This board is basicaly good, though the BIOS is not mature, I think.

I read somewhere it's actually a safety feature to droop. So it's done on purpose.

Nice work as always Kyosen. What BIOS are you using? I got 0065 bios from Asus with all working volts except for droop of course. V-core up to 1.7V which is too much anyway.

So am I right in assuming that this board is nothing special without all these mods? I was niavely thinking I would just be able to buy one, stick a Conroe in and overclock it through the BIOS without having to worry about so many vmods so soon. :(

@kyosen: do you experience any boot problems or problems getting higher than FSB400? the Administrator of the german Forumdeluxx got a P5W-DH, too and he uses a Vapichill.

he has experienced several problems so far: not getting above 400
reboot bug at app 350mhz FSB

My E6700 system freeze below about -150deg-C,
and cold boot needs -140deg-C above.
-80~-90deg-C (and Vcore=1.624V) is enough for 4.5G 3D run, in my case.

I have an Asus P5W DH Deluxe with Conroe E6600 and with my prommy (-35° CPU) impossible to have a FSB > 422MHz ??? The maximum is 9 x 442, 9 x 423 = FREEZE :(

I have modified multiplicator and 8 x 423 = Freeze...:confused:

kyosen, can you change the vcore in that BIOS?
Vcore options are greyed out on our board and OVP kicks in at 1.610 with hard mod :(

It's so harsh to sold the trimmer, set the good value, remove it and take the resistance between bots pins :(

The board retails for around $300 in Japan. I'm guessing the price will be $270-280 when it becomes available in the U.S. Top-of-the-line 975X boards are generally expensive.

Top of the line is where you don't need any mods (ok maybe 1-2 advanced and most likely optional mods only), for example DFI LP series :)

Yes, I call it top-of-the-line. :) I'm not saying the board is perfect. No board is. The P5W DH is not even being marketed as an enthusiast's board.

Intel-based boards make up only about 5% of DFI's production. I know Oskar Wu is a talented man. But companies like Asus and MSI have much more experience with Intel boards. It's something to think about. I'm sure the DFI LP will have lots of overclocking features. Let's just hope it's reliable. At $270-300 a pop, replacing boards becomes very expensive. Also, DFI has this habit of releasing a board, followed a month later by the Deluxe, then the Super Deluxe, then the Super-duper Extreme Deluxe. ;)

The other thing I wanted to mention is that unless you're using very extreme cooling, 1.6 VCore is probably going to be more than enough for most people who have Conroe. I have an E6700 and speak from experience.

yeah the dfi boards are definatly not a reliable option, especially when talking about the expert boards and picky about components, lets hope dfi straightens this out with there new line of boards

I couldn't...I used Ai Booster, though its behaviour was strange.
I set 1.3125V in Ai Booster, and adjust with VR.

My Vdroop-mod method can be set almost as same as without mod,
because I replaced 51k-ohm fixed resistor with 50k-ohm VR.
This is another why I remove and replace resistor.
And I noticed Vcore drop is a little in 50k-ohm state,
so I described that "may" not be necessary.;)

I don't get why every everyone wants all the options handed to them. Up until recently you HAD to vmod to get to the top. It separated the boys from the men. Those who really wanted the big clocks and those who just wanted a faster computer. Puts more "skill", "balls", and electrical know-how into overclocking and less on money and luck.

its one of the big reasons why i dispize(sp) asus. not only do you need volt mods to make their highest price boards run the way they should be out of the box you also need to droop mod them.
this board doesnt seem to require a volt mod although im still seeing people report 0.05v droop which is just retarded.

personally i ordered it from ewiz simply for a placeholder until dfi brings their lanparty series to the scene.
and now that ewiz and their non updating website caused many people to have their orders cancelled im glad i missed out on their stock.
i think im going to wait until a proper board comes out.

Thats going to be a long wait until the DFI comes out bro... Im sure ill find someone to buy this Asus when it comes time to dump it for RD600 :)

i know thats why i chose the asus as a placeholder.
even if i dont get it. i can wait
im still having fun with my #3 record Celeron D (according to CPU-Z search i am #3) and thats even after Proth vdroop'd the P4C and it was a failed mod. and then he refuses to reply to any of my requests for a proper vdroop mod.(which to me is the most unprofessional thing someone can do, i paid for a droop mod and got a pot that doesnt work or he inadvertantly used a very low resistance pot.. it still droops badly, he did admit that he didnt even test it which i thought was unprofessional too)

i had 3 -E Premium boards all three of which drooped 0.05 to 0.07. and i swore off asus.
at this time the Axe and the P5W are our only options, and with the Axe i dont like a $280 baord that you still have to use friggin clockgen with, that and its goofy bios.

but kyosen very wicked results. i truly wish i had the skill you do in doing these mods, shakey hands and having to use a macro lense off of a camera to see those small points really sucks for soldering hehehe.

i can wait, i got other toys to consume my time. and some more xbox's and 360's to mod. :)

Well theres still hope.. The MSI Plat Diamond REV 2B and the Gigabyte. Im not a fan of Asus boards at all, but they will be in a better position when conroe releases with a more mature bios for em. I can deal with an Asus until the DFi releases.

For Vdimm and Vmch, it is same logic as P5W DH, except the location of RT9214.
The location is just near by CHA-Fan4 for mch and Near by CHA-Fan5 for Vdimm.
But, without the modification, my P5B Deluxe can boot into widows at FSB 492.

Vdroop is to stabalise Vcore.

Vdimm: 2.823V, Vio: 3.423V

How High Can the motherboard go for Vdimm without dying?

it is maybe that the Vdroop is very big on the board, with using a Retail E6600 ?

My droop is around 0,02 to 0,04 aber the BIOS setted Voltage esp. 1,7 V (with my SS) comes as 1,66 to the CPU and under Load its get down to 1,62 - 1,63

if i'm not wrong you could pencil the very same resistor mentioned at the start of this thread (50k one).

SOrry, maybye I'm being stupid here, but I can't figure out the MCH voltmod (the only one I really care about atm). All the points marked aren't connect to anything. Is it the RT9214 that controls the MCH? if so, what are the points marked as MCH? Also, how do I measure how much voltage I am actually getting? I assume I don't have to "fly blind".

Can anyone spoonfeed me this one? *shame*
