Got a new (new for me, actually it's used) opty 146 CAB2E 0546 FPAW, si-120, and thunderblade 120mm. Also put a 80mm silentcat to the right upper corner for mosfets.

10x200 1:1; stock vcore:1.38; vdimm:2.6; load temps are around 47-48.

10x250 1:1; stock vcore:1.38; vdimm:3.4; 21 hours prime stable; load temps are as high as 57 - average 53.

10x270 9:10; vcore: 1.48; vdimm:3.3, memtest stable but not prime; load temps hit 60.

Idle temps are 33-35 regardless of vcore/vdimm.

prime (http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a87/ooztuncer/New%20Cpu/prime1.jpg)

With my xp-90 and winny 3000 (1.58 vcore,3.1 vdimm) my load temps were 44. Is this normal for the opty? I dont think so - what can I do?

I reseat the si-120 4 times(before the prime marathon:AS5, after: apply more AS5; then with ceramique; then more ceramique)!! By the way, AS5 gave better results than ceramique...

EDIT: cpu was not a retail, bought from a person that hits 3ghz prime stable on his wc set-up with 1.55vcore.

yes, opteron's get hotter. Though you should've got a big typhoon.

So, is it common that people hit 58-59 degrees with 1.48 vcore, 3.3 vdimm with a SI-120?

Mine is almost the same stepping.. its almost as hot as yours and it sucks

that made us 3 today, is this specific to this stepping or what :)

Something is fishy, just by increasing vdimm from 2.6 to 3.4 volts cpu temps increased around 10 degrees at the same vcore! Can vtt have that much effect? Whats ur vcore/vdimm? SOOO annoying.

Take that IHS off. It's fun for the whole family and should drop your temps at least 5C (or more). :)

Hardcoreclocker's is quite good.

I agree, remove ihs :)

Can I quote on that cuz i heard ihs removal decreased the temps on wc systems but on air I am not sure... And inexperienced/fat fingers like mine highly likely will damage the chip - if not in the removal but in the SI-120 seating, haha.

Lol, how could IHS decrease temps on water but not on air? The cooling doesn't matter, when you remove the IHS you are eliminating 2 mediums from the thermal flow. The TIM paste and the IHS itself. Even on air the temps will drop... you just have to make sure your heatsink can be seated low enough; without the IHS the base of the heatsink will need to be like .5cm lower.

And any tips how to lower the hsf would be great

shaving/filing the socket mount is one method...

mount and measure the gap and then file accordingly.

Maybe this batch with super high temps has something to do with amd shipping the new the new heatpipe heatsink units, maybe they redesigned the stock hsf to handle the new thermal load.

what kind of case do you have that in? i have an si-120/high speed panaflo on an Opty 148 and i've never seen 43c max. 39c is my normal load temp @2.9 & 1.5v but i have excellent air cooling in my stacker.

It's a cooler master cavalier 3 (CAV-T03-WK-19) and neither I saw load temps higher than 45 with my earlier winny (1.58vcore) by using xp-90/92mm medium panaflo.

Check my first post for the picture of my rig. I have 46cfm 92mm panaflo (intake), 33cfm 80mm silentcat (for mosfets), 2x 76 cfm 120mm thunderblades (exhaust and for si-120)... The area b/w hs and rams is cold (not even warm), I can touch and hold my fingers on my ram as long as I want, and interestingly SI-120 heat channels are also not hot (not warm according to me).

So, I believe I have good airflow with a cpu from
