Got Me a KD7 Today!!

Well I'm sporting my new system, I picked up a KD7 and for now a XP2200. Looks like the chip maxes with 3D runs at 2316 but this is just the beggining:D I put the XP2200 in the KD7 and I got All the multipliers and then some, even the 17 worked:D
Right now I'm working my way up the fsb trail and sofar running stable at 194, again I'm just starting:D this is with max timings.
One bummer on this mobo is the temp. It shows my system very very high and my cpu is showing very high also:eek: I guess I just ignor it. the bios shows 2 temps for the CPU, one is the Chip diode and it is at 0c so I know the chip is good and cold.

Hi, I just happened to see that you managed a 16.5x multi how did you get that? i know usally when you unlock a 2200+ all you get is 5.5x-12.5x thank you and very nice job there do you have some kind of special cooling or is that just a good chip you have there?:)

As far as the chip at the 16.5 multiplier I did nothing to it:D
It's the new KD7 that works well with the new XP chips, the chips are unlocked from the factory.
I use a Prometeia to cool my chip.

And I'll get back to maxing the chip out later, right now I'm working on the FSB.
The KD7 is now doing 198 rock solid max timngs:D Looking good.

It sounds like the KD7 is reading the internal diode now like the 8K3A does(i think). If so, you should be able to change your MBM settings to read that internal diode. I know on my epox if I set it to read from the thermistor w/ this XP chip in I get crazy temp readings. The diode temp inside the cpu should be one of the "WindbondX Diode" sensors in MBM.

Let us know...I'd like to know myself ;)

Thanks but it isn't the case, My Diode reads 0c in the bios, there are 2 CPU readings. The diode won't measure below 0. I think it's just that the outside sencers are just way off. Probably a good 15c or so, that goes for both the system and CPU.

BTW: 200FSB is 3D proofed, maxed timings, got to go do some more heh, heh:D

OPP, Are you saying your xp2200 came unlocked? I just got one a few days ago from Newegg and had to close 1 bridge to unlock it? Also you are tempting me to buy this board. You said it would top the KX7 and it appears that you were right.:D

Well just have to wait and see on that one, I'm useing a GeForce 3 right now, I can tell you that I'm only 300 points away from what my IT7 did with the G3 at 3622 Mhz.
Fact is if if my radeon runs at these 200 plus FSBs I would think it could do 20k:D Tomorrow I'll hook up the Radeon and let her Fly.

Great work so far OPP:)

My KD7 also arrived today and I can concur with and confrim some of your observations.

First, it certainly does appear that the internal diode is working fine. My "Internal CPU Temperature" hovers around 6c loaded with a 226w TEC. The "CPU Temperature" runs about 6-7 degrres higher than the diode (reading 13c now with the internal at 6c). At idle my internal temp drops to 0 (and not below either), and the regular in socket CPU temp reads 5c.

My system temp is also sky high....runs around 36c.

A few other things I noticed:

There was no themal paste whatsoever under the nb fan...so I added some AS III.

The 5v rail is excellent using the extra ATX2 connector. My 5v rail hasn't dropped under 5.1v loaded, and read 5.21 at idle. Awesome baby:)

Last, the Mem voltage adjustments rock...up to 3.25v. No need for a Vmem mod for me.

Right now she is purring along at 202 FSB:)

The best I did on my system was 11.5x 201FSB for 2316Mhz. I did not have a chance to try running at anything higher. Just make sure you leave fast writes disabled and enhance AGP performance disabled...the latter caused locks and freezes when running 200Mhz FSB.

