sounds like you may need to slipstream i975x drivers into a WinXP SP2 CD. google for a guide on how to do this....then install with that CD. let us know how it goes.

good idea , maybe he could give "ultimate bootcd " a try to see a little bit more where the conflict comes from . just guessing..
you can dl it everywhere..

I asked Aopen Europe 4 weeks ago about merom i975Xa compatibility .
this is what they wrote (you know it ) :

Dear Armin,

As this CPU is expected somewhere in September, we can not confirm that it will or will not work.

Kind regards, Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Met vriendelijke groet,

Since you're running a beta BIOS, have you tried any other version?
If Merom can work in at least some laptops at this point I really can't see why it wouldn't work with this mobo.

Not really :) I have a P4-M here, and when I put that in a P4GPL-X it says : "Intel uCode missing" and it just boots and works fine (apart from setting the Vcore to 1,7V instead of 1,3V)
And yes I bet the problem is minor, it already boots so the CPU is already working. The problem is that the Aopen won't boot from any device..

EDIT:
WWWWW seems to have same problem with a Yonah cpu :) http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=95834&page=5

I have also tested Merom in the Aopen 975 board and I get to the same spot.

My PCI diagnostic reads F5 and F9

It gets to the very last part of posting info before it load NVRAM, we never see that message that would normally come up with Yonah CPU.

Good morning Hicookie:
It looks like the BIOS is chocking on ACPI service which I believe is the south bridge interface. You may want to disable all the hardware in the BIOS to reduce PCI conflicts and try turning PLUG and PLAY OS On or Off to see if ACPI gets assigned another IRQ or PCI buss #.

From what I see, all these AOPEN boards seem to be real crap.

EDIT: What south bridge is used?

hicookie
04-18-2006, 03:41 PM
SB is ICH7

freecableguy

Ich7r?

proth
04-18-2006, 03:53 PM
Well that's been around since the 945, so it should be supported. I would keep an eye on what resources the BIOS allocates to the ACPI controller, which apparently isn't returning back anything line vendor Id, etc fron the PCI init.

EDIT: It may give us more clues if you take a pic of this board posting when running another CPU to see the PCI assignments/IRQs and device init order.

no "r",support ide raid ,but no sata raid.;)

That's probably why the raid controller grabbed 5:2 IRQ 11. Not managed by the ICH7.

Can you take a pic of this mobo posting with another processor the see buss ordering and IRQs?

EDIT: Not familiar with that BIOS, but you should disable any power management functions

okay well about the fsb issues i have only had a merom in a laptop as of yet and i cant say that i have had any issues with the other one. now i know that i can run a conroe that is normally a 1066 at 1333 with stock cooling on a badx board you have to understand i dont have access to all the cool boards and cooling stuff that yawl use. I also dont have the ability to do all those mods that you all perform on your motherboards. I am going to assume that when i get the merom in a aopen board and i am going to see if i can unlock the fsb and see if it will boot with a 1066 fsb which it should i would emagine being all the merom is, is a conroe in a diffrent form and the fact that the woodcrest is nothing more than a merom with a 1333 fsb

Any update on how newer merom ES' have been faring vs the FSB wall that many yonah/merom are plagued with?

I jumped onto Yonah and have been very pleased thus far, but I am not sure if I want to just update to Conroe entirely, or just hold off and pickup a Merom a few months after July. Maybe RD600 + Conroe .... dunno :o

Thanks... it would be nice for them to put out a bios that works out many of the kinks in this board, there are many threads listing them and the fact that it is the only enthusiast MODT board means many are stuck with it. I would definitely use AOpen more if they righted these issues, otherwise I'll chalk this one up as a lesson learned and move on.

I game mostly, and though Merom/Conroe are even better CPUs vs Yonah, I will likely be video bottlenecked before I even hit a CPU bottleneck. I think ill hold off on Merom/Conroe, then go crazy on an R600 instead when it comes out. :)
