I have a 1.55v mod on my 7900gt and pencil modded the 80k switching frequency resistor to 45k. I put my 7900gt back to stock speeds and my two monitors that are connected to my 7900gt just die while my TV that is connected to a 2nd pci video card stays on. Any clue which is at fault the voltage or pencil mod? Thanks.

1.55v mod should be used only if the card can hit 700-720mhz+ on the core and only then does the freq mod come into play as you pass the cards switching freq limit.

Also I see your running a vf900 at 70c in another thread thats alot of heat IMO for a GT as Im sure the Vreg/Mosfets where at 2x's that temp :(

hmm :( i don't know what to do, this is my second vf900 and they both seeem to hit 70deg. I'll try to put my card into my friend's case and see how it goes. Well my friend said that doing that mod would increase the stablity guess not. I'll erase the pencil mod and see if it will do anything. Also I was trying to hit 670 and stock mem. Had to lower the memory inorder to get rid of the artifacts in ati tool. Everything is ok just that seems like the 7900gt disconnects or something. My monitors just blink like when my computer is off

Sounds like the memory voltage regultors, I have the same problem. I just ordered a 80mm thin Zalman fan to put on the back of the card over the regulators and MOSFETs. If that does not fix the problem then I will need to RMA the card. BTW, I have a NV Silencer 5 on my XFX 7900GT and 1.4V mod running at 670/1740MHz (had it up to 685/1800MHz but that is where the problems started).

hopefully the exhaust i got would help cuz it is pretty hot down there.

:stick:

Get better cooling. Vf900 = bad.

I have VF700cu and i hit 69-70 after running ATItool for 20-30 minutes but while playing bf2 for a couple hours, only hit 60 degrees so i count that as my load temp but anyways i just ordered a masscool VF1-plus and it should keep load around ~50 even running atitool :) idle for me is 42C with 1.5 volt mod with pencil mod for memory and switching frequency. I also got a PCI slot fan card with 2x70mm fans blowing on the front of the graphics card, which helps keep the PCB cool not just the GPU and RAM.

even with the 1.5v mod on stock cooling, my load after 20mins is only 70*c.
going water soon though.:D

basically it sounds like you have tried too much on the card. i would drop the vmod down to the 1.5 or 1.4 one before it kills the card good and proper.

well I got two other cards. Not even sure how you achieve those temperatures because so far they all idle at 50 for me. But yeah ill probably end up dropping it and just wait for water, so far air cooling hates me.
