Wow very nice!

You got guts, When I booted into windows at 500 FSB and looked at easytune and saw what the voltages they set me at I was too uncomfortable to keep using auto. Those are some very nice clocks though! Maybe I will have a few shots later tonight and then go for it LOL

Awesome effort there. Watch those auto volts they can crank it up as you can see the CPU VID:1.25 but CPU-z shows 1.408v. Have a look in EasyTune6 to what the rest of the volts are doing. Manual control is a bit better so you now where everything is.

I must point out that setting the bios options to "Auto" in bios does NOT set the voltages to standard settings, Auto will INCREASE the voltages...sometimes by a very large margin and dangerous levels. MCH and CPU PLL voltages WILL be raised, this can be tested and verified by Everest and other programs. The only way to ensure standard/default voltages is to set ALL voltages options to "Normal" or set items manually. I'm an EP45-DQ6 user with F12 bios and this board uses very similiar bios.

i agree ,never use auto when you are going to overclocking the system, not for 24/7.
anyway mine needs some serious voltage to ran 600+

well ,the board is dead ,I figure something fried and one of the mosfet is toast.
All i know is that when I was runnin the prime95 at 4500MHz(10x450) @ 1,35v (PLL,vMCH,Termination @ minimum)and the systems crashed ,not booting after shutdown .
the E8600 is dead also .....

YA DOOD gigabyte auto settings are notorious for pumping volts! I had the same thing back with me X48T-DQ6, first few minutes on a 45nm quad i was wondering why i was idling at 50*C then I saw the board was pushing 1.55 vcore...

EDIT: I've noticed a very high frequency sound that seems to start when i start any kind of stability test. It's almost inaudible and very quiet and i'm not sure whether i'm going crazy, whether it's some fan barely grazing something, or whether it might be a bad vreg. wondering if anyone else heard something like this.
I'm totally stable on reasonably low volts (1.275 vcore, 1.3 pll, 1.5vttt, 1.3vnb). i just don't wanna blow a fet...

yea, have had it booting with vcore @ 1.56 an mch 1.82 to get 4.8 @ 535 fsb but i know it can go higher but i haven't found the key, maybe water. But i have been pushing hard with air,i was hoping to break the magic 5G

It seems to like 503, it just locks in and rocks, 1.46v, so i might try to ratchet that down

Have u tried EasyTune6? Damn Im loving that app for volts and clocks on the fly, can crash SuperPI and then tweak again without a BIOS revisit. It beats SetFSB imho.

i've tested every conceivable GIgabyte that came out and never had an issue.....this was unique to my Giga experience....not very pleasant but oh well

btw at stock settings GB boards have stock volts...it is only when you start overclocking with auto volts which is not a great idea on any board is that you see high volt jumps to compensate for OCs...this is definitely not GB exclusive and i've tested Asus boards which also scale in volts crazy just from FSB OCs and auto volts

Yea...I hear the same thing under heavy load (stock volts right now to) and it seems to be coming from around the top vreg heatsink...right about where PcCI2iminal lost his mosfet :(

Well if you can see a reference voltage next to anything manually set it to that so then if you up your FSB they should remain locked if you want to be on the safe side.

What the hell mobo & CPU blown up?....could understand the mobo burning out, but the CPU getting killed as well???...MOSFET even melted the soilder contacts, must have got REALLY hot.

I was opening a new tab to newegg after reading first half of thread. I've since closed it without ordering. i'll wait for a few. Sorry for your loss guys. Who had the 3rd e8600 die? PcCI2 (1) , dinos (2) and ?. My EVGA 680i's all had that high pitched noise while stressing. Annoying!!

Alright thanks Im glad I asked. My CPU PLL was at 1.8v, its probably been like that all day and thats something I would have overlooked for a long time had it not been for easytune. Now its at 1.35 and MCH is at 1.4

I havent heard any high pitch sounds yet. I primed for probably about 4 hours total today and everything is quiet, thank god. Sorry about your boards, I hope mine doesnt follow.

