How to disable the OVP on 8RDA+ ?
Any Ideas ?

I think this is the reason why the board it shutting down @ high clocks + high voltage and i would try to disable it but duno how...
I am passive cooling all chips that i could find on this mobo and it helped a bit, but is still not as i would like it.

Maybe someone of you has an idea...

Thx N`cyas

Have you tried disabled Temp shutdown in BIOS (but don't recommend since it's a safety feature)?
Because 8RDA+ reads thermal data from internal diode to shutdown the system. But it shows temp in BIOS from Socket sensor. You might run into a situation that socket sensor is not high but on-die diode is very high.

I face this problem when a coldplate did not make good contact with CPU Die. BIOS says temp is 0C but M/B shut down in 5-10 seconds every time.

However, if you really want to disable OVP, I see a thread in this forum that could show you how to do the mod.

you can put a heatsink at the 3035 chipset next to the socket above the mosfets

well this is the only way to do it. two pic of my mods.:D

removal of resistor (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=99994)
using a vr and still having us of ovp (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=99941)

well first read this thread.ovp mod (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8344)

now what you do is remove the r678 resistor above the control chip.i did my carefuly prying on the resistor with a razor knife as a heated the solder joints with a iron.this alows you to safly remove it incase you wish to put it back for some reason like warranty or selling it.
then you have a choice to make.solder a 10k vr resistor and turn it up untill the ovp kicks in and that will give you a higher ovp point........
or just leave it alone and start turning up the voltage to the cpu.but you better cool the chips with heat sinks of some kind or you are going to......................one fried board.
just be careful..:)

What's the OVP set to default on the board? I don't really want to remove the resistor, but if it's too limiting I might have to...

Hey Bowman, nice job bud! :toast:

The way you did the mod is how DDTUNG recommended to do it in the thread that I posted. My board is still running fine with no overcurrent protection, but it would still be better to do the mod the way you did.

Yup, thx Bowman,

I did the mod and have no problems with shutdowns after.
