wow, talk bout tearing it up :slapass: :slapass:

grats to gubb, what type of air cooling did he use? stock?

Well Swedish Winter gave him the Temps he needed..
(virtually the same as Phase temps over there)

ya i dont think that negative ambient temps counts as air cooling lol

should be a different category like frozen air cooling lol

awesome benchmark scores but not really that much better then a gtx

They do but you need to strap a 9500 onto the X1900Xt if you want those types of an overclock ;)

Are you joking? A GTX under extreme cooling and plenty of volts can barely manage 13k. This is 14k with positive temps on the GPU buddy.

I think XTX > GTX 512MB a long time ago :fact:

And much like how the XTX owns the 512mb GTX, the 7900GTX will own the XTX, and the cycle will continue.

This is just how the videocard war works, each company gets their month or 2 to shine, and then the other gets their time.

If the G71 wasn't going to come out soon, even I'd have a x1900xtx though.

Actually I picked up a Pair of X1900Xts already just to increase the rate at which I fold.. ATi cards don't do much good for BSD or Linux Gamers

yeah but if im not mistaken the price owns the 512 gtx as well. I have a feeling the g71 isnt going to blow away the 1900xtx for what your paying extra for it to get it

Says who? Do you have one? Have you seen the official specs? All guesswork.

Hicks now lets not put up a crosshair the second we see Diltech :p:

The 79GTX will undoubtedly beat the XTX, if only because its coming out after. The real fight, however, will be between the 79GT and the X19XL ;)

nnstep... Did you really buy a pair of XTs ???!!!

Yes I did... How else do you think I found the Frame rates for the Reaper mod with TWO x1900Xts in crossfire
(and a crossfire card while I was at it..)

Actually, the real fight will be the G80 vs R600, that's the biggie, and will be the true clash of the titans.

Everything before that is merely opening rounds.

Also Hicks, if anyone thinks NVidia will release a lesser card 2 months later then they're surely niave. Much like anyone who thought ATi's x1800xt wouldn't beat the 256 GTX was being niave as well.

It will definitely be interesting. But as rumours have it, ATI is working on an 80nm counterpart for round two this year before DX10 hits. ATI does not have anything better to do mostly because the r600 is already done, so this kind of makes sense (fills in the gap).

But metro also said they won't be doing FP32 with the G71 which I think is a problem because it is a requirement of SM3.0...

DilTech
02-09-2006, 11:18 AM
It's got a 128bit Floating point precision. Fully capable of FP32 obviously.

FP16 HDR + AA is what the FP16 is all about man. It's the same feature ATi totes on it's X1x00 series as being great. Alot of games use Floating Point HDR, which happens to be Floating Point 16 HDR, and without that feature they cannot do AA with it.

Also, DX10 hits sometime this summer gfx cards-wise. G80 will definitely be first one out the gate, but I'm placing my money on the R600 winning that war, even as a blind bet. ATi have just had entirely too much time working on that chip for it not to be godly!

brandinb

ya its a real shame the current 7800 series doesnt have fp16 hdr +aa

i would say for the price the x1900xtx completely owns a 7800gtx512 but it is only 1k more in 3dmark i wouldnt call that owning i would call that beating with a expected margin

The x1900xt/x is a great card... Like I said before, if it wasn't for the G71 dropping shortly I'd buy one already.

R5XX is GDDR4 compatible...so a R590 is very possible.

From what I've read, the R590 will be the X1900XL, much like how the X800XL is a die-shrunk x800.

I significantly doubt ATi is going to risk another high-end die shrink after their issues with 90nm.

perkam
02-09-2006, 02:36 PM
80nm is definitely coming. The issues were not with 90nm...it was with yield issues on the cards, which they wont be having. More than once source has claimed 80nm may be coming.

Anyways 14k all air, is complete awesome!

DilTech

What issues?.. Can we say 5 month delay of the R520?

That would count as issues.

I know 80nm is coming, but it's rather notable that there's no X1900XL yet, and there's talk of ATi going 80nm. Check answers.com about the R590, it seems to agree with me as well.

The talk of 80nm + the lack of x1900xl kinda makes it rather easy to assume that the 80nm R590 will infact be the X1900XL.

BRiT

The 80nm R590 will be the new high end product and will be paired with GDDR4. Their next mainstream parts will be based on RV560 / RV565.

ATI's issue with the 5 month delay of the R520 was due to a problem in a third-party library layout. It was not related to ATI shrinking their own library layout to 90nm. The 80nm node has identical features as the 90nm node. This is also very different from the shrink from 130nm to 110nm ATI was using. ATI was using 130nm low-k nodes, while the 110nm is only available in non-low-k nodes. It's harder to shrink from low-k to non-low-k. All nodes below 90nm at TSMC are low-k.

Ugh, looks like I will try to hold out til DX10/SM4/G80/R600/Conroe/965X/M2 they should all be released within a month or so of eachother if I am not mistaken.
Does anybody know whether or not Nvidia and or ATI will be releasing any new Intel chipsets by the summer?
This is gonna be hard :stick:

Does anybody know whether or not Nvidia and or ATI will be releasing any new Intel chipsets by the summer? There won't be a chipset available from ATI or Nvidia that will exceed performance of any Intel chipset. i965x will be the way to go when Conroe is released.

As of right now, you're better off investing in a dual core opty with the RD580 and an X1900 or two.

Thought that was voltage leaks?

correcting the voltage leaks caused a 5 month delay.
