The new SLK-900 HSF will be featured on Thermalright (http://www.thermalright.com)'s website starting this week. Check it out @ EOC (http://www.extremeoc.com).

i'd suspect it will be actually measure 80mm x 80mm,
in contrast to slk-800's odd 80mm x 60mm dimentions, what with half the airflow escaping to the sides and not even touching the heatsink :stick:

hmm, i'd like to see some pics of this.

Hmm, is it possable ot have a cooler that performs better than the Slk-800?!?!?!

We'll see.
I should be getting one of these babies soon, I think it was already sent to me.
If you want I'll post some pics and results when I get it.

by all means do

and let us know how much better it does over the 800 :)

the 1 single reason i never bought a SLK800 was that it didn't use the mounting holes. Thermalright just removed that excuse.

they've got a couple pics on the website now.

Anyone know where to find a 92mm to 120 mm adapter. That 110cfm 92mm delta is as loud as my 152cfm 120mm delta.
If I get one of these baby's I don't want to give up any airflow.

felix88

you could always make one yourself. anyway, fan adapters generally restrict airflow and hinder performance.

I don't think I would lose 42cfm by adapting from 120mm to 92 mm.

i searched around a little bit, but i can't find any places that sell adapters.

i remember when the 60 > 80mm adapters first came out. people would stick a 60 some CFM 80mm fan on there, and they'd get higher temps than they did with their 38CFM 60mm delta.

anyway, good luck finding one.

It comes with a 90mm fan, so that's nice.

The Ghost, none of those are 92mm to 120mm adapters.

i don't think anyone makes them yet since there have been no heatsinks that used 92mm fans until now.

The Ghost

that is correct

i haven't been able to find any 92 to 120's

but the 80's would cover the fins better and this way you would be shoving all your air down on the copper fins,,instead of escaping it on the out side of the heat sink and letting the air from your fan to take the way of least resistance and not getting the full cooling effect :)

i thought the SLK 800 and MCX462+ were pretty much tied when it came to performance. some people say the swifty is better, others say the Thermalright is better.

i might have to give this SLK 900 a try when it comes out.

Heatsinkfactory.com will have them in the begining of next week and claim they'll be the first to have them.
Wondering what kind of 92mm fan to put on it.... Maybe I'll start with the Panaflow HO...Hmmmm

I really like the idea of the 92MM fan, but I have to wonder about this heatsink, lol. Anyone else get the feeling it was designed to work w/ a clip & not the 4-holes, then for some reason at the last minute they decided to not use the clip. I mean, look at the slot down thru the middle of the heatsink...what's the point of that thing if there is no clip? :)

Very interested to see how it performs tho...& what kind of mounting hardware they give ya. ;)

Edit: Nermind, I see what they did...but why in the world they did it like that I'll never understand. The base that bolts to the mobo runs thru the center of the heatsink just like a clip does. Why on earth would ya do that...not having the clip is a very good reason to put fins OVER the core, hehe :D

I dunno, N8, it kinda does look that way...

I can't get a grip from those pictures what the side actually looks like, how is that groove thing shaped? the pictures are not very good, eh??

glad the kx7 has those holes...

they probably added the 4 mounting hole plate after that monsterous chuck of copper became known as the socket puller around the thermalright testing lab...

yeah, although the dimensions of it (according to heatsinkfactory.com) are:
SLK-900-U: 81mm x 67mm x 45mm
vs
SLK-800: 87mm x 56mm x 48mm

So, it must weigh a little more than the slk-800, but enough to rip out a socket???

Better safe than sorry, I suppose. :D

felix88
02-04-2003, 02:14 AM
570g for the SLK900 vs. 505g for the SLK800. thats a lot of weight to be hanging on plastic tabs.

after i got this Alpha, i refuse to go back to the clips.

Does anyone have this sink yet?

i need to know if You have to take out your mobo if you need to remove the sink? not that it matters, but if i dont that would be a lil easier.

Thanks

if you use the right kind of nuts to attach the standoffs, they won't turn when you remove the HSF.

the holes are for mounting it on a P4!

it uses a thre prong clip for socket a.

and how could it be 81mm long and fit a 92mm fan on it? lets rethink those numbers. ;)

felix88

the chromed brackets are used for mounting a P4. the regular holes are for AMD.

the 81mm measurement is the bottom of the heatsink. it's 99mm wide at the top.

by the way Evil_Spork, WELCOME TO XTREME!!

Well, one is on it's way.

some reviewers are saying the SLK-900-U has a bit of a time fitting on some AMD mobos.

Also, there seems to be some confusion on which way to align the sink: Thermalright's site says it's supposed to be aligned with ends of fins on lug side, and one review site (the german one on thermalright's site) has it aligned 90 deg contrary to those directions.

Either way, I'll give y'all the lowdown when I get it - putting it on a 2100+ B and a kx7.
