nVidia Quadro 258.96 modified driver for GeForce cards

Title says it all guys. I've modified the Quadro 258.96 driverset to work with GeForce 6/7/8/9 series and Fermi cards. I'll be beginning the upload of these drivers in a few minutes so check back in half hour or so for the download link.

I don't think theres much need to explain why I have modified the Quadro 258.96 drivers, but for those who really don't know, its to get the absolute best image quality. IMO standard GeForce drivers for the most part have always been pants in this regard.

Drivers are passworded as these are XS member exclusive. So drop a PM to me for the password and of course post here with how performance and image quality are for you compared to normal Forceware drivers. :up:

*drivers are universal and will work with pretty much ALL nVidia graphics solutions. Password: hex_13_system77

It should be noted these driver packages do NOT include the PhysX software, so be sure to grab it from nVidias website.

Based on peoples feedback here is a summary of the 259.12 Quadro mod drivers vs. Forceware equivillents.

- Better IQ
- Game profiles don't mysteriously vanish
- No BSODs or lockups
- No random CTDs

nothing for the 200 series cards? i have like 10 of these cards, but no fermi or 8/9 series

No need for that, the drivers the Quadro series use are the same as what GeForce use. The only difference is the Quadro drivers are geared toward absolute best image quality, and they go through a more stringent quality control system. Can you imagine studios like Pixar complaining to nVidia about crap drivers? Don't think so :p:

All I've done is changed some (well ok, a LOT) of driver ID strings so the Quadro drivers work with GeForce cards :up:

Ok i've got a problem, i tried to open a game and it minimised the game and opened the monitor settings on win 7 and keeps doing that if i click on the game again

I'm running Vantage right now with no problems. The minimum FPS in the first GPU test is 2FPS higher with image quality settings in the nV CP set to "High Quality". Thats 2FPS better than what the Forceware 258.96 drivers managed with the image quality settings on "Quality". GPU score also went up from 15180 to 15481 :up:

installed the drivers, i'm running one gtx295. i instantly get an error on one of my crunching work units, but the other one is fine (gtx295 has 2 GPU's on it). then when i look in the device manager, weird thing is that one of the device ID looks fine, and the other one is gibberish. they're the same exact GPU's on the same card too! not sure why one is valid and other one isn't :(

Hmm.. not sure where the gibberish is coming from. Just checked my GTX 460. It WAS listed as a GTX 460, now its device ID is its name. I'll sniff around a bit. Right now I don't think its causing any problems I've just run Vantage and Unigine Heaven without any issues.

Sorry to treat you like a n00b but this is so I know nothing is conflicting :p:

1. uninstall nv drivers
2. reboot to safe mode
3. run driver sweeper 2.1
4. check c:\ program files for any nv files and delete them
5. click start and go to run>regedit>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE delete any nvidia strings.
6. restart and install the fixed package I'll upload :up:

Remember this driver package doesnt include the PhysX software so you need to download that from nVidia.

The good news is that it works without problems and the performance is exactly the same as with the GeForce driver. :up:

The bad news is that it doesn't recognise what graphics card I'm using like some of the other guys. :confused:

Fixed that and uploading new package, same password ;)

GL. I've only added some device IDs so some cards get recognised properly in device manager. I don't think a naming tag issue would cause what you described.

If you give me the device IDs and compatible device IDs from your cards I'll see if I can customise a file for you.

There is a regular version 258.96 for GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, 200, 300 & 400 series.
Also, there is 259.09 version already out.

Are you blind? Read the first post :rolleyes: I know there are 259.09 as well, but not for Quadros.

I have a GTX260 216SP, is it properly supported? Even though it is mentioned elsewhere on page one, your first post excludes the 200 series and someone had issues with the 295.

when i get back home im going to try again, seeing as i couldn't find the right display last night because it has always defaulted to my physx card and windows is useless at setting display settings

200 series issues should be sorted. With the first package I just forgot to add some name ID tags, nothing which should of caused any problems.

