That will a big turning point, but it might also have bad latency so high frame rates might not happen. It can be an issue for CPU right now going...

I could not get one this morning. So I might end up waiting for big navi or to see who has the unlocked bios for the 3080.

Vega 56/64 do xfire. They were supposed to do quad, but that driver never came in. The 570-590 were the last mid range cards to support it. The...

Big navi might do xfire still, maybe even quad. It wont be useful except for open class 3dmark, but it might happen.

I was looking forward to big Navi, but after waiting 7-8 years for a high end card to come out I think I am going to jump ship to the 3080. I am...

You cannot not overclock the card. The boost will do it for you until you hit whatever arbitrary wattage limit or heat limit. With the 12 pin the 8...

Dont do that. The pig tails dont change the max output of the 8 pin to the PSU. The only time it is OK to use the pig tails are with 6 pin or power...

I would guess the good cards use the 12 pin or 3 8 pin and you want to run only cables directly from the PSU and not use the pig tails. You can...

ATi doesnt exist. AMD is the best CPU again to the point that intel is not competative without liquid. Nvidia just put out a set of 400W cards on...

I don't think my 2500k is golden but I'm not sure how common 5.0GHz is. It runs at 5.0Ghz on a H80 and H100 with ease. It's not stable above 4.8GHz on air.

Currently the best in terms of performance per watt is a 2600k, and that's only going to get better once the Z68 boards come out since you won't need a discrete graphics card. If you're going to join a GPU DC project also, the Z board won't matter as you'll have a card anyway but it sounds as if you want to keep things cheap.

If a 2600K is to expensive, look at just the 2600 with a H67 (if you get a Z68 you can still bump up the multiplier 4x, but again, a bit more expensive). For either setup you'd only need ~4GB of RAM, any old HDD you have around, and just about any PSU that can handle the graphics. (although it might be smart to get a silver/gold/platnium rated PSU) This will be sub 200W full load without graphics if you're careful with your voltages.

Haha, it's all good. Yeah I saw that you had mentioned that on WCG after I sent you the message. No worries, but if you ever get the urge, you know where we are.

    Hey rubber5,

Saw that you joined WCG for supercomputing week, and when I saw you had 2 470s thought I might mention GPUGrid. If you're interested, post up over here.

    Thanks for the help!
