I personally don't like the mégane but i don't find it ugly. I really like the Z4, i hesitated buying one, finally i went with the serie 3

Note that i'm talking about the sedan version of megane...
the addition to the rear, was really a very unstylish thing to do...
it doesn't blend with the rest of the car
(the same thing happened with the previous megane sedan aka Thalia)

and as for the z4...
i must confess that i totally dislike that new edge design BMW is trying to implement

if you take a look at the previous BMW series
you can see some of the best and most beautiful cars ,BMW ever produced...

but i feel that the latest models will not be remembered for the same reason

A little OT though, I just saw a commercial for that car, and they're like... We've taken the best from Renault.., yes, the 3 Liter is in there,,, acceleration from 0-100 in less than 4.5 seconds... (and now they got me thinking, hey, I'd go and buy that, considering a standard Dacia costs 200K Czk, this should be no more than 500K Czk, so a great deal for your money)... and then they say: Theres one prob... we haven't manufactured it yet... :(

Oh well...

Are you talking about the Logan? Cause it's available here and I think it started in Romania
Are you sure abour 4.5 sec to reach a 100? That seems too fast to me, a car like that reach a 100 in something like 15 sec, if not more

^^^^ Its not for looks, that is one of the hardest driven Ruf CTR2's out there, the decklid is a giant solid piece, why spend more money to change it when you can add on a wing that is detachable for street mode. The purpose behind that wing is to get downforce from the open air, not relying on the air flowing over the roofline and rain gutters.

Just admit it, its absolutely rediculous and unnecessary. You will never see anything like that on Indy or F1 cars and I can guarantee they would run laps around that car.

Formula 1 cars are in a diffrent league than that, that particular CTR2 is used as a pikes peak car, if you look at all the ulimited cars and ect, they have the wings higher than the roofline (If they have a roof that is..) to get maximum downforce.

oh I may have found another car with rediculus and unncecessary pieces. But regardless, my motto is "If it doesnt make the vechicle faster or handle better, I dont want it." by taking a look back on that Ruf CTR2, the wing infact makes it handle better.

OVERSIZED WINGS DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

a) Increase drag negates pretty much any additional downforce benefits.

b) Disruption in freestream flow over the remainder of the geometry DECREASES downforce generation, which also negates any downforce that can potentially be generated.

c) Increase turbulence slows the car down, which makes the wing less effective at slower speeds.

d) Shift in center of gravity alters the performance envelope/profile such that in a cornering event, it causes the car to become unstable, which means you have to slow down, thus negating the additional downforce.

e) The added weight means that the car is also going to slow down; reducing the efficiency/effectiveness of the added wing.

f) Violates the KISS principle.

Same goes for larger wheels.

Thats right, F1 cars in the 60s(i think), had rear and front wings a meter above the body. Looked even more weird when the tyrell came out, 6 wheels, 4 wheel steering and wings a meter above the body. Won loads of races nonetheless.

they didn't allow them after a year because they were to dangerous (*if a car crashs it realy a weapon, such a wing*).

ps. that is pretty much enough of wing if the rest of the car is desgined well:

Formula 1 cars are in a diffrent league than that, that particular CTR2 is used as a pikes peak car, if you look at all the ulimited cars and ect, they have the wings higher than the roofline (If they have a roof that is..) to get maximum downforce.

oh I may have found another car with rediculus and unncecessary pieces. But regardless, my motto is "If it doesnt make the vechicle faster or handle better, I dont want it." by taking a look back on that Ruf CTR2, the wing infact makes it handle better.

http://www.rally-america.com/Archives/2004/Pikes_Peak/day/data/bdstig3.jpg

I was going to say this is a rally car most likly on pikes peak but the file name says it is so I know it is. These wings are there for a reason. Going up pikes peak the air gets thinner, also the speeds arent the fastest. The over size winds allow for more downforce at these lower speeds. Going around all the swicth backs limits the speed. These cars have no trouble staying on the road, most of which is dirt(not for much longer now.) So to sum it up some times big wings are a must.

