How to print a file using a pc?.... across LAN to a printer connected the mac.

Ok... i've enabled printer and file sharing on the mac running OSX Jaguar, and then using the drivers on my PC i was able to locate the printer on the macintosh. I can select the printer, and it shows the address setup by the drivers but it still wont print. It even pops up a spooling window on my PC showing the job and then it disappears after about 5 seconds. Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong? I've setup dozens of networks using only PC's and never had an issue.

I wrote a few things on the screenshot. I forgot to add that the default setting the driver setup was \\192.168.1.6\sharon********* (edited for name privacy)

Heh... Neither have I. I'm sure I can figure it out quickly tomorrow when i get the time to do so. I'm off to bed for the moment.

File and printer sharing is on. I also have windows compatability on. (on the mac)

Currently I can log into the mac from my PC and browse folders, so its not a connection problem. It's probably just some obvious setting i'm missing.

It's actually quite easy to share a Mac printer to a Windows network -- easier with OS X 10.3 than it is with 10.4, however.

The simplest way, if you're running 10.4.x on your Mac, is to get Bonjour for Windows from Apple -- it's a free download.

With 10.3.x, sharing a printer to SMB was as simple as turning on Windows Sharing. With 10.4.x, Apple re-wrote their OpenSMB modules, and in doing so broke quite a few things, especially the handling of shared network resources. There are, however, some work-arounds. If you're running an OSX Mac on the same LAN with Windows machines, then you're silly if you dont have the free utility "SharePoints" added to your OSX. Get it, it makes things a lot easier :D
