"Sony plans to release details of its PS3 launch on March 15, according to industry buzz in Tokyo. The announcement would give the company a jump on the Game Developers' Conference set for next week in San Jose, CA, where Phil Harrison, President, Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment, is expected to give details of the PS3 in his keynote address. Sony's new technology reportedly has plenty of "wows" when it was shown to a few gamers in LA last week. Word on the street is the set will sell at retail in the $1,000 range - there's another wow."

if its 1000 bucks theyre doomed anyway. Either they sell few units, or lower the price and lose some money. THATS A BAD SONY :nono: :slapass: Who in their right mind would pay a grand for a game console? especially the parents of kids who want one. They will have to tell their kids santa couldnt afford a damn PS3, so he got an Xbox360 instead. I could build or buy a nicely equipted computer that can do a lot more for the same or maybe a little more.

no way it will cost $1k. I can guarantee you it will debut below $500. It may cost Sony a grand to manufacture initially, but they know they can't charge anywhere near that much.

They can't even spend 1000$ making it. Most people arn't going to buy 550$ worth of games for it, I don't even own 55 Xbox and Gamecube games combined. I own around 150 Playstation games, but it has many good games, they can't count on the developers to do that well again, also, I buy alot more games than most people do.

1000$ is really sick, 500$ is reasonable :D

It looks like the PS3 press conference is just getting started.

More as we get it... Update 16--the wrap-up: The PS3 will launch "in early November 2006 in Japan, North America and Europe simultaneously."

While an exact price was not released, GamersReports claims that a minimum price range was announced, which was nothing "less than 50,000.00 JP YEN" (or "$425.607 USD"). Perform your own up-to

this is stupid. It was always coming out in november in the US. It was delayed in japan cause of newer blu-ray "specs" or something.

I have a feeling that the PS3 won't do to well, I loved my PS1, the PS2 gave me some satisfaction, until I got an Xbox, then I realised that the PS2's graphics were very poor.

The Xbox 360 in my eyes is an impressive console, MS has managed to get Xbox live working perfectly, and 80% of the games are great.

I can't see what the PS3 has to offer to the table compared to the Xbox 360.

This is a stupid comparison, the PS2 was out way before the Xbox, your comparing apples to oranges. To say "80% of the games are great" is just a personal oppinion so thats void too.

PS3 will offer the same quality it offered when PS2 rolled out, gorgeous grhpx killer titles and innovating play, like all consoles do. Plus, grahpics aren't everything. If your old enough you'll remember when the next gen Dreamcast came out. It was killer in the ghrpx dept, had some GREAT titles, and compared to its current contenders, the PS1 and the N64, there was nothing like it yet... still it tanked right into the bottom of the sea.

I would get an xbox360 but I'd rather wait and get a next gen console instead.

The 360 is a nice system I finally got my hands on one this last week. It is nothing Jaw Dropping, but is a step-up. Console Games can finally compare to the quality of pc games... If you think about the technology that these new systems have they finally have hardware that is worth something.
PS3 even if you spend 500-600 on the entire console its not that much considering you can pay that easy for a cpu or videocard for a gaming computer.

Exactly how is an octal-core processor NOT next-gen?

Tri-Core... and not anywhere near as effecient as the Dual Cores we have on PC.

hehe, I wrote that fairly late last night, but I thought dave was talking about the PS3, hence the 8-core statement. :slap:

Yeah, the X360 hardware is nextgen in terms of hardware, but the games that can be produced using said hardware is not, unless you only compare it to consoles, and leave out PCs.

I read it was going to be out in September and £250 but then I heard someone say 300 or 400, I doubt that’s true though.

my modded ps2> blue ray crap.
could this be for legal reasons or illegal reasons i wonder...?
eitherway it doesn't matter, every copy protection system ever made has been cracked and things will continue going this way. the main question is how long it will take for this to happen. the rumor is that they delayed the ps3 to give them more time to work on the copy protection of the blueray disc. this means that they are trying to make it as tough as possible... however it can still be done. anything thats made can always be backward engineered, its just a question of if you have someone skilled enough to do so... and trust me, there are people out there like that.
basically my point is, don't not buy the ps3 for a crappy reason like that, especially if you know that the blueray protection will be defeated shortly after.

i cant see it being anywhere above $600 even with blu-ray theres no way they can expect to sell them at such high prices, unless their banking on it being competition for blu-ray players as well...

that said i wouldnt use a ps2 to replace a dvd player

Wow...

The 20GB will retail for $499 in the US (59800 yen in Japan, 499 euros in Europe), and the 60GB model will retail for $549 (open price in Japan, 599 euros in Europe). Sony expects to ship two million units in its first month of launch, four million by the end of the year, and six million by the end of its fiscal year, which ends in March 31.

BlackX

In Europe 60GB version will probably cost 599EUR because in US it will be 599$. If u r saying that its expensive u have no idea how much its actually worth.
Take a look at PS3 spec http://www.ps3rules.com/. Impressive isnt it? Remember that it can be used not only as a console but also as a home cinema.

Cant        w8 for it!!!
