Question. I have this old enameled cast iron tub I broke up in our house. (Remodeling bathroom) I want to melt it down to make cast iron cylinders for transformer cores and cast iron discs for a generator. I plan to make a solar furnace. My question is, what gas should I use to prevent oxidation of the molten iron from the atmosphere? nitrogen or something more nobel, like argon?
