just installed an xp1700 dont know stepping or letters. Put on a msik7turbo limited with raid, after booting up i get unknown processor and 1.10 for speed. ON the processor there is a piece of scotch tape by the L11 with a piece of medal or something under it unlocked i am imaging. What is that?? also what can i hurt buy doing a live update of the bios which my board supports

Processor is defaulting to 11 x 100. Generally happens when you first place a new chip into a mother board.

Bios needs updating that is why it says unknown i would think. Go into bios and try to set it to 133 fsb. See what happens

Hope this helps,

Sounds unlocked to me.

I'd flash the bios, change the multi to 14x100 for starters. and bump up the fsb.

I think your bios is your main problem.

You should find some more info athttp://www.digit-life.com/articles/msik7turborle/

It should be fine to flash to a new bios provided it is the correct bios for the board.

I just had a look at their site. Can't you flash the traditional way?

With a floppy?

Instructions herehttp://www.msi.com.tw/html/support/bios/note/award.htm

Good luck

you can flash traditionaly i think but the live is easier and it seems better but it said that if it hung then it would burn the bios up i have two computers so i guess i can try, also the temp is staying at 57 degrees

ok update I am god!!!! no really!! not impressed cool anywayz, i said screw it flashed the bios online and it picked up my proc right, reads now amd athalon xp1700+ and the temps went from 57 to 52 degrees celcius. So i think it worked without the right proc named I had it at 1.63 gig and stable i love my mobo and processor

Hehe. I may need to hook you up with a better heatsink. I don't think that temp reading is right. It ran no higher than 42 a full load on my 1800.

might not be but I am going off fuzzy logic 3 or 4 an overclockers in the bios it says the same thing, i got not a butt load but quite a bit of as on it and the voltage in fuzzy logic says 1.84 for the proc is that a bit
