View Full Version : Reservoir & Pump Mount questions

Before i finalize the config for my 1st WC setup, i wanted to check a few things that im unclear on:

I've ordered a cilindrical reservoir, but i realized that i cant be bothered to drill holes into the case to mount it outside, or for a fillport - im far too lazy :D
So my question is, how good (if at all) is the dangerden 5.25" res? I hear acrylic has issues in the long-term... but if its usable then it would solve all my problems.
Whats the best way to mount the pump so that it doesent transmit all the vibrations to the case? I think ive seen some rubberised double-screw mounts like the ones i use on my ultralight plane to isolate pumps/alternators and whatnot from the engine vibrations... those would be easy to mount on the bottom of my stacker 810.

Also: 1st post! :woot:

Thread right below this one on T line caping :D

As for mounting I like medium foam and/or bungie cords. Rubber washers etc don't absorb enough vibration. I dont know what pump you are using but if its small enough (even a mcp650) suspending via bungie cords is ideal. You can get a can of em from homedepot for cheap.

Thnx ^^

And yeah, i could, but i kind of like the idea of that DD reservoir... it would look nifty under my blue double-height VFD, if i stick a couple of blue leds under it :)

The pump is a DD5/MCP655.

Also, what do you mean by bungie cords?

Im still a little confused here - what do you mean by bungee cord, and will the acrylic in that reservoir crack like it does on blocks?

You mean this res?

No its HDPE. Very good plastic for our application.

As for bungy cords I meant something like this:

except a pump where the HDD is :D

I see your bungee cords :o

Quite literal, lol. Dunno quite how that will work in my stacker, i guess ill have to see, thankfully hardware stores arent very far away. :)

I think ill probably mount it on a really thick layer of rubber/silicon foam, cheap and easy to cut.

And no, what i was looking at is this one (http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?productid=53&cat=27&page=1), the one made of lucite. Actually the shop im looking at has the image of the single-bay one for the double-bay product, but same difrence.

I've never had a problem with any acrylic bay res that didn't leak BEFORE I got it ;)

Mount the Pump on top of Cardboard or foam might help. that is what I did with MCP350, and no vibrations.

Well, thats settled then, ill pick up a single-bay 5.25" DD reservoir, and pop by maplin to see what they have as far as think rubber. Might as well pick up some double-sided rubber tape to seal the space between the fans and the rad.

Or, i could go for the double-bay, and then let my double-bay VFD cover the front of my rad a little...

the PA120.2 would take up 6 5.25" bays but only pull air though 5... i dont think that would make much of a difference, no?

Blue led fans, blue VFD, and 2 blue leds in the res.. mmm :)
