Someone has to know some voltage mods on these boards. The drop and droop are horrible. Good thing the latest BIOS revisions go to 1.9v. Someone please sticky this.
(Striker Extreme) You'll need a stick of DDR2 with speced 1.8V to boot the board first off to get into bios and set 2.xx V for you ram that requires 2V and over to run. Default V for ram is 1.8V in bios on first boot.
Also voltages like NB, SB etc all overvolt by around .03 and default to pretty high settings, lower all these as they don't require such high settings to run stock or even oced. Vcore underlolts by around .10V
I can't hit 500 fsb (QDR2000) for hte life of me with this L628B...
What is LDT5x on a Intel board, wtf?? Best setting for 500+

Just a general comment about low voltage and ram. Before you buy low cost ram as a backup try booting with a single stick. My mobo wouldn't boot with both sticks in @ 1.84v and would with one stick. I just went to the BIOS, increased the voltage then appropriately added the second stick after a save|shut down.
for high fsb increase nb voltage at fist then increase cpu vtt voltage if the nb voltage alone doesnt help. mine is running 3ghz at 1.18vcore and 1.3v NB. all other voltage on Auto.
If your not booting at 1.8v the memory maker didn't do it right. They are supposed to have very conservative SPD settings and you have to modify it to specs. For instance mine is 667 3-3-3-8 at 2.2v but the SPD is like for 5-5-5-15 and that works at 1.8v.
I had my vcore at 3.825Ghz 1.36v (1.344 after droop.. BIOS setting 1.475) and the other day I was getting 40 minutes in Orthos priority 10 blend. A few minutes ago I tried with higher vcore and it instantly stopped. The biggie is the FSB. I updated to 0302 and all my BIOS settings were wipped. After changing NB to 1.45v and VTT to 1.5v its running again.
Still not optimal. I need a lot more playing.
It looks like things were working better with the 0202 BIOS. Also note that after flashing you do have to unplug and pull the battery for a few minutes to get it to post. To give you an idea.
3.825 Ghz BIOS setting 1.4750v all on auto instant orthos priority 10 blend stop
messing with northbridge and vtt voltages up to about 2 and a half minutes
Up BIOS setting to 1.50v and it drops in 30 seconds!
I'm right now back on 202 BIOS and its 14 minutes in on 1.49785v BIOS 1.35NB 1.45VTT. I got 40 minutes before on the 202 at 1.475v BIOS.
Does P5N32-E use same BIOS as Striker???? 0502, 0508??
On the Striker Board -
This depends on the CPU you are utilizing -
1. Install a single DIMM in the number three memory slot and watch your FSB increase on average about 15~30, in some instances I have seen a 40FSB increase on this board. While the single channel memory performance will still fall about 5~10% under dual channel after the normal tweaks, it will allow you to post some interesting CPU-Z screeenshots. ;)
2. I will list out the voltage tweaks this weekend to get the board in the zone when overclocking.

Striker 0505 bios,
1) use a single ram stick in the farthest ram slot for initial boot up, it should work.
2) NB works fine at 1.2v, even for overclocking, anything past 1.5v actually worsens stability.

everything else defaulkt = 4Ghz
upgraded to 0305 then the latest and it won't boot over 10x??? :stick:

this board (P5N32-E SLI) or at least mine acts really wierd.
I tried aflash and afudos to flash back to an older bios and neither worked.
Then in the bios, I tried using the utility to flash and nothing until after 5 bios resest via jumper.
Then it took and I flashed back to 0202...finally...:stick:
No battery removal required this time.
Now running at 4Ghz or 15 x 1066
Voltage at 1.675 = 1.54
I have had this chip running at 4Ghz on 1.3v on another board, but this one won't boot it at such a low voltage...:slapass:
Anyhow...will try 0302, \cause I don't remember if it would take 15x...0405 will not (so far)

I just received my E6600 and my P5N32-E SLI MB but after reading stories about machines that won't post or memory that causes BSOD I am pretty worried about getting the wrong RAM. I had settled on getting two of the Kingston KHX6400D2LLK2/1GN sets for a total of 2GB with 4 512MB chips since these are on the QVL. I do plan to upgrade though at some point to 4 Gig. of RAM but i probably won't be until next Summer.
What do you guys recommend as good solid RAM that shouldn't give me any problems? I plan to try running my system at 2.8GHz. Stability is very important to me.

