Just got through ... I'm afraid I'll have too put a 8800GTS on my christmas I'll-buy-myself-presents list. Anything more than 1280x1024 on medium quality w/o AA is too much for my 7900GT. And while it looks good, I know it could be better! ;)
And WOW it looks good ... I shudder to think what it'll look like on high quality and with DX10.
Wow that's a nice server. Just about maxing me out at 1200KB/s.
Well, my rig is in the sig, and i can say that now im sure i'll be able to play it, at least :) It runs definitely much smoother than betas, and the average framerate now is better - 30-40 fps, sometimes more, sometimes less. I took some screenies, but the graphics are - ghm, well, actually in Far Cry i can get a better look at higher framerate :) If you're interested, http://forums.overclockers.ru/viewto...372745#4372745 - here are those screenshots.
So much for the gfx, the gameplay is pretty interesting. AI is pretty smart - searching for covers, trying to flank me, using grenades. The shooting mechanics in overall are very good, and the cinematic intros are just great - those few i saw here are worth of being shown on cinema :) Physics are something really exciting - at last we've got a FPS in which you can grab any object in the world around - just like in HL2 (although right now it seems to be a very little practical use of that, but it's good nontheless as it is). And something really cool begins when you get into the jeep and run over a building\cut the trees of with machinegun' fire :)
Well and while i've been writing this, i'd uploaded the video with first minutes of gameplay recorded. Check this -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR4_FlLgoL4
Quote:
This is how the game starts, you've been warned about spoilers ;) The graphics are bad, but my rig seem not to be possible to run Crysis better whith a playable framerate than this, 1280*1024\noAA\everything on middle, but shaders and shadows on low, while sound/water/physics/textures on high. Also sound is scruffy sometimes and i've no explanation for the lag caused by clouds 'till 01:40 - framerate then jumps from 6-8 to ~30fps with the clouds disapearing from screen. <...>
It seems to be an official EA server ;)Quote:
Wow that's a nice server.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/o8egm4 same video as above in better resolution than on youtube, 71 MB, H264
The game runs like crap. What a disappointment.
Game ran fine on my OC'd Celeron 326 @3.8 GHz with a stock speed X800 GTO.
LOL...I was suprised. Although I would just love to have something like a Q6600 and 8800 GT just so I could turn up the "eye candy".
Honestly the gameplay dissapoints though.....to me it just seems almost exactly like "Far Cry", but with better graphics.
I call bullsh|t phosphate. What resolution are you playing at? and what were your frames per second?
A lot of people with computers similar to and better than mine are complaining of low frames per second and having to turn settings down
http://www.fileplanet.com/168866/160...-(Singleplayer)
also in file planet.
....COD4 FTW!!!
I ran whatever the "auto detect" defaults were for my set-up.
I am guessing I was "auto-set" at 800x600 just like I was when I played Call of Duty 4 demo with the same computer.
Of course my monitor will support 1680 x 1050, but no way would I expect to run this with high detail and AA on.
finished downloading the demo...took 48 minutes to complete the download...
my early impressions:
damn this is gonna be a system killer for a lot of people...I first started playing at 1600 x 1200 with all Graphical settings on 'High' + 4x AA...low frame rates and not very playable...lowered settings down to 1360 x 1024 with everything on 'High' and 4X AA and the game is a lot smoother and playable but not ideal...hopefully Crytek will continue to optimize the code for this game as this is the first game my system has struggled with
as for the game itself...
nothing spectacular so far but the game does look very nice...I think making the player start off in the middle of the night diminishes the 'Wow' factor a bit as things looked a bit grainy...the nanosuit also requires a bit of a learning curve as their are a bunch of different settings the player needs to get used to (the default mapping also sucks---they made the 'Mouse Wheel' button the key that activates the nanosuit, but it is very difficult to maneuver through the settings with that key binding)
a bit too many early lengthy cutscenes which takes away from the learning curve
the game seems like it would look spectacular with DX10...the lighting, facial animations, vegetation etc look very good and I could only imagine what they look like in DX10...this game makes me want to buy a new system
It runs fine on mine at 1440x900(my monitors native) with all on medium.
I will be frank, and say that this demo is going to either put or scrape Crysis off my to-buy list for November.. I'm very much hoping for the former, as I've enjoyed the MP beta a whole lot... But I need good single-player to go along, otherwise it's a no-go...
Best Regards :toast:
Playing at 1280X1024 in vista dx10 with hardware in sig with all settings on very high brings my system to its knees. Averaging 20-30fps with 15 in heavy fights. WOW thought my system would do better than this. Kinda disappointed. Graphics are sweet but not that sweet. The sunlight glistening through the trees is pretty impressive. Game play is well thought out. Enemy's have pretty good AI, circling around you and calling for help. Physics are really cool, shooting down trees, driving through sheds and so on. All in all I'll prolly buy it.
1280*1024\aa4x\everything on High.
[ADD] sorry, no AA on screenies, game seems to drop down this setting if i set shaders for anything else than low %(

