The 1GB version does not run cooler, however for the slight price difference and double the GDDR memory, I would say the obvious choice would be the 1GB version. And also, I can assume you game on a 1920x1200 resolution, since your using a 24-inch screen, so it might be able to manage faster framerates. I would say get the 1GB version, but don't expect it to be what you would say twice as fast in comparison to the 512 model. It's better too pay a little but more now, and futureproof yourself in case you get a larger monitor or games utilize more of the memory bandwidth, then to buy the 512, only to realize in a year you must pay $300 for a new card.

So then which one should i get? the 512mb version or the 1GB version?

Yes, i would like to save some and get the 512mb version. But i also heard that the 1GB version runs a little cooler also.

How much will i notice the extra 512mb when i crank up the AX and AF? Will i notice it much?

Yea, im going to get it. The only reason i was put off from it was the burning red color. It would clash with my black/blue scheme ;p

But i guess i can live with it. Next year i might build a new monster anyways.