btw. my striker came with bios 0402 which is dated 11/10/2006, on the asus site is the 0302 with release date 11/21/2006 and here are versions 0202 and 0505 mentioned.
0505 is the newest, that's clear but did i get it right that the 0302 is newer then the 0402?
Just about anything is going to handle 2.8Ghz. I'd actually recommend just going in and changing to 1333FSB if your not looking for much. That would be 3Ghz and it shouldn't require any other setting change to get things stable. Except maybe some memory settings (timings, etc which suck on auto and some memory needs more voltage for rated specs).Quote:

the good thing with the 0505 bios is tighter timings at lower voltage with more stability with the supertalent modules using stock fsb.
the bad thing is, that i'm still unable to get over 300fsb with the supertalent dimms and 333fsb with corsair has a 50/50 chance of a successfull boot or hanging at the boot screen before the memory test. two times i got it to boot at 360fsb but crashed and at 400fsb all i get is a black screen.
checked out the other striker threads here on xs.org, tried a lot of different memory timings, frequencies and voltages but without any countable results. :(
switched the cpu to a core 2 x6800 and the bad oc results are gone.
at least 450fsb seems to be no no problem now, even without extensive tweaking.
anyone else having oc problems with the combination qx6700+striker?
I put my p5n32-e sli on hold for the same reasons.
check your P5N32-E revision....
remove mark label from the board... Mine board print says: Striker Extreme rev. 1.0 :)

1.Improve performance for certain memory modules.
2.Fix CPU Voltage max option goes down to 1.60V error when 'Tri Chinese' , 'Sim Chinese' or 'Japanese' is selected in Multi-Language option.

yes the bios upgrades allow for more vcore, but still a lot of vdroop
I have 3 or more sets of memory that this board does not like, especially at 1T.
the same mem works wonderfully on the nvidea reference boards at 1T.
So if improvements have been made to the memory compatability or whatever, it hasn't helped any of mine.
Hopefully others are having better luck...:stick:
Im on the striker, and for some reason this board is impossible @ anything beyond the 400FSB (1600) i can boot till 500FSb (X8) no problem but orthos stable...is as unpredictable as a woman on PMS. Last night i primed for 8hours on end @ 3.6ghz. Now today with the same exact setting it pooped out after 15minutes! :slapass: WTF.. This CPU is upto 3.9 orthos stable hours on end...yet here on this strike out motherboard it seems not done.
BTW this motherboard is making my CPU run freaking hot!
Can some one tell me what their Vcore droop is like.(please check and report using my settings below)
Mine is for e.g. 1.45Vcore bios 1.34 windows 1.31v under orthos.

I have been averaging around -30c with my modded mach II @ 1.64 vCore and 440 FSB. I run into a wall at around 450 and the wall goes away at 460. All in all this board rocks...no complaints really with the exception of available bios updates and a mem controller problem I had with dimm bank1.

I think its an illusion. The P5W-DH I had listed temperatures almost 15-20C lower than CoreTemp. I believe this board reads directly from the chip the same as coretemp does as the temperatures match mine exactly.Quote:

Looks like my A1-B1 memory slots doesn't work correctly. Random freezes and I can't restart it - I need to unplug PSU cable to power up it again.
My Corsair 6400C4D works fine only in A2-B2. at least it looks like.....
Vdroop: looks like digital power control in troubles on these boards...
1) bios - 1.4v, Probe - 1.3v :(
2) bios - auto, Probe - 1.18v
3) bios - 1.2v, Probe - 1.14v
I'm going to check Vdroop with 8pin 12V and 4pin 12V today....
This board runs very hot... can't keep my fingers on heatsinks. 80mm to NB directly - still very hot.
Can't run 8800GTX on second PCI-e: board says "plug to first for correct work"... :(
Attention! Memory voltage: bios - 2.175v, Probe - 2.22v.
My 8800GTX is in the second slot right now and its working fine. I started having trouble with posting while in the first slot. I'm thinking its because its not installed in a case though and without being screwed in it kinda leans to the side.