Finished the demo, I'm buying the damn game on release-date... It was awesome...
Played through the entire thing at 1680x1050, all high, DX9, 16xAA (roughly 4x performance) supersampling, 16xAF, both forced through drivers, although I'm not sure the AA was actually activated... It didn't run absolutely perfect, but worst I saw was 15-18fps... So with a bit of tweaking, It'll run perfect...
And, oh, before I forget... The game's gourgeous :D
I died a few times through, I'm sorry to say, but checkpoints are pretty abundant, so no biggie... Excellent character-models, facial-expressions are impressive to say the least, and the story really gives you a sense of "what the hell happens next"...
I might sound like a little squealing fanboy right now, but trust me, it's fantastic...
Now, for the nerdy stuff only a weapon-geek of intense magnitude, would notice...
The reflex-sight in the game, actually isn't a reflex-sight... It's a so-called "Holographic sight", produced by EoTech, which doesn't reflect anything onto anything... It projects the image of a reticle (IIRC) 100feet infront of you, giving a very clear aiming point.. Also, the reticle is crystal-clear, not like the washed-out, grainy one in the game... Also, the reticle isn't a dot in the real sight, it's more like the one in the multi-player beta (which, apart fron also being grainy, is spot on).... If you would like to see what a real EoTech holo-sight reticle looks like, go play GRAW 1-2 and CoD4... They all got it right... Also, another thing...
The idea behind reflex/holographic sights is that they allow you to have both eyes open while aiming, so you don't lose your periphial (SP?) vision, and lose the "big picture"... You simply raise your weapon, look down the sights, and your brain automatically transfers "supiriority" to the eye looking through the sight, but since there's no magnification, you can still have the other eye open, losing no field of view...
No single game I've seen to date has been able to duplicate this, probably because a screen can only represent one "eye"... Technically, whenever you play an FPS, you play with one eye closed ;)
Best Regards :toast:
Please name one game which has more (photo) realistic graphics... Not better graphics, more realistic... Cause that definitely ain't the same thing ;)...
Yes, better realism contributes to better graphics, but there's more to great graphics than high res textures and brown colors... This game has one of the most vivid color-palettes I've ever seen in an FPS, especially of late...
Saying that a 12 month old GFX should be able to handle a completely new game with everything on "you-won't-believe-it" high, is kind of a moot point... Come on, we knew this game was going to pull out teeth, Far Cry did the same thing back in the day... Problem is, resolution's gotten larger since then, so now people expect to be able to use high settings and higher resolutions, without their hardware breaking a sweat...
I'm happy my 8800GTX can handle the game without having to sacrifice too much image-quality, but I weren't expecting miracles ;)...
Best Regards :toast:
I'd like to see more comments on Core 2 Duo / X19xx series setups. I am sure it will run fine on my 8800 but I'm a bit worried about the other rig.
To maintain a playable framerate (over 30) I have to run Medium settings @ my native res of 1900x1200.
C2D E6850 @ 3.6 / 2GB DDR2 @ 1000 5-5-5-15 / 8800GTS 640
It's a slideshow on high. Looks like we'll need next year's hardware for this one.
I guess unless you are playing on high settings at 8x AA on 2560x 1600 resolution nothing else counts.:welcome:
Believe it or not I believe this game is playable by even older/lower spec computers unless your "acceptable and tolerable" graphics standards are very high end. Yes I know this is Xtreme systems, but trust me the game is playable if you don't need high resolution. Of course I would still prefer a 8800 Video card for this one.
Gotta admit, I don't see the fuss... Yes, if you call anything below 60FPS constant "terrible" performance, then yes, this game doesn't deliver at higher settings... But if you can live with 30-40fps as an average, then with a little tweaking, you're good to go... I don't see why people with 8800-series cards are making a fuss.. The tech's a year old, we all knew this was coming, and so far it's still only a demo (close to release, but still)... And if you don't feel your hardware's doing the job you want it to do, go buy something newer (which you can't currently ;) )....
/rant
Played through it twice now, and this is the first game I've played, which advertised combat adaptable AI and random enemy placement, which actually delivers...
Also, I wish they'd given you the ACOG-sight from the get-go... I'm getting tired of sniping with a goddamn red-dot sight... :p:
Best Regards :toast:
Graphics = Absolutely Breathtaking . . . Everything Else = Not Revolutionary
First, Thanks moonsond for the great server post. Dl'd under an hour last night.
I tried to set everthing max at 19x12 res + 16xQ and to my surprise the game ran smoother than I expect although I know for most of you 15-25FPS average is not acceptable.
At these settings the game looked just like the videos I have been seeing so I can say no matter how I think about EA, I have to accept the fact that Crytek delivered what's been promised in terms of graphics.
By disabling AA completely I earned between 5 to 10 extra FPS and I'm sure I can tweak te performance even further. Besides, I don't even use the latest drivers.
The level was almost identical to FarCry demo in terms of environment but I still enjoyed it. I think the gameplay is awesome since it gives you an open ended environment and lets you progress as your liking. You can sneak or go berserk. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely but this game if I had money.
Runs fine at 1920x1200, High settings, no AA (E6850, 8800GTX, 2GB Ram, Vista):

