I have just built my wife a PC so she can play world of warcraft. We both have raid 0 arrays. My PC is overclocked and hers is stock. Her PC boots faster and she can usually get into WOW about 10 seconds faster than me. Same goes for switching maps.

Her system:
Everything is generic except her HDs so I won't list that stuff...only what is important.
VIA Raid controller onboard
36gb raptor and a 74gb raptor in RAID 0
30gb partition for Windows--this is where her games are installed too.
32k stripe and 4k cluster
Virtual memory is on the secondary partition at the very beginning.

My system: see sig
NO partitioning whatsoever on my raid...I think this could very well be the cause of my poor performance.
16k stripe 4k cluster or maybe the 16k stripe size is the cause.
My virtual memory is at the very beginning of a different sata drive...maybe this is hurting me?

Let me know what yous guys think I should do.

why don't you try to different Stripe sizes and see what works best..
on a side note: you might want to look into cleaning out your Registries because your highier computer use might actually be reducing thier efficiencies.. Just a thought...

I am using two different stripe sizes...her stripe size is 32 mine is 16. Cleaning out my registry prolly wouldn't help. Nothing has been uninstalled on this machine.

I was wondering if that is my problem or maybe that I don't have it partitioned. Does having a small partition for windows make booting and loading games faster?

no. partitioning a drive will not make it faster

I sure hate to format again. That is the only way to change stripe size isnt it?

not if you controller supports stripe level migration :woot:
otherwise your screwed and have to format :(
