asus x1950 pro in the house

just arrived from newegg 2 asus eax1950 pros. $164.00 ea

I'll take some more pics later when my camera is recharged.

so far these cards are much better than my old x1800xl at 641/729.

I'm using ati tool 0.25 beta 16.
there is no support for voltage adjustments at this time so I'm overclocking on default voltage. kinda like running on fumes. :shrug:

my biggest gripe is the memory won't budge at stock volts without getting a black screen. both cards do 641 on the core on stock volts. I'm still waiting on the dfi RD600 board to come out to rock these in crossfire mode.

I think these have lots of potential once we get official 6.10 from ati and voltage adjustments.
I like that they run very cool... temps never went above 58c during testing.
scores maybe a little low do to my crappy memory.

I think its driver related.

Not sure what the hell is going on but I ran the same settings as my best 01 run. 46k with a x1800xl @ 641/729

down to 39k x1950 pro 641/702
any ideas?

Current ATI 80nm cards are a letdown. Not because of the RV570 chip, but because of the PCB Layout. You can read all about it at VR-Zone, they recently did some Voltmods to a Powercolor x1950 with less than steller results due to the Digital VRM / crappy PCB.

I just received my asus x1950Pro today as well from newegg, but I ran into some problems. I downloaded the 6.10 cat from ati's webpage, but it said it the drivers were incompatable with my operating system.. So I tried 6.10 beta and it worked fine..

Did anyone get the official 6.10cat working with the x1950 pro ?

I just used the cd that came with the cards. Its kinda screwy. i couldn't get either beta or the official 6.10 to work. I'm trying the link shown here now. brb

I dled the specfic x1950 pro driversI posted earlier it installed fine then I tried to install official 6.10 but I get the same hardware not found error. I used drivercleaner and started from scratch but no go. Any luck?

can you install ati tool 0.25 -16 beta and show us the clocks you are getting?

hell no! That would be seriously disappointing. I would say these would do around 8-9k 3dm2006 in crossfire mode with official drivers. there are some reviews where they test in crossfire. http://www.trustedreviews.com/articl...ge=8520&head=0

The 6.10 beta seems to be working. Also, I couldnt find the overdrive option in the CCC. I tried playing BF2 and sometimes it would crash to the desktop..

Here is ati tool showing my clocks, I tried overclocking it, I raise it 1 mhz, set clock and ati tool crashes. Is there anything special I need to be doing to overclock this thing?

You could try open processes and kill all the ccc running in the background. I would only adjust the core because I get the same lockup you get when I raise the memory. both my cards do 648 core on the stock cooler and voltage.

as for the craossfire dongles. I called asus about this. They say there are actually 2 scus for the eax1950 pro one says crossfire edition on the box. all it means is it comes packaged with the 2 dongles. they sa they did it this way to keep the price down. thats why it was $164. The crossfire edition costs about $10 more. so dumb imo just charge 175 and end the confusion.

well I already ran 06 and 01 and you can see the images.
I can tell you 03 was 17k and 05 was 10k approx.

I can tell you now that the mem wont budge without locking up. these are samsung K4J55323QG BC14 gddr3 1.4ns http://www.samsung.com/Products/Semi...K4J55323QG.htm

samsung rates them at 700mhz I can't clock them higher without voltage options and there are none in ati tool and I dont have soldering skills. :shrug: even if I check disable mem timings in ati tool I cant push it any further.

I'm not really impressed to tell you the truth. Asus doesn't bundle the crossfire connectors. Then there is no official overclocking support through ccc so I'm using ati tool beta 0.25 16 but no voltage options available.
cooler takes up 2 slots but doesn't extend all the way to the pci slots so there is no exhaust.(see msi version) it is quiet though. this card is right on par with my x1800xl. but then again consider the price. I paid $370 for x1800xl when it came out. this is $164 not really an upgrade except my plan was to use them in crossfire. My advice, wait for nvidia 8000 series and watch ati prices fall some more. Also this digital VRM PCB needs to mature a little more.

hmm? I'm confused. Asus sets the mem clock at 702 default /1404.. I never touched the memory clocks in ati tool. its still 702/1404

theres no 2808mhz

I'll bench it at defaults tonight @3500

What should I do? Should I hang on to these and see if better drivers come out and run them in crossfire or should sell the cards and get a x1900xt or x1950xt because by the time I get a crossfire board these will be dirt cheap.. I spent about 330 bucks on these 2 cards and I'm not really seeing much better performance over my old x1800xl but the plan was to run in crossfire. I can't overclock the mem and I think because its an asus bios ....I can't install official 6.10!!!

