Am I correct in my understand that DX10 cards will not be out until 2007 or whenever Vista ships?

I'm hanging on for dear life with my 2.5 P4 / (newly purchased) 6800GT AGP. I was all set to go the Opty 165 route when Conroe reared its impressive head. Now I'm looking at a wait for conroe, then having to purchase a DX9 card 6 months (?) before DX10 parts come out?

I know, I know: That's how things work, but I'm just wanting to verify what I think I know. Upgrade to conroe w/o my AGP 6800gt means buying another DX9 card ahead of the DX10 parts becoming available... ah well. That's what ebay is for.

:welcome: to XS! :toast:

You are correct, DX10 is for Vista only in its current implementation. However, the DX10 cards will be backwards-compatible one way or the other (ie drivers). As for the rest, it's entirely up to you. Things are going to get clearer along the way and Conroe isn't coming yet for a few months. Best of luck!

Just out of curiosity? Will you be able to run DX10 on WinXP? Will you be able to play a DX10 game in XP. By this I mean not play a DX10 game with backwards DX9, but true DX10?

No, Microsoft is not releasing DirectX 10 for WinXP or lower
