Well he was correct, 5Ghz vishera is faster than stock 4770K in C11.5 (and C11.5 is one of those few benchmarks that does show bigger jump from IB than the norm). Also 8350 is 70% cheaper .Just saying :)
8.6 I got...Not bad, but the Cinebench is not the best for FX-8350. I heard, there are some optimalization in new Cinema for FX CPUs :). I think that there are too many people that got hopes way too high. 10 years ago, people used to call things like this "Emergency Edition". And that one was better, you were at least getting a Xeon MP die with the extra Cache L3. The GeForce Titan did the same thing, giving you access to a downgraded Server part aimed for Desktop. This one, assuming it is true, is instead just a mere factory overclocked, overpriced Vishera. For the price, you may as well purchase a good water cooling kit, the cheapest 83xx Vishera, and get it to 5 GHz by yourself...

It's semi-official, there will be a "high-TDP" FX models presented soon, gigabyte lists it as 5Ghz AMD FX lol

Jaguar is 20% faster than Bobcat in Single Thread ,so ST at least should be 10% higher than Vishera in C11.5 (8.52*10% = 9.372 Close to 3770).if we want to match 4770 (10.51) , ST should be 23% faster than Vishera which i think it's impossible to happen.
Stock 4770K gets 8.14pts in C11.5. Stock 8350 gets 6.92pts. Stock 5Ghz Vishera (with high TDP of 220W :D) should score 1.2x6.92=8.3pts in C11.5.

There simply are no motherboards which could provide such amount of power, either.
I'll throw you some of the official numbers, these are the electrical requirements specified by AMD:
AM3r2 - Infra A = 125W TDP (FR, e.g. FX-8350)
IDD TDC: 110A (Thermal design current, the maximum amount of current the VRM must be able to provide constantly).
IDDSpike (Max): 145A (The maximum amount of current the VRM must be able to provide for periods shorter than 10ms).
TDC-Spike delta = 35A (31.81%).
The 140W TDP envelope which existed for 45nm parts has the same current limitations as 125W TDP envelope as the Core VDD was higher on 45nm parts.
A 220W TDP part would have IDD TDC value of ~ 194A and IDD-Spike value of ~ 255A.
There are 170 Core VDD supply pins on AM3r2 package, each with 0.325mm diameter.
While the cross-section being 0.0829 square mm, the maximum amount of current transferable is around 255A ;)
Besides, a 32nm chip which requires 220W will never hit 4.8GHz, let alone 5.0GHz.
The rare parts which are able to do it draw <180W at those clocks.
Stilt are you saying the above image by Gigabyte is a mistake (done by GB) or that the official leaked TDP is overstated and will be less than 180W?

It is extremely difficult to make the VRM which can constantly provide 200W+.
Even with the best available components (IRF PowerIRStage, TI PowerBlock) the real world efficiency is <85%.
With a 220W TDP CPU the VRM would dissipate 38.82W of power at 85% VRM efficiency.
It would require a large heatsink with a fan(s) on it.
Of course there must be a hefty "safety margin" too in case the user decides to overclock the CPU even further.
95% of AM3r2 motherboards would burn like a torch if you throw in a 200W+ TDP CPU and there wouldn't be any thermal / OCP protections.
C5F-Z can provide up to 200W, however the VRM heatsink will require some HEAVY airflow to keep the VRM within operational temperatures (<130 celsius). The VRM itself can provide over 400W of power (I've tried) however in this scenario the VRM temperature is well under zero (LN2).
Personally I would rather see a 125W rated part operating at 4.4GHz base (without Turbo).
Makes much more sense and would be available for more people.
This will be maybe only limited edtion of 1000 pieces or somethig...Hope, we will see later after E3. Now are these all info speculations.

I think Stilt has a good point. There are very high requirements for cooling such a chip and if it's true AMD readies those 2 models we all want to know how all of that is going to work without something burning up. It's true it's targeted at enthusiasts and all, but still the requirements are there and it only takes one uninformed customer to burn something up and create a **** storm in some forum.
Many people won't care about TDP tho, they just want 5Ghz Vishera out of the box without doing a thing in BIOS, which is understandable. They would hit this TDP by manual OCing anyway, AMD just provides cherry picked parts that can function without errors (in linpack?occt?) if properly cooled.

4ghz 8 core for 300$ and ready to drop it a bit should intel do the same. Aim that at the gaming crowd it SHOULD do well ..... but AMD has lost a lot of street cred over the last 5 years its gonna take time to repair and some really good chips.

its not easy get really stable 5 GHz at FX-8350 with decent cooling. Now you will have better than average chip, so it help you in OC. As informal said, its for enthusiast. Not only Intel guys are enthusiast (3970x or dual xeons etc) but also at AMD side exists.

The 220w figure may be the total power consumption not the actual TDP. Since people are already running 4.8 GHz. FX-8350's without overheating using highend AIR cooling, there really should not be a big issue with these CPUs. I'm guessing that AMD might pair these up with an H2O cooler as they have done with some highend CPUs in the past. H20 cooling might not be necessary but at least it might be an option.

In my experience at least, I was unable to keep an 8150 cool with a Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme which is a really capable HSF The H100 I had on my bench could do it. Fortunately, the 8350 fares a bit better, but I still have to imagine water will be more or less required.

The sheet is for Rev 3.0 990FXA-UD7 which has some changes to the VRM.

There are really no "actual" changes in Richland in silicon level.
Hybrid Boost and cTDP are just basically software features and the changes to the memory controller are just different kind of calibration.
Althought, Richland should be based on newer node version than the Trinity parts currently available in retail.
Still Richland is a good mid-life update to Trinity.
cTDP especially is a very nice feature for low power desktop and mobile purposes.
Also the fact that Richland officially supports 8-banks (four double sided DRAM modules) at DDR-1866 is a nice feature too.
The memory controller has been calibrated for high load rather than high clock on Richland.

Where are the list of compatible motherboards ? I do not believe that so many of the actual 990FX boards support 220W.
1200W power supply as minimum requirement is outrageous. At least could mention it for 9590/7990 combo but not for a single 7970 card.
The 220w is probably total power not TDP. It's really not an issue at all. People already run FX-8350's on high end AM3+ mobos with good VRM circuit @ 4.8+ GHz. @ ~1.5v so these CPUs are just the golden ones now being produced now that GloFo has perfected their produciton. Expect future AMD APU/CPUs to have high clockspeeds in addition to many other performance enhancements.
