I've been compiling MacBook info on my website:

macbook.wiredby.com (http://macbook.wiredby.com/)

Lots of links to reviews, photos, cheap parts, and so on. Enjoy! :)

Bump, does anybody know if the MacBook's CPU is soldered in?

IIRC, it is :(

How about the MBP's?

EDIT: both are soldered in :(

Guess I'll wait for legit Merom MB/MBPs

Also, the battery, anything better out yet?

I'd imagine so. Keep in mind that the new MacBooks use a different optical drive format - 9.5mm instead of 12.7mm. They are smaller and slower than existing drives (almost all modern laptops use the 12.7mm format). So don't go buy a Pioneer DVR-K06 or something like that because it won't fit. I'd imagine that they will add a faster model (8x) and dual-layer capabilities in the future, so keep an eye out for aftermarket drives like that. A good place to get aftermarket drives is UltraDrives:
