View Full Version : Radeon 9500Pro/9700 non pro
Hi,
Just wondering what the difference is, both look/have same specs + all 8 pixel pipeline, 275 core, and 270 memory (i presume this is 540)

9700 = £185
I nearly have enough for the 9500 pro but can wait and save up more for 9700 if its better

EDIT - As far as I can see there is no difference between these two cards unless im misisng something, also the Abit Siluro GF4 Ti4200 OTES card i was planning on getting is faster on memory (550) and is £140, is the 9700 better tha nthe 9500pro please?

9700 has the 256 bit memory bus the 9500p and non pro have a 128 bit memory bus as does the 4200..... I would think that difference would make a large difference....
is it worth the extra money though and about 2 weeks wait?

I would say so
Don't buy the ti4200 as the radeon beats it easily
You can oc the 9700 above 9700pro stock speeds
so the only difference is memory bus, it is a big difference and worth another £40 quid, thanks for your help,

I have just got a Connect 3D Rad9500 Pro (£140 all in) from OCS (http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk) and it whips my old MSI 128MB Ti4200 clean out of the water!!!!!!
Stock Rad9500 Pro running Cat3.2 and lower CPU speed of 2.24GHz gave me 13340 Onions as the Ti4200 gave me a max of 14.1K with CPU @ 2.36GHz and oced to 288/573.
The IQ on the Rad is fantastic far far better than the GeForce engine and get some wonderful detail in games. The drivers in terms of ease of use is some ways are pants but in other ways far easier to use.
Attached a piccie from Rallisport challenge @ 1280*1024 4x AA and 8x AF that was silky smooth and looked simply amazing.
It may sound Like I am a FanATic but i'm not honest i've had the last 3 generations of GeForce (Asus GeForce2 32MB first card) and liked a change and boy is it good :)
The Rad9500 Pro is a steal....

LOL, currently dont have the money, i did but then i got a guitar but i will have money for one by the time they are suppsoed to come down in price

As mentioned earlier, the 9500Pro does not have the 256ness, and I would get the 9700 just for the extra bandwidth. I feel in time, the performance difference between the 2 will be greater and the 9700 should start to pull away. OC'ing is a moot, because they will both probably OC the same. The main difference, and a large one at that, is the 256bit architecture, compared to the 128 one. I would say it is definitely worth it, but I have no clue how much 40 punds is. Over here in the states you can pick up a 9700 for around $230-240 with the 9500 Pro around $190. That is more like a $40-$50 difference, and last time I checked the conversion rate it was a like $1.5 - 1 pound, or around there. If the difference is more than 80 USD, forget the 9700 and go with the 9500Pro. :)
Cheers, I wil lgo with the 9700PRo bercause of the higher core and memory clocks and also because it uses betetr quality RAM and therefore wil lOC higher ;)

correction: the 9500 non pro has the 256bit bus (at least the one that uses 9700p pcb) I have a saphire 9500 np that i softmodded and it has the same exact specs as the 9700 p now. Well it does have slowere memory chips that won't clock past 310 but its 256bit and with all pipelines enabled its the same card as 9700p. Now that is a steal. 17000 wdmark with a $140 card.:toast:

My 9500 np had checkerboards I couldnt get rid of. Oh, and I thought the discussion was 9500pro vrs. 9700 nonpro. I understand the 9500np talk, but you went on to say you were getting the 9700pro, bigger price difference than the 50-60 we were talking about before. I picked up a 9700np for 225 or so vrs. the $185 9500 pro. I'd get the 9700np, save some bucks... the price probably wont drop too hard making you feel burned as there is quite some room between it and the pro and 98xx series already. Biggest thing is as said before, with thee 9700np you are getting 8 pipes that definitely work and the 256 bit mem... only difference is clock speeds which you can always work on. I got samsung chips on my 9700np, same as 9700pro, and even 9800 I believe. Well, flashed my bios to a pro version and now I can OC (no clock lock). I feel I basically got a pro with a np bios.
