Im gonna use it on a ti 4600 card... I can't find any 169w pelts which are 40x40mm, but all 80w are, so im thinking that an 80w pelt would need a smaller waterblock and be easier to cool... but i might be wrong...

You can get 172W TECs, they are all 40mmx40mm, IIRC.

Yes but they need 24V :( or do they work with 12V?

They will work with 12V, and should work quite a bit more efficiently than they would work with 24V. It would be a good bit better at 12V than an 80W at 12V in any case.

next question :)

Will a 172w 4x4mm pelt with good cooling result in lower temps than a 169w 12v pelt which is 10x10mm bigger then my cooler? and if so, is dangerden the best place to gtab an 172w pelt?

In terms of temperatures, that threally depends on your particular setup. The 172W at 12V will transfer less heat than a 169W at 12V, but it will also generate much less heat....

All of the 172w pelts are 24v, but you can get a MeanWell 24v 12.5a power supply for about $125.00. If you are going to only run a 4600 with it I suggest you get the MCW50-t from Swiftech. They come with a 80w pelt and are universal for a 9700 or 4600 Graphics card. If you decide to upgrade later you can always just puy the 172w pelt like I am and go from there.

thing is, i have a 169w pelt atm with a 40x40xmm waterblock. Problem is the pelt is bigger than the block, so the entire are of the tec isn't covered... thats why im asking bout the 80w / 172 w tec's

I see that makes sense. You could use a cold plate to cover the entire pelt, but from what I understand you loose cooling capability as you add cold plates. I guess you have a couple of choices. Either get a new pelt, new block or add a cold plate. Don't seem to be much help huh! I ordered mine from DD yesterday It will be here tomorrow. They order there pelts from TE technology (http://www.tetech.com/) I believe. You have to order a $100 min. to order from them, so you might as well order from DD. If you are going to buy a PS don't order from DD. Go to the Meanwell site and look up their cust. service # and call them for a dist near you. Like I said I found one here in vegas for $110 for the 24v model and DD doesn't sell that version. PM me if you need the number of dist or anything else. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Knight is pretty knowledgeable about tecs I don't think he will steer you wrong!!!

Well, thanks for saying so ;).

One thing to keep in mind though: For a 24V TEC, you do NOT want a 24V Power supply. The peltiers element is most efficient around 17 or 18V for a 172W TEC, since at 24V, that is when the heat transfered through because of the peltier effect is the same as the heat that conducts back to the cold side from the hot side.... Past that, the TEC just gets hot on both sides, which is why that's the maximum voltage. At about 70% to 80% of Vmax is where TECs are usually the most efficient, so if you get a 172W, 24V TEC, you might want to look into an 18V Supply.
