If you have a OS on the hdd already can you create a second partition without reformatting. Using Partition Magic maybe.

oh heheh i thought since you named the prog you knew..

personally i never used 3rd party partitioning software - never had to...

partitionmajic is a great one to use that - like most - have wizards to walk you through the steps needed...

Rule of thumb you want to leave 9-15 gigs open for your C drive and use the C drive strickly for mission critical and operating progs

install and save everything tlse to a separate partition, - if a drive goes bad - it makes it easier to recover the info. CD-R backups help too!

Which version of PM do you have and what OS and filesystem are you using?

If you re-partitioned it yet, just and have it setup as just one primary partition, then open up PM and just resize it by using the slider and pull the partition backward to the size you want. Then click on the blank spot you just made and select "create" partition and then just "format"it to ntfs or fat 32 if you want. Its easy, you'll see once you open the program up.

Does it matter if it,s primary or logical. Anything else i need to know so i can have dual boot system?

This is an example of w98 on a primary partition C and XP on primay partition D with 2 logical partitions for apps and stuff. Keep your primary partitions small for better performance by being on the beginning of the disk.

I haven't dual booted xp and 2k on the same rig so I don't know if you will have issues. I would say load 2k first and then install xp. Xp should find 2k and then include it in the boot list.

If you have problems by putting both OS's on primary's you may have to then put 2k on a primary and then xp on a logical.

You could use the maxtor disk. But if ya want to do be more flexible or use ntfs you could use the PM boot disk. Partitioning first before installing OS is better. IMO

If its a new hdd how do you partition before you can put PM on there. Newbee at this stuff.

OK you haven't installed PM on any other rig right? Because if you had, you could have made a PM boot disk. Then you could just insert the floppy and boot PM off that and do your partitioning.

UPDATE: You can keep it simple, just let the maxtor floppy format your disk into just one big partition for 2k and then install 2k. Then install PM, once PM is installed you can do any trick ya want with your hd.

I have 3 rigs so I can make a boot disk with PM. Is it self explaintory.

Yup. Should be no problem. PM has to be already installed on one of your rigs to make a boot disk.
