gtx580 bios mod?

I need to mod the BIOS on my gtx580. Some guy said he was able to read the BIOS using nibitor 5.8. When I tried I get an "unknown ID" error message and that's as far as I get. Is there a way to mod the BIOS on a gtx580? All I want to do is change the 40% fan speed restriction.

Currently fan speed lower limit is 40%. Please make that as low as possible, 0% would be ideal. Upper limit on voltage would be 1.2v. Thanks.

It should already go to 1.138v....just use afterburner beta 4 to overvolt.

Does the ASUS bios allow 30% lower limit on fan as we had with the gtx480, or is it still limited to 40%? All I want is to lower the fan speed limit, but I haven't found a way to mod the bios.

Not many experiments to test , so do not try . I am not sure .
But after edit Hex , the Fermi BIOS Editor can show the fan speed change to 100% and minimum change to 30% :D

Yes??? Asus 580 bios does not go above 1.213 (modded), does it? I thought hard mod was the only option to go above limit imposed.

The million dollar question. From what I've read, it can't be done through BIOS or software apps. I don't remember what the right technical term is, but it's hard coded in the card. Right this moment, that is. Hopefully I'm wrong and someone will figure out a hack. I don't think I'll be learning how to solder anytime soon....so I may have to wait it out.

You have a clue Vern? Great! We are running into dead ends. We (teammates) are trying all types of vendor modified BIOS and software apps with little success. 1.213v is the limit right now. We have one confirmed case of 1.3v with a multimeter, but we're not able to re-create that on other cards (ATM, I'm not going to say anymore on that). What kind of clue vern? If you don't want to say, you can pm me and we'll test it for you.

Is it maybe possible upload those mod bioses on internet so everyone dont have to ask u mod their bioses? ;) I have Msi brand card and would love to get that mod bios too :) Would do it myself if ihad lilbit more experiense with bios modding, have to starts learning that too :D

I used Neo hex editor to compare a stock 580 BIOS to a stock BIOS with only the voltage 'turned up' with NiBiTor to 1.213v to try and see what exactly changes. There are 24 hex entries changed with that change alone. To make matters worse, I don't know enough about hex to even know what I'm looking at. I'm just trying to learn more about it. Am I completely off track with this method of trying to understand the VGA BIOS?

I have noticed that flashing the bios from a higher Vid card to a lower Vid card will raise the Vid to the higher value, as displayed by NVInspector and MSI Afterburner.
Is this value not fixed anymore ?

Hi everyone

Ive just bought Gainward 285gtx.

I cant oc more than approximately 5 , when using Gainward Expertool. It simpy lock up, or stop working. Temps are never above 80 c. My airflow is very efficient.

Should I provide more power for the gpu to get a stable oc?

Im thinking of editing the bios with nvflash.

weird problem with gtx 580 after bios flash

Hello everyone,

I have a weird problem with my POV GTX 580 Charged Edition.

My system:

i7 920 @ 4,4 Ghz
EVGA Classified E762

When I flash a modded bios to get max voltages I will get a black screen (no video signal) after the next restart of the pc. When I reflash the original bios, everything works fine again. I've heard of some other guys having the same problem with their GTX 580's. I was ready to return the card and pick up another one to check if the bios flash would work on another card and then I got the idea to flash the card in my old pc (Q6600 + Asus Maximus Formula with X38 Chipset). Now to the weird part, when I flashed the card in the old pc, I had a video signal after the next reboot. I thought great, maybe there is some sort of problem with X58 boards when flashing GTX 580's. So I put the card back in into my new machine and now I have a black screen again. I've been flashing my gfx cards for 7 years now, but I have never encountered such a weird problem.

Do you guys have any suggestions why the flashed card works in the old pc, but not in the new one? Btw, it's not a problem with my new machine, I had a bios modded GTX 480 working in it before I switched to the GTX 580.

I hope you guys can help me out, thanks a lot in advance, any help is appreciated.

I have an MSI 580 and an EVGA 580. Can both of these cards receive a modified BIOS? If so, which one do I need? I'd like to be able to push them towards the 1000 mHz mark since they're both water cooled. Do they each need their original BIOS modified to unlock voltage or can I flash them both with say for example, the unlocked ASUS bios?

i dont know what the bios started out as....becasue i downloaded it from the net so.....no idea...works fine though, im on water so dunno how goos the fan profiles are for stock or air coolers

Thank you very much! The bios is working awesome on my MSI. Just installed an Accelero Xtreme PLUS onto my 580 and needed some more power, and as a bonus the fan speed is unlocked to 100% as well!

Also, for anyone interested in the Accelero Xtreme PLUS, very easy installation, and GREAT performance so far. Looping Heaven is showing a drop in temps of about ~10-15*C @ 85% fan speed. Checking again with 100%.

Edit: 100% shows a maximum temp of 61*C. Total drop of 15*C over the stock cooler @ 85% speed (max default), and ~20-25*C over auto fan. Considering it's also 100% silent in my case, I think it's worth the upgrade!

(well, I really would have liked to have put the whole system under water, but too many things came up at one preventing me from doing so)

How does this compare to Shamino's cold slow bios?

Yep, unlocks voltage to 1.213, and fan to 100%... Not sure how it compares to other BIOS's.
