i need some help, i got a .txt file with over 1800+ businesses within 15 miles from our company office, and its my job to transfer it into a excel document so we can use it for business reasons (mailing monthly viruses warnings and tech stuff). if it would be posible for soemone to help me find a way to transfer this info from a .txt file to excel without spending my life copy and pasting.

also if someone could help maybe pull it from an website like http://kudzu.com or http://yellowpages.com to export it into a excel spreadsheet. please.

If I didn't need to pay a little more attention to class right now...

Anyway, the fastest way would be to write a script (ie. in perl) that seperates the fields you need seperated with commas(or semicolons, or anything else really) between them. Once that's done, Excel can do the rest automagically. Just open the .txt document once a comma (or semicolon etc.) has been inserted between every value with excel and it'll take you through the process.

My initial thought is macros - they're programmed in a very VB-like language.

Check out http://www.cpearson.com/Excel/imptext.htm and http://www.google.com/search?q=macros+import+text+file+excel&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official for some help. :)
