yep, been waiting since they said it would be released. I'm a mustang guy, and this is just sweet. BUT, I think they should have reduced the weight a bit. I mean hell I know its a 5.4L SCed, but 0-60 in 4.5..... well a svt cobra can do that. i was hoping for like 4.3s 0-60 or so. Still nice though.

you need almost 300lbs less to achieve that acceleration

true, but the gt500 is only 116lbs less than a 1996 chevy impala ss, which is a BIG 4 door sedan with a 5.7L engine. something seems off to say the least. I think they could lighten the gt500 a bit.

1998 ford mustang super stalion:

5400cc
545bhp @ 6000 rpm
495lb-ft @ 4750 rpm
4081lbs
0-60mph = 4.3s
0-1/4 mile = 12.8s @ 112mph
top speed = 175mph

my dad has the money down for one..what he is pissed about though is that they marketed it as a 40k dollar super car...and now they are saying expect to pay 10k over MSRP...also the fact that it doesnt have an independent suspension makes a saleen mustang with the superchargers much better for track racing. the convertible does not come with the stripes across the hood or the roll bar which is why my dad is getting the coupe

convert isnt ugly tho, and tell your dad to drive down my street when he gets his coupe!

the roll bar in back and the stripes down the hood and trunk would have looked way better

Wait a minute, something is wrong here...

Now I don't have actual numbers yet but I can give estimated numbers based on my mods and what others cars with the same type of setup run:

5.7L
360hp @ 6000rpm
350lb-ft @ 4500rpm
3400lbs
0-60 = ?
0-1/4 mile = 12.5 @ 110mph
Top Speed = ?

I don't really think they paid much attention to the weight of that car when they were building it...heck my car isn't any smaller, may be even slightly larger than a Mustang.

your car is 600lbs less. the 5.4L engine is very heavy.

It is, but there is a lot more to a car than the engine. What i'm saying is look at what you can do with a lot less power...

i find it VERY hard to believe that you can do 12.5 in the quarter. just judging by this:

1999 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am 30th Anniversary
Displacement: 5665 cc
Horsepower: 320 bhp @ 5200 rpm
Torque: 335 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm
Weight: 3617 lbs
0-60 mph: 5.3 sec
ΒΌ mile: 13.9 sec @ 104 mph

He's running full slicks. Or he's lying. One of the two.

EDIT: Or at least a good set of drag Radials, like Nitto 555R's. And either way, he is most likely 1) very good on the holeshot and 2) powershifting.

Yank SS3600 converter and drag radials...yeah it is possible. This isn't a stock auto ;)

I'll see how close I can come to hitting that goal after some tuning.

SOUL, ever think about slapping a ProCharger on that beast, I mean come on, you have got it build for the horsepower, why not make those poor tires cry.

I love forced induction, and honestly i've always liked the Prochargers if I ever went that route...however, not on this car. Sure I could do that but it would kill my mileage and i'm building a street NA cruiser. The converter I have chosen would also be way too much for FI, I would need something much tighter, around a 3000 or so stall speed. Also I could only run a max of 9psi intercooled without worrying about blowing the stock bottom end, though with a good FI cam grind I could crank out 500+ to the wheels easily (600+ crank) with that setup.

Maybe if I change my mind about my goals i'll look into that. But we're talking about 6-7+ grand for that. I had planned on NA / N20 to leave mileage/driveability untouched yet still have a big secret weapon to use when I need it. Not to mention being about 5 grand cheaper all said and done. With a cam and N20 I can still hit up to 400rwhp NA and in the mid 500's when I want to with no change in mileage or driveability. Plus I can take all that extra cash and put it in the rest of the car. I still need suspension and brakes which are next on the list.

I still want Eleanor from Gone in 60 sec. '67 Shelby GT-500 Its my dream car:D

another ? Soul, With that extra cash, you should put and independant rear suspension on it.

Me and my Uncle did it to his LT1, and it only cost us like 1000$, and a little bit of math.

A solid axle is better for hard launching while the IRS is better in the corners...I don't RR or AX this car so I don't think its necessary. I'd lose a little more power to the wheels and lose some straight line traction which i'd rather not do.

If one were to go through that kind of work, i'd just pick up an LS1 C5 Vette for that application, and build the F-Body for the drags.
