insane, but it shouldn't be a problem. My 1.6GHz D1s booted no problem at 220FSB with default voltage! Didn't even try higher, for all I know they could've gone to 233FSB.

These D1s don't seem to have nearly as much trouble booting at high speeds as the C1s. :toast:

Ok, Gabriel(the eBay guy) wrote me last night and said that we can order more chips anytime we want. ;) I know there were a couple overseas people who didn't have(or want) PayPal accounts so I'm thinking that we could put another order in in a few weeks time. That should give them enough time to get a postal money order(or cash) to me.

I also know there were a couple people in the US who just couldn't get the money together in time so this would give them a few more weeks to try and scrape together enough.

So... who's interested in us placing another order? This time around I'm not going to be able to float the shipping costs for people so it's going to be $99+$3.85(Priority Mail) for those paying via postal money order. And it wil be $3.50 more for those paying via PayPal(PM me for the exact reason, but I'm sure you can guess why).

So is it still worth it for $106.35? I noticed these chips are regularly getting more than their opening $99 bid now so I still think it's worth it for us. And please remember that this is being done as a favor to us and you should only take advantage of this offer if you are part of XS.org and in particular part of the D2OL team. Gabriel is being Xtremely nice with this offer and I don't want him to think we are taking advantage of him.

16 Xeons total. If all of those are used 24/7 for D2OL then we are looking at an increase of around 2,400 candidates per day. :D So even if all of them aren't... hopefully we will see at least 1,500 candidates more per day. :up:

I have been lurking here for a while now and absorbing as much as possible. I have already gotten my 1.6s and am setting up my system, but alas it will be my everyday system. I thank you all for your vast knowledge that I have hopefully been able to soak up through these forums (and 2cpu forums). Looking forward to the fun of not bogging down while burning a DVD and working with huge photos while reading the forums (perhaps my forum reading will decrease due to the faster PC, dunno).

Hello, LV Dicedealer. I did that myself for a few years, a little over 20 years ago. El Cortez, the Landmark and The Golden Nugget.

When you say "alas, it will be my everyday system" that is good. I hope that doesn't mean you are thinking of not running d2ol with us. d2ol does not get in the way of running everyday stuff, including DVD burning. It is designed to eagerly get out of the way of YOUR use of your system. It is designed as a low priority process, it gracefully bows out of the way at the hint of activity on your part.

Soooo, please consider running d2ol with us, it is an extremely good cause and costs you nothing. The average PC costs $4-$6/month, in electricity, to run, 24/7.

2 months before I can lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. Had fusion surgery on my back but the funny thing is they went through my stomach to get to my disk. So now me and my wife have matching scars.Hers for the c-section and mine for the fusion. And thank you very much for your well wishes. Just got home the other day and am already bored to death.

Damn, that's heavy-duty. Since you will be out of action physically, you'll need to watch out for the Chunky consumption. ;) No way to work it off!

Might be a good time to learn something you always wanted to do, but never got around to. Like coding or HTML or web design, or whatever.

yeah, hope you don't mess up your back again...mmm...a carrar...my plan is try and get a degree with something motherboard related...motherboard design would be nice...not sure tho. Anycomputer type places near you? Work at a place that repairs computers?

Ok, all of the Xeons shipping tomorrow have been tested with their stock voltage of 1.30v(which is really ~1.25v on the PC-DL) to 2.7GHz(208x13) singly and 2.7GHz(169x16) dual cpu. I ran Prime95, SuperPI, PiFast, and a single D2OL client for anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes(when I ate dinner btw ;)). You need to increase Vcore in order to boot at 200MHz when running both cpus at the same time. I tried a couple of the sets with 1.6v and they both booted at 3.0GHz(200x15) without a problem.

These look like winners. :up:

Only down side is two of the cpus had badly bent pins. I did my best to straighten them out but I can't get them to go into the socket smoothly. I'm going to return these two to Gabriel and he's replacing them no questions asked. :) BTW, nobody will have to wait for this since I'll just send a set of my processors and then wait for the replacements. Not a problem.