I believe that the 1st and 3rd slots are 16x
The white or middle slot is only 8x, so I would check for performance loss if video card is in 2nd slot.
I ran mine out of case with no problems and with vapochill evap on gpu as well.
I would try back in slot 1, and just prop it up with some foam or whatever

It makes you wonder if asus really cares at all.
I had an issue with the Beta 0505 BIOS for the Striker.
-Regardless of vcore setting in BIOS, motherboard would constantly put out 1.47V (measured).
I reverted back to factory BIOS (0402) and all was solved.
My p5n32 -3 sli suffers from vdroop badly.
I did the vcore mod, hoping to get 1.6 when I choose 1.6. this worked, but did not solve the droop. upping to higher causes the cpu to heat up too mucjh so vdoop is on the list of things to do, just before I hit the board with the BFH...:stick:
I put it in the case and it works in slot 1 again. BTW I found something really disturbing about the vcore. It might be the reason why readings are so far off for everyone. I'm getting the impression that even with the vcore specified its still wanting to autodetect vcore a lot of times. Here is my reasoning.
When I switched over to air cooling I lost stability at 3.82Ghz and had to drop down to about 3.71Ghz. Now even at that its reading 1.37v instead of 1.39v as before. So even at 3.71Ghz its not completely stable any more. Dropped CPU again this morning to 3.6Ghz and now vcore reads 1.28-1.29v! Even when I bumped BIOS from 1.5v to 1.55v it stayed 1.29v. Those are the exact voltages it picks when VCORE is set to auto. This really sucks hard. I'm going to try the hardware vcore mod and see what happens. Maybe try yet another BIOS and clearing NVRAM again.
The good news. If its really just autodetecting vcore when its set manually then its most likely a BIOS issue that can be fixed.

I'll write them when I get a chance. BTW I did get it to go high once but it jumped all the way to 1.54v actual and I couldn't keep it cool. It was in the 60's idle.
I have found BIOS 0505 to have quircky vcore behavior. I would advise to downgrade to 0402 to see if these issues persist.
I have The Cellshock ram and it booted with both sticks, they relax the timings for first boot so i am told,it seems to run memory better Linked with a divider ,atm i am on 1600x9=3.6Ghz and mem on 3:4 =1066Mhz with 5-5-5-12 2T , this is the pc2-8000 version btw
Yet it wont run 1000Mhz unlinked at the same timimngs???

Anyone using the 405 BIOS? I'm running the P5N32-E. I don't remember it doing it a few BIOS revisions back. Maybe I'll just go back to the one it shipped with and see if it helps. I do know for a fact it was reading 1.39v when I was on water and had 3.82Ghz stable. It now shows 1.37v at the same settings.

I dialed back to 0302, I think, but the only way to flash it was thru the bios using the flash utility and only after a bunch of reboots
None of the utilities (dos) that I downloaded worked.
I think that my problem with the latest was that the multiplier wouldn't go over 12 or something like that.
Guys, I have a problem with 6400C4D in dual channel mode.
Just one of dummy sets: 2.22V CAS=5,the rest on Auto. Mem=800MHz (manual). FSB=400MHz.
Sticks in A1-B1 or A2-B2: able to load Windows, crashes right after desktop shown +- 1 min. Right after this: can't load even POST! Continuously beep from the system speaker. Need to replace sticks to another slots to load again.
Sticks individually: works fine even on 834MHz 3-3-3 ;)
Sounds like my problem I had to RMA my board because of this....

Argh..slight problem guys.
I upgraded the BIOS from 402 to 0505 to test and now the thing wont power up any more.
The BIOS upgrade went through smoothly, i was prompted to press F1.. did so. now there is no post
Hve tried clearing CMOS/using one stick of RAM in the last slot/ taking one GTX out, taking everything out
Ive also tried putting the support CD in there and getting the thing to try to boot from it and restore the BIOS but it just sits there and does nothing :(
Anyone have any idea what I should do now?

I've been lurking around for awhile and reading all the various 680i threads.
It seems that many users are experiencing some power issues such as Vcore undervolting, Vcore stuck at 1.3x or 1.4x, ...etc. Some of these issues may be fixiable via a BIOS upgrade while some of these issues are design/physical hardware flaws.
After playing with the Voltage Overclocking and Overclocking FSB features in the 405 Bios, I can't access the voltage range from 1.48V - 1.57V. With the 302 Bios, I could successfully Orthos my L629A780 3060 @ 3.6Ghz. With the 405 Bios, it would last 15-20seconds and then reboot.
I'm able to run windows @ 3.6Ghz (8x450) stable upto 3.8Ghz (8x475) unstable. My system will boot and post upto 8x485FSB and crash while loading windows. My system can memtest in DOS @ 3880. Even with the voltage problems. Is my current P5N32-E worth keeping? Many people cannot reach > 450FSB.
Running Orthos @ 3.6Ghz, the load temp is 68-70C using a CNPS 9700. The noise is very irritating. Will a Tuniq Tower run cooler than the 9700 or should I stay with WC'ing.