Thanks OPP...I wasn't thinking as I have never run any board yet that would work with the xp2200..I knew the L1s were connected, I thought the 5th L3 had to be connected also to unlock it as on my KX7. Sounds like a pretty sweet board...I wonder if a good HS and fan would keep my credit card from melting?;)

OPP, is the 2200+ your using the one based on the Tbread A core (ie original) or is it based on the new Tbread core (not even sure if you can get 2200+ on Tbread B??). I thought the 2200+'s were overclocking like shat for most people, which makes 2300Mhz VERY nice :)

Edit: Can you tell me the score you get in 3Dmark with the 2300Mhz 2200+ and GF3?? :)

Just FYI re the workarounds issue...........
Finally have an idea why the older Abit needed the 5th L3 or AJ27 pins "workarounds to boot.
In the Tbred Unlock Update "Deerhunter" thread "Tinkerer" just posted a link to amdmd thread on subject where "Andromeda" posted the following re his examination of the Abit Mobo that needed the workarounds. Andromeda said that the 1st 4 L1s connected to transistors on the mobo thru pullup resistors, but the 5th, last L1 connected to "nothing"...yes nothing!!!!!

Now in and of itself, that's not significant 'cause the 8X Bit Value "HI" signal still goes to the Multiplier module by virtue of the signal circuit on the CPU itself...ie...you don't need help from the bios to run default Multipliers...systems run with open L1s. BUT, BUT, BUT...

IF Abit made no "Hardware" provision to over-ride/reset the 5th 8X BV, THEN also it's quite reasonable to assume they made no "Software" provision for the 5th 8X BV....read " Can't cope with 13X or higher Multipliers which have the 8X BV set HI"...and that lack of sofware could relate to some vital process in the post/boot operation....Bingo?????

Andromeda said he connected a 5V pullup resistor to the AJ27 pin (8X BV, 5th L3) but that it didn't work. But that "optional" HI from mobo thru closed L1 is not needed, the CPU itself sets the 8X BV HI with its own signal circuit. What's needed is abilty to reset the 8X BV LO...AND...more important, have the
mobo/bios/?Northbridge? recognize the 8X BV during post/boot however and when ever required. You might relay this info to Andromeda. Thanks.

These later 2200+'s(mines a week 33 AIRGA) overclock very well when excellent cooling is provided. I've been benching mine in 3Dmark at 2300Mhz for a few weeks now....and as far as top overclocks go with a 2200...hows this:D

Im really starting to regret getting another KX7 instead of the KD7-R :P

Oh and btw no AGP tearing at 206? My previous KX7 got tearing at 195 mhz fsb...

Now I feel like I need a whole new setup even tho this one is only 3 weeks old.. congrat's on your sucsess with you Kd7 I wanted one but I needed raid. is your the raid version??

Do you mean AT7 II ?? If so I believe it will be very simular to this one, the KD7.

Yea I have Raid, got to:D 2 x IBM 120GXPs

Just started testing the Radeon and it works flawless doing 200 FSB :D In 8x mode I might add. Gunna do some more FSB then go to a Higher overclock and see what I get. This OS is old and it is accually from my IT7 so after I use it to the best of it's ability I'll do a clean Install for my max 3D score.

Abit has officially removed the 1/6th divider from the bios because the KT-400 chipset DOES NOT support it. You will not find ANY KT-400 chipset board with a 1/6th divider...a major mistake by VIA IMHO.

Well well, does anybody know anybody that is running a radeon in 8x mode that has it overclocked??
I can not get this card to overclock at all, there is no way in the bios to turn off the 8x either, I wish I could check so I would know if the card dyed or the 8x is holding it back. So much for this:D

Just to let anybody know, my problem has nothing to do with 8x. I had my voltage on the radeon set at only 1.78v, this is were it was when the card did 508mhz. I guess it is to high, I unhooked the v-mod and it now it's starting to overclock, I'm at 450 with no mod:D Very strange, might be that fine new PSU giveing it some juice or somthing:D Got to go and play with her and see if I can get her back up to the 500s.

Ok, I have been meaing to ask this for a while. Would it be possible to juice up the 9700 w/ like 17v, instead of the 12v that it gets from the back plug? (Or 12v if it's 5v, I dunno what it is, dunno anything about that blasted card really).

Also, what about juicing up the voltage of the agp slot itself. 8x agp is .8v right? Couldn't you increase that. Would it increase stability?

Just a thought. Opp, would you say that thus far, the KD7 is a good buy?

My Enermax 550w.... Has 4.8/11.8 on the 5/12 volt.... Woefully low....

