This is nothing new. Many have been running this for years. Yahoo bought out Konfabulator a while back. This is merely an updated Konfabulator and branded with Yahoo brand.

(idd this is old news)

I hate widgets, they tend to use up a lot of memory and cpu resources whilst doing pretty much nothing. When being integrated into the OS it doesn't use additional resources. Also because it can make use of OS low-level functions the overall usage will be even lower.

But for people with :banana::banana::banana:ty PC's which are already slowed down by spyware, too much crappy software and nothing to do widgets can be great. Yahoo simply shows us that there are a lot of people like that.

widgets suck. they just suck up CPU cycles and memory, making your computer slower. Just look at OSX.. it has those widget things and they do nothing but slow the machine down.

Well it matters little if they suck...some form of them will be in windows vista, so better get used to them now ;)

And yet it still doesn't give me a reason to Leave BSD

i used konfabulator waht seems like ages ago... this isnt really anything new... yahoo isnt ending the world, and a widget in this sense is nothing like a completly 3D interface that vista will bring.

mmhhhhh kaaaay.... selected images from flickR and browsed through some and now it shows me a pic of some dudes balls... uh... yeah... nice pic to have on the desktop :stick:

uninstalled, nice lil thing to play with, but none of the widgets are really usefull... except for the weather forecast thing maybe...

and its really beta... lots of settings are missing for most widgets to be really usefull

That's the definition of widgets: Nice but not usefull, very buggy and resource hungry...
