Hi,

I bought some Arctic Alumina Epoxy from overclock.co.uk

http://www.overclock.co.uk/moreinfo.php?id=162

Is this strong enough to hold on these ThermalTake Heatsinks http://www.overclock.co.uk/moreinfo.php?id=285.

I was looking up the instructions for applying this, It came in too tubes and it looks fairly complicated, I dont want to get it wrong because I cant afford to replace anythign that gets shorted out via a heatsink thats fell off or incase I break the graphics card I stick hem too. Also, are these ideal to cool the mosfets on the 8RDA+? They look about the same size. I will only do this once I am more confident with really basic things like this.

Lastly, are thses the right set of instructions for mixing it together
- http://www.arcticsilver.com/adhesive_instructions.htm

I know your gonan think Im stupid and stuff but my saturday job isnt gonna pay for a new motherboard or graphics card within a day. I have an old RivaTNT that I can practice applying heatsinks to which I can test to make sure it works properly. Once Im confident, instead of even trying to remove them I will just buy a few packs of new ones. I also have an old Jetway 266 board that I can practice applying heatsinks to mosfets with and changing northbridge cooling, just wana make sure this is the right compound first before I put it on my gf 4 and 8rda+

Sorry its a lot to read, thanks for any help you can give me,

Craig

Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive(AATA) is very strong after you apply it. it'll hold those TT ramsinks no problem.

you may want to look into something better than the TT ramsinks though. i've heard good things about the Tweakmonster ones.

here are the correct instructions for the AATA:

by the way, YGPM.

Cheers Felix, Ive lost count of the amount of times youve advised me. Er, what does YGPM mean?

Cheers,

YGPM = you've got private message

you can access them from the "User CP" button up at the top of the page.

gotta agree, the Tweakmonster RAMsinks are much better.

Got an extra 6mhz out of my RAM cuase of them!

i'd love to get someof those, but they are quite a bit more than the TT ones. anyway, my GF3 came with some that look exactly like the TT ones.

i'll probably wait until i have a good card before i spend any money on it.

My step-dads Hercules GeForce 3 came with ones that look identical to the ThermalTake ones. Its a good card (well, not by todays standards but better than mine!)

I had a go with that old riva, just put exqual amount of a and b on mem and mixed together, splodghed heatsink on, left it for two hours came back and i cant pull the thing off! so it seems to have worked.

Hmm, the tweakmosnter heatsinks http://www.overclock.co.uk/moreinfo.php?id=712 £12
or the new version
http://www.overclock.co.uk/moreinfo.php?id=401 £21

yup, i've got the Hercules GF3. those are actually TT ramsinks and a modified TT blue orb.

anyway, those 2 different tweakmonster heatsinks are for different kinds of ram.

the first ones listed are for BGA memory. it's the square kind like Radeon 9700s and TI4600s use.

the second ones you listed are for TSOP memory. it's rectangular, this is probably what your Riva and GF4 MX use.

here is a quick little linky that shows you what i mean.

Thats a good card. My step-dad bought it when it first came out for £399! My Kingston Memory is BGA. Yep, the GF4 MX i have has the TSOP memory so does the riva. Im surprised at how strong the AATA is!

Cheers,

yup, i like mine. the memory doesn't overclock worth a damn though. i might be able to get more out if it if i replaced the stock heatsinks with some of those tweakmonster ones, but the card isn't worth the cost.