Can these in any way positively affect GPUGrid performance? I game for only a few hours per month, greater image quality would be nice but if these are better at GPUGrid I'll give you +1000 interwebz :D

I don't know about that, although scores in benchmarks I ran did go up a healthy sum. GeForce 258.96 drivers had a GPU score in Vantage of 15180, Quadro 258.96 drivers have a GPU score of 15481 :up: Tests like Unigine heaven the score remained unchanged. You also have PM :D

I am using the older Quadro 258.49 fixed by Guru3D on my GTX470 and it folds great.

No, I'm not blind, I can clearly see the extent of your knowledge. ;)
Those are the same drivers with different default settings, so if you adjust them the same - they will work the same.
If you don't believe me, try for yourself.
You can always compare driver's core components and you'll see it's the same thing. Then compare them to 259.09 to see what I mean.

Good question Oj101, and the answer was already posted by Alien Grey.

The drivers are essentially the same, but have gone under more rigorous bug testing and are coded for the upmost performance and image quality. Thus, the drivers themselves are better quality than standard GeForce drivers, which have one or the other prioritised. Quadro drivers have to have the upmost quality given Quadro cards are only really used by CGI studios, so HAVE to be totally bug free.

I absolutely agree. It means that regular GeForce 258.96 are also of very good quality, as core components are the same to the last byte.
Anyway, keep modding, as I appreciate the effort of course. :up: I just thought you are making to much effort, when there are already newer drivers and they seem better, but it's just IMO.

it gave me tons of errors on the WU's, but i'm not sure if it was the drivers or my overclocks. i installed the old original drivers back, but i may give this a shot again to see if it has any improvements on gpugrid

I have no idea what it activates if you select quality but I know that the image quality is a lot better.

I've tried to do something similar a while a go to have better image quality with the standard Geforce drivers but I never had such good quality or I perhaps it's just me who doesn't know what to enable or disable.

No, it will not enable anything professional on consumer-binned GPUs.

But if you use any software which just checks name of GPU present in system (not actually trying to verify support of pro features) - it can be fooled to enable some eye-candy stuff. I'm using "modded" in such way 259.09 driver, changed name of card from GTX 480 to Quadro 5000, so my solidworks 2010 now allow me to enable RealView with all teh effects :). But in 3D-moddelling soft, like 3dsmax,maya etc you will gain nothing, coz consumer gpu locked for needed features.

Jeez I explained this a crapload of times already in the thread.. I'll say it once more, but other than that, please, don't make posts without knowing all the details.

Quadro driversets while being essentially the same as GeForce (latest Quadro and GeForce are both Fermi architecture) the Quadro variant have gone through stricter quality control, bug testing, and have been geared for absolute best image quality. Changing device IDs simply lets the drivers work on GeForce cards instead of Quadros. Theres a reason why nVidia have seperate Quadro and GeForce drivers, thats because of what I already highlighted. Quadro drivers are not intended for gaming, but they work fine as such. Quadro and GeForce would be merged as one driver if they were one and the same. Quadro device IDs would just be added to the standard GeForce driver list of ID strings :rolleyes:

For anyone that STILL didn't get that;

GeForce:

- Gaming driver
- Less strict quality control (read: more bugs)
- Poorer image quality
- Driver releases alternate optimised for performance or image quality, not both.

Quadro:

- Corporate / Professional level driver
- Strict quality control (read: fewer bugs)
- Absolute best image quality
- Driver has equal attention paid to performance and image quality

Finally.. the absolute last time I'll say it, I've just changed device IDs to allow GeForce cards to work with Quadro drivers.

ok back to ebay hunting for a decent firepro or quadro card :(

with the hd2900 it was very easy to mod it to a firepro but by now amd switched to hardwarelocks and nvidia cards weren't modable at all...

Something people might want to try. Users of standard GeForce drivers complain of black distant textures in Assassins Creed 2. Try these Quadro modded drivers with that game. I'm curious to know if that black textures bug is magically fixed with a Quadro driver.

