It looks like DDR wasn't as choking on performance as was thought
And I think that means M2 isn't coming out as soon as we all think

AMD executives said the chip maker is working with its third-party vendors to ensure that the same socket that will be used for its forthcoming dual-core processors supporting DDR2 memory will also work for its quad-core processors, expected to be released in 2007.Hmmm.... I don't think they're talking about S939/940, do they? :D

really because it says

AMD reported this week that it is on track to rolling out quad-core processors by year end. What has our interests however is that AMD is now saying that its new quad-core processors will be compatible with existing AMD platforms -- as in sockets. The current AMD socket 939/940 plays host to the latest dual-core Athlons and the latest FX-60.

"AMD's quad-core chips will only work on Socket F platform"

EDIT: Quad-core :woot:

Right, Socket F will be the only "current" (see: this year; AM2, F, and S1) socket to use it, meaning we probably won't see quadcore on the desktop market until Socket "K8L" or whatever it's called, ala AMD64 with DDR3 support, and/or the new core in 2007(or perhaps 2008).

Or something along those lines.