If it's the same as the EP45 and EP45T Extreme boards,

manually changing the
DRAM Voltage will scale the following values if left to auto
MCH/DRAM Reference
DRAM Termination
Channel A Reference
Channel B Reference
I manually set all these to ~ 1/2 DRAM Voltage for high frequencies

and manually changing the
CPU Termination (aka vTT) will scale the following values if left to auto

the above max suggestions are only a guide, some have been running higher vTT and PLL for months with no problems... so far ;)

* I found scaling back the MCH Reference volts after increasing vTT seems to have helped me find stability when overclocking.

i never had an air quad @ 5GHz and all my quad needs more vcore than any 45nm duo

F4-4 is made to be fast in superpi 1m (probabaly only 1M, slower for all other tests). I think it lacks the E0 support to be fast in 1M (same with Maximus bios for exmple when penryn came out).

I had the same problem w/ my Q9550 E0. Solid stable at 450x8.5 w/ only 1.28v but crashed anything beyond that. I could do 500x8 or 475x8.5 for benches but prime crashed after 12~21 min. I've tried everything but nothing worked. The same happened using my previous P5Q Deluxe, but not benchable, so it's the chip, not the mobo. I got another Q9650 on the way, hopefully I'll be able to go over 4ghz 24/7 this time.

Board is installed and running at 500*9 4500mhz 1.39v in windows with the q9650. I changed the main voltages but left most everything on auto. I fail core 2 after about 5 minutes with blend or small fft. I think after some tweaking i'll be ok. What gtl would you guys recommend for yorkies? alright back to testing.....

I admit, we got it wrong, this CPU went south with 1.45V VTT and 1.4V PLL real on this board. :D I hate to say I told you so, but what the hell, I told you so. :rofl:

I got a new board and E8600 yesterday, so far, so good on F5A but this E8600 sucks compared to my first one. Maybe something was up with the initial batch of boards or the gremlins had a sense of humor screwing around with our first board. I just know as soon as I dialed it up a little, it went south. The new board never blinked on the first overclock.

I've had this board up and running an hour. I previously had 2-Striker 2 Formulas, 1-MSI P7N diamond, 1-EVGA 780 FTW,
2- Maximus 2 formulas and 1- Rampage Extreme.My goal was a Q9650 4500Mhz 500x9 on Air. None of the other boards could do it.
Closest stable was 490x9 with the MIIF. I've only had 1 BSOD with this board and it only took an hour for the beginnings of an oustanding OC session.
This is what i call FUN! I've booted into windows at 533X8 only to get my 1 and only BSOD after 10-15 seconds.
That was with no extra voltage over what i'm running now. I'll be checking for max FSB Next.

I didn't see no point in having the flagship version - EP45-UD3P.

I only use 1 Graphics Card & I would never use dual GbE Lan or onboard dolby surround sound - got X-fi Titanium on the way anyway.

Hence why I chose the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R I think a majority of people bought the P version for the sake of it lol. :yepp:

dood, i got 8x 543 on my q9450 for a quick validation and 8x 540 for SPi 1M. (on air)
I think i can do higher when i get under dice, NB volts make a big difference.

First off WAYY too much VTT!!! I haven't gone over 1.52 for 530 quad fsb 3d benching stable, and even around there i was nervous! You really could have hurt your chip already...
Bump that all the way down to 1.32~1.4

More VNB--go to around 1.5~1.6 should get you stable. Though you shouldn't need that much for 475-480, i can get 500 at 1.5v so i'm guessing this is probably your cpu's limitations.

As I have told- tryed many different values and nothing helps:mad: (from 1.2 to 1.55 for VTT) Tryed 1.65V for VNB and its the same- isnt stable for 485mhz FSB!
And there isnt any cpu limitations (E8600 goes 620, and E8500 goes at least 580fsb) Any more solutions?
