i havent been around lately, does the 7800gto have less pipes like the 6800gto had less?

i think i read here, that the GTO was in fact a GTX with only slightly slower clocked mem, and same corespeed (or maybe also a bit slower) what explains the same cooler

This card really looks to be what I've been looking for, not a too expensive but still very nicely performing card with lots of o/c potential. Those cards you didn't think existed. lol

I will order one pretty quick if I do as I sense a possible highered price on these cards or out of stock in matter of weeks tops or 1.1ns mem will be replaced with worse...

Nvidia is really aiming the BIG cannons at ATIs middlerange section atm. Who would win, maxed out X1900XT 256MB xfire or maxed out 7900GTO SLI? :D

Windows does not load after a fresh install WITHOUT a boot CD in my drive. The screen stays black after the BIOS POST. After installing the Nvidia driver, Windows boots also without a boot CD in the drive BUT I can't see anything on the screen, even the F8 menu is not visible (LCD displays "frequency too high). WITH a boot CD in the drive Windows comes up normally. I can see the splash screen and the desktop, I can even play games.

try safe mode, if u can see that. Uninstall and use driver cleaner and then install nv drivers

I've been told on another forum that my motherboard has 8X SLI and since I am using an A64 3500, I will be wasting the entire second 7900 GTO, and will see no improvement in games over a single card in 1680x1050.

x16 sli is really no biggie. Not even worth paying extra for that kind of board.

I just got mine in and have everything hooked up. I get about 6200 in 3Dmark06 off one card @ 700/825, but when I go to SLI I only get about 8500 marks. I do not currently have an SLI bridge (mod'd my DFI Ultra-D), would this make the performance that bad by going to SLI? I think I should be getting in the 11-12k range. I'm also only getting 13k in 3d05 as well. Anyone have any ideas?

See below for my system specs, I also plan on getting a bridge just incase, but still want anyone's opinon on this! TIA

The official answer from eVGA is that all 7900 GTO models come with 1.2ns GDDR3 right now. MSI is currently the only manufacturer using 1.1ns memory that I'm aware of.

The 7900GTO uses 1.1ns Samsung memory.

The official specs for the EVGA 7900GTO show the card having 1.2ns RAM. Just get the PDF for both cards and look. It is the same as for the 7900GTX. the only difference is the RAM speed which will allow for the increased bandwidth on the GTX.

Nice. A slight bump in memory clocks = 7900 GTX SLi for 500usd.

Currently at 710/815. Anything higher on either end and get error message on Riva.

Haven't done anything to the two cards yet. Stock cooling, no bios changes. OC at auto-detect. Using Big_Sam's 85.96 drivers for SLI on 975.

Maybe someone can start an "official thread" on GTO results and list the results at the top? :stick: I'd do it myself but ... I don't think I could keep up with once the flood of cards hit the members. At $250 these seem like a pretty good deal for a game rig.

I tried the GTX timings, but it seemed to make little difference. I have two cards to test, and both would gain only 10 to 15 MHz with the GTX timings. The item I really suspect is the effective voltage to the memory. I have seen a few results, but they seem to vary from 1.81 to 1.89V. So, if you are low or high of the target 1.85, you may see different results.

If you are editing the BIOS, the other item to consider is the delta which is currently set at 50. Of course, each card has a different potential peak core clock. The stock BIOS has the delta enabled which makes the ROP/Shader cores "jump" 27 MHz at a time as you increase the root clock (using coolbits or the like) on GTX based cards. So, as you hit the limits, jumping even 1 Mhz will push the ROP/Shader up too far. That is why some contend that no delta is better. But, the gains of getting your ROP/Shader up a tad are mitigated by the vertex core being lower and not pumping enough primitives against ROP/Shader cores.

I have tested a delta versus a no delta BIOS, and the core clock on the cards I have tested (7800GTX, 7800 GTX 512, 7900 GTX, 7900 GTX SC, 7900 GTO) never went any higher with or without the delta in place. So, using one of the GTO cards I am testing as an example, a 725 core clock was the highest functional clock whether the delta existed or not.

So, some numbers:

3DMark06 with delta - 6415, without - 6331
3DMark05 with delta - 11436, without - 11221

715/716 is a border. At 715, your ROP/Shader is at 702. At 716, it bumps to 729. A 27 MHz bump. So, the 650 (648 to be specific) stock clock is chosen for a reason. Following that, 675 is the next step.The border to this ROP/Shader is only 662. Next up, 702 which kicks in when you set the clock to 689. That's why the 7900 GTX SC was clocked at 690.

All this brings us to the decision to use a delta or not. If you hit any of these borders and your card fails to clock any higher, then your ROP/Shader core is weaker than your vertex. In those cases, a no delta BIOS may help. So, for example, you can clock to 715 but not 716, then you are likely limited by the delta - go with a no delta BIOS. If you are hitting 725 but not 726, then your vertex core is likely the limiting factor - keep the delta BIOS.

Just started playing with my GTO I picked up a couple of hrs ago.