Yes it does. A quick tip: I usually utilize the profile save option then when I do a soft reset using the onboard clr cmos button I can restore from my profile.Quote:

This was at 1.85 in the 0402 bios which is close to 1.8 vCore real.

This is bad
Put the bios of your choosing on a disk.
Go to the load bios settings screen and recover from your floppy or cd rom.
Or reset to default settings...that I believe returns you to the original settings.

SuperPi is definetly weaker on this board even with very tight ram settings:

Did your clear CMOS routine include the steps outlined on page 2-21 of the manual? You might try unpluging the power cord for several hours or maybe overnight.Quote:

what heatsink you're using ? make sure you don't clamp down or tighten heatsink mount too far.. i found that caused my striker not to boot until i loosened the scythe infinity modded mounting http://i4memory.com/showpost.php?p=54317&postcount=1
doh didn't read your had probs after 0505 bios update... if you use the clear cmos switch enabled, ensure it isn't in depressed state when you boot up too

I had my P5N32-E SLI not POST for about an hour after making some changes in the bios. I went through my list and when nothing worked I finally picked up the manual.Quote:

All the BIOSes support the QX6700. You seem to be having a different problem.
My QX6700 is working well on my P5B DLx, but don't want to boot on P5N32-E...
I would check other components, then reinstall everything in a minimal config...
there are plenty of people that are using the QX with these boards.
Ok, I got it to boot finally, but that were very strange...

He is really lucky if he hasn't had to do that in the first place. As far as I recall every single time I've flashed the BIOS afterwards it will not post until I pull the battery, power and wait 1-2 minutes.Quote:

I have never had to pull the battery after a BIOS flash. It always comes back up with no issue.

Weird I updated to the 0701 Bios last night and restarted ...but it woudlnt boot.
Solution:
I had to pop the battery in order to get it to boot but now I have no issues...

So far the Asus P5N32-E has been dead solid. I'm running the 0602 bios. I ran it at 7x 500fsb at stock volts and am also trying upping the multi to find its ceiling as well. I figure on air my options will be limited.
Sure like my new ram as well
q: Shall I buy a P5N32-E SLI or stick with my P5B vanilia (SLI leak:banana: ) ???

Just flashed to 0701 and board rebooted fine.
A question about the HT multie, mines set to 5X. Do you need to play with this thing and if so what does it do???

I've got an Enermax Galaxy 1000 Gamer edition to power the whole setup.
First boot up, I took it stragiht to the BIOS with both sticks of memory. No problem. Of course, it was default 1.8v @ 5-5-5-18. memory is EPP compliant, but haven't tried used the EPP features yet. After a few minutes, the scree went 'crazy' Random characters and colors everwhere. Reboot, go to Windows. Windows desktop works fine. Using Asus Update tool, went to the new 0701 bios. Now i can stay in BIOS indef with no issues.
I've tried a few overclock settings - like stragith to a 1600FSB @ 1.55 volts vCore but system hung at memory test.
So, i guess i need to do some reading and find other folks sweet spots.
I've had a lot of setbacks with the build, but its all in one box now - so now i'm ready to expand the horizons. Has anyone seen a 'Striker results' thread?

All the issues with the Striker validates my choice of its less expensive counterpart.
They share the same problems. But I guess if your going to have issues might as well pay $100 less. Note that I doubt anyone has had any sort of problem running stock off of any modern board. We just get headaches trying to stabilize systems running faster than they were intended.Quote:

Running 500FSB is nothing on this board but timings go to hell at 425Mhz. I get faster at 3.4-3.6Ghz in certain tests than I do at 4Ghz. If it doesn't touch the memory much its faster. They need an option in BIOS to force the strap setting. Plus the vcore regulation sucks. Certain BIOS revisions stick no matter what you put. There is a lot of things mentioned in this thread.Quote:
