The gunk is sooo bad it affected the camera TOO!! j/k

wow, I haven't a clue as to how you will clean the little pits where the jets hit...
perhaps try a copper cleaner that is based on a chemical reaction, you know like the ones they sell on TV ('just dip your silverware in and the oxidation is gone in seconds', type thing)... iirc, it is some kind of clear solution... try wal-mart

Looks like he just let whatever was in it dry out, I would let it soak for a bit in some distilled water before I do any sort of cleaning. Just take some type of cleaner like pine sol to it and you should be fine. Don't use bleach unless you like instant corrosion :P

Hey, I used UV dye...my bad?

I told him to use alcohol, it will come out no problem, it's totally soluable.

Bail_w

Let me clarify soaking for a bit : 1-12 hours
I let my block sit in water for 24 hours before I even touched it with any cleaning.
When I cleaned it I used dish soap and hot water
Vinegar is not bleach
UV dye and whatever solution he had in there should come off with ease.

feareast, what will bleach due to it.. if memory serves me right, bleach is a base, and its pretty hard to get copper to react with anything due to its position on the reactivity series.

I had black crap on my block as well. Was using distilled water and 10% anti-freeze. Not sure why this happened. The rad I used was flushed and the loop was clean. I'm wondering if black delrin can leech it's color.

I used pure acetic acid and it cleaned right up in about an hour. Vinegar is about 10% acetic acid so an overnight soak should take most of it out.

Bleach and copper when mixed with create a chlorine gas that is deadly if inhaled. Very toxic.

I used ketchup :D I know it may sound stupid but it's easy to apply to the block and cleans it very well :)

Lemon and salt makes copper shine, but I don't know if it would clean that mess!

Maybe in the U.S. Maxx :D just like your beer is a bit diluted:toast:

I'm still looking for a reason for this.
U.V. dye turns copper black? Time for me to set-up a experiment. Soak a chunk of copper in a solution of U.V. dye and distilled water. Maybe 10% U.V. dye.
How many days/weeks are you guessing?

MaxxxRacer

hmm... dam the EPA or whoever made vinegar 5% in the U.S. I guess they think we cant handle the 10%.. lol.

btw, where did you come across 100% acetic acid?

Malph

I needed it for work to clean contaminated optics.
Bought it from a local lab. supply company. It came in a 500ml bottle.
Their website is incredibly slow.

I had to fill out and sign a document to get it. The fumes are very dangerous.

You could always go to a pool supply store and pick up some muratic acid.... should do the trick and then some

TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK.... I do not suggest or condone this method

I clean blocks with coke. works really well just leave it to soak overnight. then use a toothbrush and clean. just remember NOT to drink the coke after!