I was thinking flash to stock x1950 pro bios and see what happens but I don't know where to get one. any thoughts? whats the best card I can get for $330 bucks nowdays??

I tried a could of Sapphire X1950 Pros in Crossfire for the heck of it. With my CPU @ 3.7 I get the following in 3dmark06:

Cards @ 620|700 = 9306

2=3674
3=3946
CPU=3292

I did use high performance driver settings and did not use plus LOD tweaks.

So far I've had 2 x ATI X1950 Pro in my hands (thought not at the same time). Powercolor and HIS. Both cards have a very good cooling. They seem to clock almost the same too.

Powercolor stock speeds -> 3D Mark scores
2001 -> 37,5k
2003 -> 17,5k
2005 -> 10,6k
2006 -> 5,4k

E6300 @ 3GHz, RAM 430MHz 5-5-5-12
The mermory overclocks very well and gives you a nice performance boost. Overclocking the core on HIS X1950Pro is very poor, considering its high stock clock.

EDIT: please try highering the PCI-E bus speed, it will give your X1950Pro a nice boost on overclocking the core. I stuck to 105MHz. With 115MHz I could get almost 20MHz more.

mine x1950pro scored 11600 @ 620/1450Mhz ... Use Atitool beta16 pre5 + 6.10 official ;) create new profile and leave the services alone...

i have a couple of reference cards, the cores seem stuck at 601 and the memory at 736, any higher and i get a vpu recover :(
i've only tested on the badaxe so far, so i've only been able to push the pci-e to 109MHz which made no difference

Overclocking this card gave me sometime weird lockups. Make sure to disable "ATI hotkey poller" service in msconfig, it's really holding back the card.

You got 11600 in 3dmark06 with a X1950 Pro @ those clocks? Grats.

My 7950 GX2 @ 603|800 only does 10.7k in 06 on a 3.7GHz E6600.

Hmmm...interesting thread...I recently purchased a Sapphire X1950 Pro.
Searching the web I found out:
ATI has 'special drivers' for this card, you can't use the standard Cat's
ATI Tool doesn't work with this card so well
My card will OC to 625 x 780 without a problem...
Runs all benchies except AM03...It runs but won't report the score...I think it's because I am using a widescreen.
Card is pretty quite...If anyone wants to see benchies, justy let me know.

780 mem is pretty good. I feel like everyone and their grandmother is able to get their mem clocked pretty high except me. Is there anything special you are doing to get the mem clocks? so far 648/702 (110 pcie in p5b bios) is stable for me with stock cooler. using ati tool beta 16 and the specific x1950 pro on the ati/amd site. Is Saphire using different ic?

I really don't know what sapphire does different but 780 is only 80 over stock. Board comes from factory with mem at 1400

my 2006 score was 500 points lower.

nature in 2001 was 345.4fps @648/702

then 240fps 648/803.25

i think winclock is bogus.

Samsung 1,4ns should be able to handle 800MHz.
All my programs were able to read out memory speed and stock speed the way I set them. I can remimber looking at loops of 3D mark and see how the FPS increased while overclocking this card. I will have a look at it again in a few moments.

Is it because the x1950pro has a copper heatsink, is single slot
while in comparison, asus board has the arctic silencer on it instead?

Is there anything to do with performance / overclockability, etc.?

I have myself a ATi original x1950pro in front of me, and I'm just wondering

It should work. THe only thing in CCC I could get to work and doesn't even show as an option is the "overdrive" function.

What version of ccc do you have installed? I have catalyst 6.11 beta installed. look for the link and then use 7zip to unpack it. Look for a folder called "ACE" this has the 6.11 beta ccc. Run the exe in the folder called "Driver" to install the drivers.

I think overdrive works for ati and saphire. Mine is Asus and uses a different bios. I think Asus made "special BONUS drivers" so you use their overclocking software with the card. This is not a really big deal to me because I would never use "Overdrive" I wonder if I could flash my asus to ati. could someone save their stock ati bios? Would this even work?