How's the stablility?.... Do the Voltages remain constant, or do the move around a lot?

Any hint's if this is what I should get OPP?

I've Also just got my New KD-7.... Everyone put it down when I posted that I had one on order, But I guess they've quieted down now that we see what OPP has done...

I'm going to pick up another XP 2200 to play with the board.... You always get a killer deal on the current chip right right before the new one is released..... You Say AIRGA.... I'm going to another Show in Parsippany, NJ tomorrow, I'll if I can grab one..... They're going for like $150! At least on the Internet.... Maybe I should do a major overhaul and get that new PSU... From Directron like the Dude suggests... that 11.8 and 4.8 is hurting me, Ya' Think?

Sorry I don't know how I missed your post above. YES by all means give the TTGI520w a try.Mine is the non es model and has adjustable pot for +5 and +12. As a matter of fact, I just ordered another one a few minutes ago. It occurred to me that after OPP does his review, they might be hard to come by or more money...so I got mine now! I have noticed very slight fluctuations at high OC and a slight turn of the pot puts you right on the dime. Got both of mine at Directron.com :D

KD7 and XP2200 doing 203x11.5 2333 Mhz. Radeon at stock speed. I can tell you that this is only 1000 points away from my IT7 at stock Radeon clock when I hit 20400. If I can get my card to run the same as it did 508/360 I could get at least a 19000 score out of it.

very nice there OPP!!! Imagine if the 2400+ or higher overclock as well as the reviews with your cooling you might see 2700mhz or so assuming from what hardocp did with there's and a sk-6+ and 2400+.. what scores would come from that?? 20k+?? keep us update so we can drool :)

Just a couple of thoughts on the Radeon with the AMD system. I'm not sure how you're clocking is going...but the higher AGP bus speed on the KD7 vs. your Intel setup may contribute to your not clocking the card as high. I could do 484Mhz no sweat..but I had the same problem in needing to reduce the Vgpu voltage. More voltage seemed to hinder the overclock..including visual line corruption on the display. Just a thought my man...keep us abreast of your progress:)

I changed the pelt put in a 220, but no help, I was thinking that the AGP voltage from the KD7 was to high at 1.54, I just couldn't figuer it out.
Well I'm back to 500mhz on the card thanks to you My friend testing it at 150 FSB using 1.78 volts on the card again.:)

Now I have to see how High I can go with my FSB before it starts to screw with the Radeon Clock:D

Do you guys see why we needed the 1/6th divider now?? Especially with the 9700. Top AMD scores = 200Mhz= FSB plus OPPs 500Mhz GPU clock. Without the 1/6th its going to be difficult...best scores are done at highest bandwidth via the motherboard.....so there will be a fine line of finding a decent FSB and being able to clock the card. Good luck my friend...I know you can pull it off:)

I'm getting no where with 3D mark, I can't even hit the front page. 18300 I think, and it was done at 203 fsb without v-mod hooked to the card. Card was doing about 450:rolleyes:
Yeap other then that I can do about 500 when useing 194 FSB but I'm getting worse scores:D AMD has a way to go to beat these Intels doing 3600Mhz :D

On the other hand, the board is good, I like it. A couple of big problems though. I run this chip at 1.98 volts at 2320 stable with 202 FSB, the problem is the heat of the Caps on this mobo. Now I know were the temp readings must be coming from, and they are an under statment:D There is an area above the AGP slot that has about 4 mosfets 4 Caps and some of those donut coil thingys, this area could cook your eggs for you at breakfast, you could burn your finger on it. I would think that after a while somthing while fry.

Great Overclocker but bad for 3DMark if you run a v-mod on the card. I swear I can smell this sucker burning:D I ran it all night Folding and it didn't catch on fire so I gues the sucker will survive another day.

