I run folding 24/7 and the cpu meter is always pegged at 100%, but the kernel (choose Show Kernel Times under the View menu in Windows Task Manager) is always idle until I start doing something. The image below (sorry for the bad jpg) shows the processor pegged at 100% but the kernel doesn't kick in until I start playing BF2. I'm trying to understand if kernel times are part of the CPU compute cycles. I'm guessing the answer is yes, which leads me to my next question.

When running these cpu burning programs like P95 and CPU Burn-In, none use the windows kernel. Knowing so, is that truly a good burn-in? Shouldn't the apps not only drive the cpu usage to 100%, but also the kernel usage to 100%? wouldn't that be a true test of stability?

Well, the kernal would be the OS, so perhaps it's because BF2's use of directx, while those other proggies only involve their own programming?