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...md/crysis5.jpg
hmmm im slightly dissapointed. Finished work, downloaded demo, installed, auto detect, 4 fps :( this would be very high settings with aa on 16q though. I thought my system would be able to play this, ahh well when water cooling comes looks like i need some oc'ing (btw QX6850 is at 3Ghz)
so been playing it on medium and 2 aa for 20+ fps. something seems very wrong here
I finally figured out hiow to get it to play on Vista64, you need to run the exe file from the bin32 folder, not 64. Anyways, it looks great but runs like cr@p on my card.
I guess I thought graphics would be better from looking at all the screen shots the producers posted over the last year or so. Specifically the facial screen shots with all the detail. Don't get me wrong some graphics like the lighting are the best I've ever seen, no doubt, and the water is truly amazing. Very realistic. Just expected more. Hype tends to build that factor.
I think a lot of people are unhappy about buying a 500$+ video card within the last month or so and expecting to be able to play the new games at their highest settings only to be disappointed, myself included. Think I would have been better off holding onto my 7900gtx a little longer because I could play all the current games at their highest settings already.
e6850 8800gts 4gb ram, and its unplayable in medium high and very high (of course), i dont know what is the problem, i reinstalled the windows and the problem persist, maybe a little increase of frame rate but stills unplayable, im using windows vista 64 with all update including the hotfix for 8xxx series, its unplayable with both executables 32 and 64 bits, the 64 bits is the hell 10 minuts falling on parachute :S, and using forceware beta for crysis, the rest of games run perfectly.
any recommendation?
sorry for my english.
I love the Sandbox editor ... you can drop in at any point in the demo, add weapons, fly around the map, etc, also try completing the demo in delta mode, the Koreans get a lot smarter, ... all in all it looks like being a great game