I'm not against using "quadro" drivers on geforce.
The only question, why to invent some passwords or such for inf-modified drivers? Whats the point? :)
I could add password for that SLI hack too, but that could only render less people try it, and less people get gains from it.

I'm just think, that there is no any quality improvment vs usual geforce drivers, with both stock same settings for both drivers.
I'm not gamer, but kinda interested in 3D scene since Riva 128 cards. And all quadros at that time was literally same till GeForce3 / Quadro DCC.

As I said in first post, XS exclusive. I want feedback from people I know to a large degree aren't going to mistake something thats not a bug, as a bug. For the large part I just done these drivers cos I was bored and I'm interested to see users notes going from Geforce to the Quadro mod drivers. Clearly there are differences, as some have already remarked on how much better image quality is and its coming from users who have used GeForce drivers for a long time.

I would like to see that difference examples, coz engine of both driver version is same :)

hmmm i wouldnt say absolutely best image quality though...
ive seen both ati and nvidia tweak for performance by lowering iq, yes, for professional cards...

I have one of the lowest volted cards Ive seen yet at stock with a .887.... I can run 750 @ .907

Im a fanatic about making sure my driver installs are spotless.

Just download quadro driver from NV and ask Ket to give you inf file (few kb of size). :)

just played a bit of Crysis and the textures look a lot better (understatement btw), and I think the lighting looks a bit better, not sure about that though

on the downside, with POM off it is painfully obvious and can look quite horrible when you are close, also fps can dip hugely if a helicopter is chasing you

would these drivers have an impact on encoding with a program such as mediacoder or badaboom?

Yep thats more or less right. Theres a lot of n00bs out there who won't even understand how to properly uninstall their current driver nevermind boot so safe mode and use driversweeper. I can't be arsed with a bunch of n00bs whining how do they do this an that.

Damn that looks real nice. Pretty sure it looks better than on ATi cards. Can't remember the last time I could say that when standard Forceware drivers were used. Seems like these Quadro drivers are indeed doing a better job. Somebody needs to get before and after screenshots though :p:

Nvidia Quadro 259.12 WHQL already out today.

You can DL those drivers, extract them and just replace the NV_DISP file with the one from the package I uploaded ;)

well,finally had the time to get them installed. I dont have any before and after screenshots as I only do 2 different simulations, ( one being Iracing, and the other being Secondlife ) so for me its not about benchmarks but rather IQ, stability, and performance in those two sims.

personally, I did find them to be better as far as color brilliance** performance was roughly the same as the whql reg drivers.
I think the quality is better overall....stability so far as been solid, before with the previous 2 whql drivers ive had crashing with second life as a constant battle, and so far not a single crash.

for me they are keepers...thanx Ket*

NP :up: I'm going to sniff around the Quadro 259s, see if anything is worth switching to those for.

The drivers work for pretty much all cards, including all Fermi cards.

I can't tell much as I'm just on the laptop atm, but IMO the Quadro drivers seem to have more realistic colours and the sunlight on the water looks better. Anyway, as people seem to have much better stability with these Quadro drivers vs. Forceware I'm editing the latest 259.12 Quadro drivers now. Heres whats new in the Quadro 259.12s;

Modded Quadro drivers are up guys. Check first post for DL link, PW is the same ;)

EDIT: Looking at those screenshots now I'm on my PC I can deffinately see a difference. Check out the dirt to the left in both screenshots. The Quadro drivers are rendering colours much better, and distant textures aren't as blurry vs. Forceware. Overall I'd say for the cost of all of 1FPS the improved image is well worth it :up:

Hey Ket can you also modify the 32 bit driver.
The NV_DISP file will be enough, because this file from the 64 bit driver isn't compatible with the 32 bit one.

I'll get on it later tonight. By pure accident I've had a breakthrough with my GTX460 problems so I'm just tweaking things up atm :up:

Difficult to see some differences, with high-res shots maybe ?

Framerate is good ?
Graphics seems better Gaul ?

With high res shots probably the easiest thing to notice is smoke / fog. The Quadro driver will render it more accurately, at a small cost to FPS.
