View Full Version : Getting a whine from my onboard networking...

Asus A8R-MVP

Is this something to be concerned with? I'd previously thought it was my mouse causing the whine when I scrolled with the mouse wheel... but everytime I did that and checked - I was on an Internet page. During a mass download test I replicated the electrical high-pitched whine.

Thanks!

Are any of your components (gfx, cpu, ram etc) overclocked in anyway?

Also, did this "whining" start only recently or was it present from the day you bought and installed the mobo?

Present from day 1. I would have put more pocus on it if I had not between sidetracking by a more serious Catalyst 6.2 issue with my system. It's the same sound you get when you shock you dry flully cat - except tnnnnnnnnnnntttttttnnnnnnnnnnnnnnttttttttttttttnnn nnnnnnnn

Sounds to me like you've got a dodgy PSU mate, try another one out and see if it comes back.

Can't be, I just replaced my Seasonic S12 500Watt with a Forton 600Watt with that includes 60amps on 4 12v rails sicne I was concered about power cleaniness and load.

I hear those sounds on my computers sometimes too. Must be the high frequency of the data transmission.

Well that would make sense. Thanks!

is the whine coming from your speakers or the computer itself? sounds like it might be a floating ground problem...

comes right from the motherboard.
Of course you would only hear it if your computer is quiet to begin with.

Yes straight from the motherboard. I can reproduce it more succintly just running HD Tach. Its somewhoere in the upper half of the motherboard.

I'm a little concerned I got a bad motherboard. It's an alwful lot of electrical whine. And the pitch intensity changes depending on what's happening.