anyone with a quad core,2gb ram and 8800gtx fps???
cheers
anyone try this demo with similar setup on different OS's? Im curious to see Vista 64bit vs 32bit vs XP.
Well, I'm not impressed at all. Not a smooth running game & my specs are more than enough. Q6600 @ 3.6 w/6GB of RAM RAID0 8800GTS @ 1003/600 Vista64. I think the game to get this season is COD4:shocked:
Well, i managed about 20fps on average, sometimes a little more than that (upto 26fps in places) on the rig in my sig.
Settings were at 1440x900 all at medium. I'm happy with that though, i only paid £117 for this card back in March, pleased its held up so well. Picking up an 8800GT and another 2gb OCZ DDR2-667 via my girlfriend this week, so i'll be even happier :)
169.01 my ass!!! It screwed up the game for me. Getting 7fps where I used to get 20+. Ridiculous!
Sandbox Editor how to ... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...781142&page=37
Why is everyone having problems with the beta drivers? I was getting unplayable framerates at medium, but as soon as i installed the new forceware drivers getting 60 fps on medium dropping to 40 in places but on average around 50fps?
I haven't had any problems with the beta drivers. I suggest you guys do a driver sweeper/cleaner removal and install 169.01 drivers and also install the Nov runtimes for Direct X. I've been playing in DX10 at 1680x1050 with all settings on high (not very high) and it is playable (15-45 fps) and I'm using q6600 @ 3.6ghz, 4gb ram, and 8800gtx stock. Additionally DX9 runs at 1920x1200 at these same settings and is playable. If you want over 60 fps I suggest you go to DX9 mode and bring down the resolution...
anyone know why I'm getting this when I try to open Sandbox editor?
25-30fps average framerate on both the CPU and GPU timedemo batch files.

Above settings=decent game even in high foliage/multiple AI areas. Occasionally dips to 20 though.
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/5...325634cvo9.jpg
Yeah the framerate can be decent when tweaked.
Run the GPU timedemo though and you'll be surprised how inadequate your hardware really is.
169.01 gave me another 3-4fps over 163.76.
I'm not sure if this demo is multi-threaded or not, but I only manage 25-28fps average in the CPU timedemo with an E6850 @ 3.6Ghz :(
About performance on lower-end hardware.
First of all, i benched(via BAT files in the bin32 dir) my rig(sig) in 1280*1024 w\o AA on 163.71\XP SP2 and got these results:
GPU
lo - 31.25\45.58\68.61
med - 9.56\17.93\25.24
hi - 3.03\8.38\11.92
CPU
lo - 16.88\45.08\56.51
med - 7.59\16.33\21.65
hi - 2.99\7.95\11.52
BTW, it would be interesting for me to compare my bench results with someone either on 7900 GS\GT or GF 8600\R2600.
Next - i played alot with settings and GPU bench and found the best settings for me.(i did set textures to high, engine seem to have tuned this setting, but textures still look very nice)
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3...4412tx3.th.jpg
And i'm - generally - getting an average 30-45 fps, sometimes, especially when large amount of objects is being precached, such as in the first level start - it may drop to 20-25 for a few secs, but it does not disturb me so much. In some places, i can even get 50+.
Graphics - of course are not that good, especially light\shadowing on objects in world is poor compared even to that on "med" shadows, but... graphics are pretty nice and clean indeed, and water is something amazing :) And, as for me, the most beautiful thing in any 3d game is a high framerate. :)
In general - the "Shaders" are the most "heavy" setting gpu-wise, but that's giving the greatest visual candy for you as well. Try to compare how grass\trees look on low and high shaders setting - you'll understand me.
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/2...5239qp2.th.jpghttp://img141.imageshack.us/img141/5...5809tx1.th.jpghttp://img140.imageshack.us/img140/2...0368gg8.th.jpghttp://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7...0656tn5.th.jpg
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/5...1221bw0.th.jpghttp://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4...1635ol0.th.jpghttp://img132.imageshack.us/img132/7...2281vy1.th.jpghttp://img147.imageshack.us/img147/9...3189zp7.th.jpg
And in conclusion, 'bout CPU and physics. I tried to bench "low" and "med" settings only.
Results in cpu bench were 22.41\38.92\52.53 and 14.70\27.78\52.72 respectively. So, if you've got a "weak" CPU - drop the physics first of all and see for performance. It can make your shooting experience a lot better in a very dynamic moments.

