Does anyone know how to make a fan controller for a 12V 4.5A Fan?

The max voltage regulator available is the LM338T but that can only take up to 5A. But at 6V the FAN draws more Amps than when it runs at 12V.

Any ideas anyone?

I would have a look at the datasheet see if there is any application hints for higher amp loads as there is for the lm317t. Other that that have a look at switching regulators

At 6V the fan draws half as much current as at 12V:)

Think PWM...