If the Radeon 9700 card won't overclock, why not go back to the GF4 Ti4600 card you use to do 3d mark scores with ? It was a good card and with the det. 40.41 and a good overclock maybe you could get a better 3d mark score then the one you got with the Radeon 9700 OPP ! What do you think ? :)

Yea the card will overclock and even run at high FSB the problem is that you can not go with higher GPU voltage at these high FSBs.
The GeForce would be fun to try though.

just got in from work and read this thread with interest ..... looks like it will be a while longer b4 i go back to amd benching although they are in my 2 main rigs ......... great work OPP and nice overclocks sounds like its a good board but not quite good enough to smack intel at the moment

I took off the Fan to mount a Crystal Orb On mine, and found there wasn't even any thermal Compound, It was Dry!

Hi guys, nice to finally register, you guys ARE the Xtreme!! Anyway nice to be among you.

Many of you may know but the Nforce2 will let you adjust everything indepandantly if implemented. Fsb-Mem-pci/agp all adjusted independantly.

Personally I would like to see this 233 fsb (4.2 gb bandwidth roughly) leave memory at 133 with most agressive timings (will have some 6 gb of bandwidth no need to increase speed unless using onboard graphics) and run pci/agp 33/66.

This should be the Dream Board......... er.... if they ever get the kinks out of her :)

I had compound on my at7M2, but the little crappy sink was hanging off by only one connector. Not much on the early quality control huh?

See my post in the KD7 AirCooled Goodness thread... wondering if this increase in temp for the system sensor is due to the same issue I've experienced with dead boards... whilst the board is running ok, has anyone checked the southbridge temp? ie: is it touchable?? If the southbridge runs hot which I have a feeling it does, then this could be the cause. I know on the blown board I have, the entire area around the southbridge gets hot, including front and back surfaces of the board... not had a working one up n running to find out for meself yet...

I can plug it in or leave it unplugged, it doesn't do anything as far as stability. Well it does strengthen the 12v readings when plugged in, I guess this could help with stability:D

The issues with heat on this mobo is from a area just under the cpu socket, a group of caps and mosfets are getting toasty, both the northbridge and the southbridge are fine. This hot area is so warm it accually heats up my Prometeia Evaporater block which is just above it.

Well it all depends on how long. When I first built it I had no guage to how well it might work. But now after a couple months I pretty much have it all figured out.

Its a small fridge $150 like in a wetbar ( http://www.sears.com/data/product_im...441000-dlv.jpg ),the compressor only holds 3 oz of r134a. I have 5 gallons of rvcoolant(good till -50C cheap too) And currently only water cooling the cpu. I have my vidcard and chipset cooler, will put on later will keep inside temps down alot better aswell by doing so.

But again time. It will run at about 5-10c on the cpu for the first couple hours, then 14c for a few more hours, but after like 8 hrs the cpu is at like 20c. Basicly the thing doesnt have long term compacity. After 8 hrs the inside get warm aswell(vidcard gets warm ect.)

But again my next will be a large fridge freeze combo, and Ill beef up the refridgerant aspect a bit and have a real long trem cool completely quiet solution. Luckily I only use my computer 5 hrs a night, so I never see high temps.

This is on a xp1600@1900 2.0

With a bigger fridge I expect 5c all the time, and still be able to attach a pelt and go alot farther. The nice thing about having your board in a fridge you dont have to do ANY condensation preparations at all. My water block and board are just like a regualar case, no goop foam nothing. And thats another reason I took this route. Very easy to set up, cost around $200

For your situation, I have a quick thought.

I thought of making a chest freezer case, only after I built the fridge. But you can get a Chest freezer for $200 and a desktop case . Now put your coolant resivor on the bottom attach the mobo to the inside lid of the chest freezer, attach the desktop case to the lid and house drives/power supply and only have to drill 1 hole for a short run of cables to the mobo.

Should cool very nicely if you bought a bigger one $400.

However I think your prolly running phase change, so you could again leave the case out, but if possible modify the hoses to the cpu adapter, and run through the lid of the chest freezer. And everything else the same. Run a resivor of coolant for chipset/vidcard and the mobo would live in a freezing envirement , thus cooling all power components, allowing for max overclock. Also Probably get better cpu temps to boot.

just a thought.... Every component would be at or below freezing. Something to think about.............