Not to sound mean or anything, but who gives a flying :banana::banana::banana: what the oversized wings do. Whether they add performance or not, they're ugly, and that's what this thread is about.

Lol!! :D

That white ford with the monster wings is an RS200, super fast & usually a very fine looking car, minus the snow ploughs of course.

come to los angeles.. there are so many of them you will want to gouge your eyes out with a dull pencil. The upside is that there are more cool cars in Los Angeles than any other place/city in the world. F430's, 360's, Vantage's, Vanquish's, 911's, Boxsters (I see atleast 2-3 every day), and on the rare occasion you see Enzo's and even rarer are the Carrera GT's. What I still havnt seen though is my favorite super car.. the McLaren (Ameritech Imported ) F1. Have to drive to Texas to see those (Ralph Lauren owns 3).

It is a pikes peak rally car, ford something, EVO had an article about it. It is an INSANE car, one of the pikes peak legends.

The ugliest current production car to me is the Porsche Cayenne. Some vehicles, most typically the BMW 5 series, actually get better with age as you get accustomed to their design, but the Porsche just remains pig ugly.

Talking of BMW the 1 series is gormless looking and the Z4 and Z6 both look like a sad fish .. Oh, I drive the BMW Halibut ..really, how does it go around corners ? Oh it Flounders ...

To be honest the recent V12 Ferrari's have not looked much good either, somewhat akin to a Toyota Supra ( 550/575) or a squashed Cayenne ( 612 ) however the new 599 looks a lot better.

Talking of outrageous wings, if you want to see how to do it well then you only have to look at the old Porsche GT1 from a few years ago. That looks amzing but not out of proportion for what it can do.

Andy

hm, rarely have i seen my opinion expressed this well written :D.
i used to be a big fan of anything ferrari made. well used to be. most of the
cars they came up with since about 2001 are fugly and getting worse. i've
been dreading what their follow-up to the 456gt would be... oh my. having
seen all their latest pieces on the road made me turn away. could they
please stop offering those in red? they don't deserve to wear that color.

oh and i wouldn't only pick on the cayenne, while we're at it, the x5, and the
big merc suv aren't much better either. granted the turbo on stilts (read
cayenne) outdoes the others somewhat, but they're following not that far
behind.

i would be hardpressed to come up with any currently produced massmarket
car that actually looks halfway decent. grotesque.

Good points. Imagine how these cars will look in 30 years time ..very very dated.

Here's a picture of a 30 year old car that does not look dated even with 1970's high ratio tyre technolgy.

I am probably in the minority here, but new Jetta is pretty damn ugly. low front, fat a$$, and that stupid thing around the grill that is either balck or chrome.

This: http://alsacorp.com/company/50cent/50cent.htm is a waste of a perfectly good Lambo.

the new civic is kinda revolting too, it looks like a hover car, but it has wheels...

The Carolla, the yaris (both of them), and the FJ cruiser from toyota are all pretty painful to look at.

The new deville looks bad, which is surprising, considering how good the CTS looks.

The Acura CSX is just a Civic with leather, a cd player, and an acura badge, I don't think it's sold in the US though, only us Canucks have to suffer. the RDX is gross too, it would be easier to buy a ford escape and set fire to a large pile of money.

anything produced by saturn, ever.

the ford fusion can't decide if it's tough or luxurious.

on the flip side the G6 coupe looks pretty damn good.

Each to his own,

I personally quite like the new Jetta, much better than before. I like the new Passat quite a lot as well (might that be because we happen to own one... ;). We had a Jetta too... I must say, we had it in "Sportline" interior, which was a million times better than the new Trendline Passat interior... the rear "seats" are horrid!!! They provide no body holding like those of the Jetta... the Passat seats flat bench really...

I must say I quite like all chrome cars (chrome paint), but I prefer white with black rims.

Out of the new cars around, I think the Civic is the ugliest.
