Long time no see...NVIDIA 8800GTX testing.

After a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG time, I've desided to start playing with NVIDIA VGA's...
This VGA I've played with, is not a good clocker (I think) though but it's a start...:D

Observations: Easy tuning and easy overclocking in comparison with the ATI ones....IF someone has played with ATI and then goes with them, he'll think that it's a piece of cake as for tuning them...EASY....:D

VGA is only Vmem moded for the time been.... :)

Please post your thoughts about the following benches coz I haven't played with NVIDIA for a long time so I do not know what to expect out of it and to "tune" it better....

I have to say that I'm with the LN2 container on the CPU for heatsink BUT without any LN2 .....yet....:D
After that bench, I poor in some icecubes and water so as to bench higher...:D

Good start hipro5 is that is your old AWD9-MAX (Still alive)

I think hipro knows about those, they've been out for a while :)

Now ATI LOD tweaking via the registry, that's where the fun is at! :D Though I think ati tool now has lod adjustments in it?

looking at Hipro´s nature score, i would say he´s settings are what they should be for the clocks:)

Get the cards under subzero temps, the X6800 that does 5.4g bench, and I know, FOR SURE, that you will have no problem getting 100k. Im pretty sure thats all KP was lacking, if he didnt already do it, in getting 100k was just that little bit of CPU power. Good luck and welcome to the darkside :D

Soon we will see whether kingpin still has some backup scores left :D

Good luck with all your benching George :toast:, and it's about time you started benching NV cards again, they are the best ;). Your card clocks are looking good for air.. but g80's can go higher with stock HSF.
FYI, I think there will be some new drivers released which will be wqhl towards the middle to end of next week.
May give a little perf boost and finally get the cards in the HOF.
Been waiting forever for them.
Can't wait to see my Tek9's on those 8800's. New brackets fit nice?

Yes I have learned the ASUS Striker pretty easy I could say.:D
NO I don't have "fsb holes" as many have claimed...With bios 404 AND bios 505, I get the same....Perhaps my "moded" Corsair 8000UL ram modules helps for this.....I have flashed them and they have their own and unique EPP on their SPD chip right now......:D
The board in general performs quite well but it can't "catch up" the 975 chipset easy....
1:1 is the best here as for me.....Async ram has too much latencies.....Also playing with dividers as for ram, it has more latencies than 1:1...;)

P.S. I have to admit that the GeForce 8800GTX is VERY powerful card....:)

Over at OCX hicookie explained that booting at 425FSB or more you will get slower results then booting under 425, i.e 424 gives more performance due to a different strap. So 424 with a higher multi would be faster then higher fsb I believe if I understood him correctly.

When I put it under LN2, I'll now for sure....I'm counting on ASUS mobo design though that it'll do it....;)

661 is decent clocks for an 8800 gtx. If you can push that card with no
vmods on stock cooler to atleast 685-695mhz then you got an good one
as im sure your aiming for atleast 900/2500 for that card......:)

97.44's with an selected 3D profile does help also....

Hello. What are typical oc-values?

I tried to oc with ATI-Tool. 630/980 seams 2 be stable. 634 are stable 2, but at 635 i got a freeze. oO Is this normal? 990MHz@RAM provids artifacts :(

Vince I haven't played with shader clocks at all and haven't search it yet.....For the time been, I'm just learning the VGAs and the mobo....:)

All these RAM timings Hipro is putting up is making me wonder whether my 3-3-3 1T is actually that good . I'll now have to try more permutations.

Actually 3-3-3-x with good subtimes AND 1:1 is good.....at ~50MHz more than 4-2-2-x....;)
I mean that when I will bench (hopefully with this mobo) at 5400MHz+ and ~416MHz 4-2-2-x, I'll need at least 470MHz of 3-3-3-x to much it....The x12 multi allows me to bench at 450MHz and 3-3-3-1....No thanks....4-2-2-X for me....:D

Just been testing it outside in the shed and the 2-2 does seem to be the big deal ..of course my cheap memory modules will not run 2-2 so 2-2 must be good :D I got no improvement going from cas 4 to cas 3 so it looks as if I will have to tighten up the subtimings and do lots of tests. Hope my wife does not mind me being missing all Saturday :)

The wife has had to go back for RMA ( making funny noises every time I did any overclocking ) so I have been out in the shed :D

Wow the sub timnings really make a difference

2M superPi 3-3-3-4 lax subtimings = 36.453s
2M superPi 3-3-3-4 tight subtimings = 34.515s

There's me been thinking it was not worth the effort as they were only subtimings. That's why I'm not cut out to be topdog overclocker .. do not try everything and anything to see what it does :)

My crucial memory which is very cheap and rated 4-4-4 at 800Mhz 2.2v is doing 3-3-3 1T 840 at 2.5v so not bad for a set of none specialized standard memory.Only cost me £100. I guess one day I should buy something a bit better though.

PS When are you going LN2 ?

1.22K in nature on air with LN2 100K will fall once more for sure

Some updates on 2k6......fsb is TOO BAD in those quads.......:(

One good thing is that this mobo gives another strap below 1400 fsb(350MHz) and the latency of the rams are quite good.....IF I could play at 400MHz 1:1 under LN2 with this CPU I would be happy...:D

In 3D, I must say 3-3-3 is very competitive. No longer have Fatties, but I tried 410x10 1:1 4-2-2-1 against 3-3-3-8 on GMH in 2001SE. The 4-2-2-1 did win...but by under 50 points, both in the 72k range...very close.

My preference when all is said and done goes to the GMH, but they're both very close when tuned correctly. The GMH will always win in longer Pi calculations though, if that matters.

Yeah, for some reason those sticks didn't seem to like CAS 3 so much. 4-2-2-x is where they were happiest. (Good to about 450MHz with 2.65v)

P5B Dlx have more perf. with 4-4-4-4. 4-4-3-X and 4-3-3-X ... is slower.

I was trying to get past your 7900GS score today and my Ballistix was doing 3-3-3-6 1T at 820 ( see score ) but I then started having problems in car hi which does point to memory problems I think. Time to change RAM myself but I have a cash problem at the moment after Christmas ...

Cas 3-2-2-x and 1T on Fatbodies doesn't work......only 4-2-2-x....

Some UPDATES after insulating the mobo....:)

CPU - for the time been - is a QX6700 (Quad Core)....cooled by one of the BETA esdee's cascades.....
Full load is -91*C on 2k6 bench as for all tests of it and as for the CPU tests is -87.5*C...
CPU is feeded with only 1.66VCore coz the cascade can't handle THAT much load - for the time been - .....:D