Testing max mem clock, without any tweaks or anything, stock bios and volts I'm currently at 850MHz without visible artifacts. It's also 12mins+ ATITool stable (haven't tested any longer yet). :D

At 860MHz the problems starts tho, 3DMark05 for example passes but I got even slightly slower score than with 850MHz and I think I saw one glitch for like a millisec. Also ATITool only runs for only like a few secs at this speed. Oh well I'm more than happy with 850MHz with stock bios & volts and without any tweaks. :D

Room temp is 22~23C, running with sidepanel removed and a 120mm blowing towards the edge of the right side of the card + dfi chipset so it cools down those rather warm running components on the back of the card and the heatpipes on the other side.

RPG do you get the riva error before you get to 850 at all? Or you keep going until 3d mark can't go. I've never used riva b4. Usually use coolbits. Thanks

Yea RivaTuner wasn't able to pass the internal test starting from 831MHz, but I checked with ATITool for example and it ran fine for 13mins (then I stopped it myself) without errors and just disabled the internal test in RivaTuner through the "Power user" tab and continued and found my max stable speed to be around 850MHz.

OCZ Gold VX 2x512MB @ 255MHz 2-2-2-5-1T 3.3v

Heh, core temp even reached a mighty 58C :p: now as highest temp during the session with room temp ~22C, I love these stock coolers. :D

Still stable... need to check where core craps out, prolly before 720 tho but I can always hope. :p:

Finally I was lucky with a component I bought, I had 700/1700MHz like a goal I really wanted to reach for 24/7 usage and I did! (without tweaking even lol). That's a heck of a $250 deal spent right there (doesn't sound like a jet engine either :p:). Score is a bit low at least compared to the C2D tho but I haven't formatted for ages now and since I installed this card either. :D

I got a similar score (11995). But, with a 700 core and 760 on the RAM and 2.8 GHz on a dual core AMD Opteron 175. The tRRD was the item most suspect after some testing. It is set to 10 instead of the spec 8. I can only assume that this was adjusted to allow the worst cards to operate at spec. It does lower the memory clock 20 MHz, but even so, this one timing adjustment improved 05 scores about 200 points.

Bad news sorta, yesterday when I was happy having reached 700/850 stable and artifactfree I launch FEAR and notice in the menu I have a very high pitched noise and the noise turns different depending on what I had the mouse pointer pointed at. It also appears between the tests when they are being loaded in 3DMark sometimes. I lowered to default clocks and switched dvi port and installed an older version of a driver and it was gone thx god, now I'm currently at 675/825 but I don't really dare to go higher in case the other dvi port was screwed and same thing would happen to this one, as even lowering to stock speeds didn't remove it. 700/850 when I benched before was both artifactfree and stable tho (but wouldn't clock even 2~3MHz higher than that without severe stability drop) Rivatuner's internal test passes only ~680 on core and up to 830MHz on memory tho. Perhaps I should obey these limits or sth if I don't want a chipmunk-like noise coming from my gfx card. :( Who knows if it was a driver related prob or damanged dvi port tho... wish I knew what caused it.

Any ideas? I've googled about 7900GTX high pitched noise and some thinks it's the voltage regulators and some thinks it's just bad caps causing this noise. Doesn't seem to be a cooling issue in my case tho I got a 120mm fan blowing from side of the card towards those.

Hearing the voltage on these has been dropped. Perhaps that limits OC.

Also heard timings were tighter = less OC.

No one has answered as I guess it's obvious - Flash = NO warranty. That has kept me from trying.

Maybe adding some ceramique to the core will help but I doubt.

Well when i got the card yesterday there was something wrong with her when i tried and installed display driver PC reboots in the middle of installation...tried it in tree difrent PC`s and all the same ...doesnt matter which driver either the one from MSI Cd or nvidia.com the result is the same reboot when screen refreshes ...
I even Flashed it to GTX and its all the same ...:( to bad it was the last one we had on stock...
Ah well i guess i`l take Asus 1900xt 256mb :slapass:

Not bad, I shipped mine about a hour ago for rma. Do the pencil mod and get the mem to about 1.9 or so then do a bios flash to like 650/800 and you will be well under way. Why I am waiting for my card to return I have some time to get my watercooling setup at least. Until then I am stuck with a 6600le, which I just ran 3dmark 06 with and scored a blistering 713 points. :p:

My gto died on part of the way through 06. But this 6600le is going like a champ, I put as5 on the hs and now I am ready for some serious benching. Planning to break 800 with this. :cool:

I got myself a GTO also and pushed from 650/660 to 705/770 with stock cooling and no MODS what are the settings that they can go to?

What drivers are everyone using for these cards? I don't know if the ones I'm using (91.47) are hampering OCing results. I am only getting a pathetic 686/780 outa my card.

Im using the xtreme G 92.21 and i just tried to 705\770 didnt try more but wanted to know what are there max OC without the bios flash my card´is the MSI 7900GTO 1.1ns :)

you gain Nothing!
i have tried with a XFX 7900GTX bios but im back with the original bios now.
GTO is faster with the same clock as a 7900GTX because the bios memory timings is lower.
so go for the original GTO Bios.
if you want to gain preformance you need to V Mod the card :)
i have done the GPU V mod and is up to 725MHz stable without artifacts.
thats with 1.55v

im running the mem at 2.0V but i dont know how high i can go.