I've played through it twice so far on the rig in my sig. AWESOME game play. I really enjoyed it.
At 1280x960 and everything on MED it plays just fine.
The second time through in several places I just put away my gun, went into strength mode, and just punched all the guys out. So much fun!! :D:D
yeah shadows kills performance, i have everything else high and shadow/post processing medium ...
post processing gets u about 5fps loss when u move...
lol 2900xt cf lags to :banana::banana::banana::banana: (30fps) at 19*12 everything on high, and thats with the exe renamed to fear.exe. CF is not supported atm at all, surprise surprise. I'll try med settings and perhaps lower res. GO AMD WOOOO
Just installed the demo, but still waiting for my 8800GTS RMA :(
I played it Friday Night, bought (pre-ordered) it Saturday afternoon LOL!
P.S. X1800XT Med setting@13 X 9 still looked good and ran nicely.
anyone played with the Sandbox tool?
anyone figured out how to add the rest of the weapons on the SP demo?
Just got it downloaded and played for a bit. It looks and runs perfectly on my system at 1920x1200, everything on High, 8X AA. I installed the 169 driver just to play it. Downloading the COD4 demo right now... stupid Kuwaiti internet!

Yeah you'll need medium as well, just like my X1950Pro system. Sad considering you're a full generation ahead of that.
So glad i didnt pick up that 2900xt - even if it was only $300 :)
Wow the gameplay is amazing... don't even start on the graphics! I don't really understand why DX10 has less performance than the DX9. Should be the other way around.

...so i will need an 8800gt or 3850 minimum fer sure :)
Plays decent on my X1950Pro system on medium a 1680x1050. Maintains probably 25fps average.
Had a quick jaunt around in XP and the game seems great. Ran at 1920 X 1200 no problems with 8XAA.
I found the performance with max settings at 1680x1050 was sub-par for me.
I need a decent FPS in shooter games, and 25-30 wasn't cutting it.
Dropping the post-processing and shadows to medium provided a playable 30-40 fps.
I run my CPU oc'ed to 3.6 and my vid cards at stock. This game might make me OC these puppies :P
not sure if anyone posted it here already but,
they have just disabled the very high setting in the game if you dont use windows vista and dx10,
with modded configfiles you can run on the very high setting on windows xp dx9
and THE GAME LOOK JUST AS FINE AS ON VISTA DX10!
it seems it even work better on windows xp dx9

almost cant believe its true haha
edit: ooops :) http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=163687
sorry haha
I've had it downloaded since it came out and finally got chance to play it (to much TF2 for me).
Astonishing game! Graphics are insane and game play is fantastic.
It runs decent on my rig, needs some more clocks thou.

FYI, it is not impossible to get DX10 effects while having XP. This has been confirmed by Valve with their Orange Box product/TF2.
As long as you have a DX10 card and the game is designed for it of course.
Subs for DL
Very fun and very good looking. Anyone else play in the sandbox editor? I had so much fun shooting nukes, killing aliens, flying helicopters and starting tornadoes.... I almost spent as much time in that as I did in the demo....
Me, but i'm trying to do some mapping instead. :)Quote:

The editor is something simply amazing. Even the Sandbox 1 was one of the all-time best FPS' editors, and now it became only better! It would be my dream to get all these features in Valve Hammer Editor for example...
I have everything on max with shadows on low and I get around 20-30fps at 1680x1050 with a 7800GT.
My 8800GT will hopefully come soon.
Low shadows just ruins a game though. It may have a large performance impact, but it also has an equally large visual impact :(
Wow, interesting to read how its performing with the different setups. I am in China on business and am looking forward to returning back home to load this on my desktop. Ill post results when I get back.
Would my msi ultra handle all settings on high at 1920x1200?
i wonder how this would run on a ps3, probably not as good with all teh features on high vers a computer.
i kinda like that is only on the pc.
how does the ps3 graphics card compare to whats out now for pc's?
Sweet JESUS!
I have a 8800gt on the way along with a 24" Samsung this weekend (for my bday) We'll see how well the combo does. I have a feeling I'm going to need a second 8800gt to max out a lot of the new games coming out.
Doesn't really matter for the demo as ther is no sli support for Crysis yet. Can't wait until the full, optimized version comes out.
It just can't do it, we don't know if its drivers or just how it is.
I do know that we cannot pass the "medium" mark on this game yet for smooth gameplay. We need the next generation of GPUs.
Does this game take advantage od multiple threads?
after playing this first time today on my 7900gtx at 1920 on low snap shot mode haha, going to get a 8800gt for £150 and maybe pair it up with another in a few months, not bothered about getting top end stuff just something so i can play this game abit better
I've been playing on 1680x1050 all high settings except Shaders and shadows on medium with an average framerate of 38fps. Amazing game, I've been playing it all weekend.
I've also been messing with the sandbox editor. I'm spawning all the weapons and attatchments in the demo level too. All I need to figure out is how to "rest" the objects on tables and such so they dont just float there when you pick up or break the object they're on.
Just a heads up for those with widescreens and GTXs... When I first got the demo I loaded it up in all its 1920x1080 glory and of course was getting 10-12fps. I tried various combinations of settings, but wasnt happy with the loss in visual quality. I finally had to abandon the native res of my HDTV to get acceptable frames.
Best compromise for me was to run at 1360x768 resoultion with all settings left on very high. This gives 30ish in the GPU bench and is very playable in game. Its wprth noting that 1360x768 is roughly %70 of full native res and aspect ratio is maintained. It is worth the %30 hit in rez to keep all DX10 features enabled (very high)
I dunno about very high settings, but my GTX runs it beautifully at 1680x1050, all high except shaders and shadows, which are med...
Soulburner, what resolution are you running?
im liking it, played it at 1680x1050 2xAA high everything except shadows, and volumetric lighting, shaders was off w/ my 7800gt
It's official... I'm a fanboy...
Just pre-ordered the game at my local Blockbuster, and I'm currently wearing a black T-shirt with a large "CrYsis" written diagonally across the front.. :D :woot:
Best Regards :toast:
i loved the demo i might fork out the $50 to get the game, i had a few problems with cat 8.4 drivers so i went back to 7.8 and they were fixed looks awesome love how you can shoot down little trees
so i'm guessing i couldn't max this out @ 1680 x 1050 with my gtx @ 660/2040,2gb ram and quad @ 3.2ghz
anyone found any commands (cheat codes) when you hit the ~ key during gameplay? I've tried all sorts and none found so far...
OK, found a cheat:
it works.. your health goes to zero but bounces back to full, and ammo is unlimited.
so you can be bullet proof and beat the heck out of everyone with your fists if you want LOL!

God Mode
Locate the difficulty files in your Crysis installation folder (ie: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Game\Config). These files are called diff_easy.cfg, diff_normal.cfg, diff_hard.cfg and diff_bauer.cfg. Open the file (with Notepad) that corresponds to the difficulty level you are playing. Add the following line to the end of the file and save it:
g_godMode = 1
Now, when playing your health will still decrease but you will not die. Instead, your health and armor will automatically replenish when your health reaches 0.
Unlimited Ammo
Using the same method as above, add the following line to the end of your config file:
i_unlimitedammo = 1
Your ammo will be frozen in the game.
I have a GTS and it works fine.. I don't know what the problem is..
All I want is the scope so I can get better stealth headshots.
Next, I need to go through it without firing a shot.... only rocks, sticks, and punches
