The iMacs look pretty good, the MacBook Pro seems waaaaaay overpriced though, $2000 for a 1.63ghz Yonah, X1600 and 512mb ram? I'd think that $1400ish would be doable for that

I wonder what they're eventually gonna do with their PowerMacs....Yonah ain't SMP yet and the SMP Yonah (forget the name, sorry) may be price prohibitive (yes, even for Apple consumers).

Anyway, I know this just superceded a Z60 on my Laptop list and an iMac would be nice but my system could hand its ass to it and I've been getting more and more into gaming and two desktops isn't my cup of tea.

That MacBook is the tihs though.

Yeah, that's a lot of money. But compare it to the old PowerBook G4, also $2000. This is a bargain compared to that. Or, compare to similar PC's.:stick:

You pay a lot extra for the low height, the same goes for the MacBook. The difference is €100 (= $118).
Dunno how the Go7400 compares to the X1600 though.



I was hoping for a cheap iBook with a Core Solo (or Yonah Celeron, even better!), so I could get a Duo in it later on without paying that much. Guess I have to wait.

Really? Thought Apple somehow blocked Windows due to the Chipset (i mean where do you get Drivers for Windows on an Apple? :/ )

The best thing is, Apple offers to replace the x86 Dev. kits (with were around 999$ i think) with one MacBook Pro (1.63 Ghz Yonah) for free.
Did I mention my father owning one dev. kit? :fact:

This is why they're waiting for the new chips from intel, when the high end will come out (merom i guess), they'll release the powermac (will they name is the mac mac pro? :D) and when the single core yonah is released they'll release the ibook (macbook?) and the mac mini.
We can expect for a year full of surprise coming from apple, there is also leopard that we should start hearing from soon.
It'll also be interesting to see how often apple will release new hardware now. In the past, each computer was changed once every six months. I think that with intel we can expect once every three months if apple wants to keep up with the competition

My new 17" iMac will be here first of this week :banana: I bought the first gen
17" and loved it. Selling that one to my parents as they are tired of windowz and the bs that comes with it. I will let you know how much faster it is in real world speed, I don't trust bench marks as a speed test.

Keep us posted mysticmerlin, so far i heard that they are between 20 and 40% faster than the previous models. I don't know why but i never trusted Jobs marketing BS :D
The screen of the 17" isn't that great, it's the 20" that really blow you mind.
If you're parents have never seen an imac before they'll wonder where the comp has disappeared :D

If you're referring to the commercial, it's a shot-for shot rip off of the music video for "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service (http://music.yahoo.com/track/2047432). Same director too, and he's in hot water now.

First impression,
1. Crisper screen
2. a little more noise
3. I keep looking at the camera as I didn't have that on my 1st gen.
Maybe faster who know's at this point.

I see no "major" speed up. Just a crisper screen. They can claim 25 to 40% but I just don't notice it in every day app's and surfing. On the other hand I ripped Into the Blue on the G5 and on the Mactel with Mac the ripper and it was 1min 3sec. faster so it does move faster just like I say it doesn't "feel" faster on every day things.
So bottom line if you have been wanting a G5 and was waiting for the Mactel to come out, Well It didn't make a difference in speed but it does for longevity and compatibility with forthcoming software I guess. And a possable upgradable cpu to boot.
