View Full Version : Can a 226w Peltier cause EMI on CPU?

I just installed a 226W Peltier + water cooled.
Before this, I ran AMD 1800+ T-bred A air-cooled. I could go up to 220MHz FSB on Epox 8RDA+ 2-3-3-7.
After using a Peltier, I could not go beyond 200MHz any more with same setting. Every setting/component is the same.

Is it possible that EMI (>20amps, 12V) could interfer the function of this CPU?

I heard that T-bred A has some trouble with EMI internally (on its own the circuit and that is one of the reasons AMD move to T-bred B)

I plonked my pelt PSU ontop of my CD-RW. I had to move it because it interfered with my monitor! I then found found CD-RW didn't burn anymore! Keep your Pelt PSU well away from your case. If you are running a 226w pelt off the case power supply then a) I don't know how you are running at all b) don't do it - this is the cause of instability. The peltier itself will not cause EMI since it is DC and the magnetic fields associated with a change in current will not happen since AC goes back and forth 50 times a second and DC is constantly passing current one way.