On both HIS and Powercolor cards you can find Samsung 1,4ns RAM. Both cards overclock very familiar, stuck around 650MHz. While I higher PCI-E bus speed I see that I'm able to set higher GPU clock speeds, where at lower PCI-E bus speed the system would just hang when I set a too high GPU clock.
I think the problem is to low voltage on those cards, as both Powercolor and HIS are equiped with good heatsinks.
Let my clear my though why:

PCI-E bus speed (MHz): 105
Maximum GPU clock I could set (MHz): 648
Maximum bech GPU clock (MHz): 648

PCI-E bus speed (MHz): 120
Maximum GPU clock I could set (MHz): +690
Maximum bech GPU clock (MHz): 661

Yeah I tried mvk right away but they dont have it. I'm gonna leave it alone for now. this card is doing fine now. Im using sata so im keeping pcie around 115mhz I'm playing all my games fine for hours at
648/823. has anyone found any way to unlock voltage on these cards without hard vmod?

the highest i've managed to get stable without any vpu recovers so far is 601/736 :(

i asked the same thing in my own thread, but the gecube also is 2-phase +1-phase for memory, think the cards are really held back by the pwm

Why is the Original ATi x1950 PRO like $50~100 more expensive than the
other ones, like Asus, or Sapphire?

Need to know, cuz I'm one of the impulsive buyers who bought the
ATi x1950PRO when it first came out at over $300 :p

BTW, wasn't it in some review that using any of the provided official
OC tools, like ATi tools buggered up this card?

Just got home from work and the two X1950Pros are here. I will go install them and report back later.

Edit: First Run everything stock except the processor of course. OCing in Crossfire will be a biatch because of lack of support. My next run will be E6600@3.96Ghz and One card OCed via CCC OD. I gotta go do some stuff now. BBL.

Where are you buying these cards for and how much because I look at Newegg and the cheapest 1950pro is 209 and a 1950xt for 269? I was considering a 1950xt or a 1950pro now and add crossfire later but dont know which is the better deal nowadays... Any comments are greatly appreciated. I normally use 1024x768 as I have a 6800gt now and am upgrading to e6600 this week but still undecided on video card...

I got mine from Newegg @ $169.99 as an open box item but I got them because they came with the standard Newegg Warranty which is a plus. eWiz had the Asus for the same price but they sold out quick because I could figure out that I could buy the Crossfire Bridge from ATi because theirs don't come with it.

Best I got out of mine in Crossfire was 9.3k with the 6.11b drivers.

Club 3D 1950 Pro

Hello there! I got a Club 3D 1950 Pro

I installed heatsinks to VRMs .... and tried to vmod with pencil. No luck on vcore increase. I am running on water, swiftech MCW60 block... gpu is running very cool.

I managed to OC the core with newest Catalyst (which I think don't support this card yet very well) with AtiTool 0.25 beta 14 to 654 Mhz stable. Mem won't budge at all for now, it either drops to half or comp just freezes... It has Hynix 1.4 ns chips, so I think about 850 Mhz would be within reach.

Im using stock cooling, if i try to overclock GPU over 615 my screen goes black. But no artifacts are detected with Ati Tool or Ati Tray Tools, and my temp doesn't go over 62C so im guessing it's not a temp problem.

So im guessing Crossfire with the X1950 Pro + 965 chipset + Catalyst 6.11 doens't work as it should. Or im just doing something wrong.

I can't wait the get rid of my P5b Deluxe for the DFI RD600.

trans am, do you have mem sinks on your card and what chips. I have 1.4 ns Hynix, and they start to artifact around 1470 Mhz.

And please try that Vcore mod that's on vr-zone review, I tried it with HB pencil, but it didn't post, so I cleaned it and normal vgpu again.

It is specially important to have good air flow around the VRM... Because, without proper cooling, these cards freeze even on stock clocks. Just noticed, because I am cooling it on water and hadn't any air blowing to it. Now there is 12 cm fan ... I hope it helps.

No sinks. I'm using the stock asus air cooler. all i did was remove the stock thermal paste and reapplied Arctic Silver Ceramique. I have a 92mm panaflo in my case door blowing on the card. These are the Samsung ics I posted earlier.

sweet! GOod luck with 10k! I know you can do it! I got tired of waiting for dfi rd600 so I just bought an open box wfi p5b dlx from newegg for $139. I hope to break 10k as well. I'm a little bit noob when it comes to crossfire clocking since I never had the opportunity. do both cards automically clock in sync? or is it completely independent? for example if 1x1950 does 648/830 and other does 648/769 ..does this mean both cards will have to run at 648/769? also what do you use to overclock them?

Damn u got the good stuff!! samsung K4J55323QG BC12 gddr3 is rated for 800mhz mine is bc14 rated at measly 700mhz :(
