I have a feeling the final result will look better than that as all the elements I don't like are very concepty elements that never make it to the final version.

Looks promising, although fairly long wheel-based

it's styled after 67-69 camero's,no mistake. just a modernflare.

looks like my 69 z-28 even the interior , mine has the 4 gauges right in front of the shifter and has a center colum just like the protype.

Cough, Challenger was a DODGE not a chevy. Just figured I'd fill you in on that one.

And if what Soulburner was another "concept" i'd prefer the one he posted over the other.

The car Soulburner posted is from a guy named Kris Horton for Popular Hotroding magazine on what he thought a 5th gen should look like. It is all computer generated and GM had no hand in it.

Personally, I've lost interest in Chevy... I'm waiting to see what Pontiac is gonna do in 08. The Grand Prix goes by by and supposedly will be replaced by a RWD Sibling to the GTO called the G8, no concept pics that I can find.

It's a good idea but they didn't pull it off nearly as well as FORD did with the '05 Mustang. It looks pretty cool from the side but the front makes me close my eyes, the rear isn't much better either.

I am so glad that they have brought back my favorite car, it looks pretty nice, and with a indy rear suspension and 400HP, it will be a G-Machine W00t

I think you guys are missing the picture here. Its called a CONCEPT! Do you understand the idea of a CONCEPT? It's not a final design... Its still 3 years away.

And I personally think it looks pretty cool :)

To Stewie007 :

Right about it.....Nice looking concept anyway....
Strong and smooth....Nice car....

Also, about your signature, i must admit that homo's are making a silent (so freaky) revolution......
And we get less and less chances to hit a women.
Because they caught your "frequency" and all of your testosteron is getting to them....caus' they are reacting to this stuff...as women are.
I'm damned straight also, and i don't konw of often i was considered as gay just because they were onto me just once......
I never hurt one of them, even thought they touched my arse or my body....friends told me i should have knocked him off.....unrespectfull guy....

The best way is to ignore them.....if they are bothering you...they have the instability...they are on a "fight" or whatever from Freedom against an evil unknown enemy.....:p:
don't let them bother you.....as least those who will "hit" you....
Walk away and return them their smile.....but with a nice looking straight face....straight in the eyes.....and play the last man to stop.....

We're back in Western time, Holly crap, gotta get my gun....;)

Anyway.....best way to show t(hat you're straght....

Buy this car..........

What I posted were only computer rendered images of a concept by a 3rd party. I think it looks better than what GM came up with personally, but the car should be more refined in the next couple years. It should be done in 2008, as a 2009 model.

Stewie007

Now all Pontiac has to do is bring back the Firebird... which I think they ought to have done instead of the GTO.

not bad, nice powerplant. as for the looks i hope it smooths out before release. about looking like a cadillac, i got a feeling if it wasnt white, black, or silver it would look no doubt like a chevy camaro.

I like it it matches my 69 Z/28....... Hugger orange w/black strips ...thats the original color.....its GM paint code 72 not sure if the orange on the proto type is the same as the original color. The top pic looks more like mine its a darker orange.Has the camaro look with a little corvette style in it. If it goes for around 30K one will be in my garage!!!!!! Hope it handles like a vet. those old muscle cars just don't have the ride and handleing like new auto do. Great for local cruseing but trips beat ya up.

Any specs on what power plants? I like to see the 302 back with a 6 speed grear box.

Incorrect, that would have been the LS6.

LS2 is in the GTO.

Stewie007
01-12-2006, 02:30 PM
The LS2 is in the GTO AND the Corvette Soul :) In fact its home was with the Vette first.

However, I'll be disappointed if they do their usual yet again.

Pontiac releases the GTO and claims its gonna compete with the mustang, but they cant figure out why they dont sell much.

I'm a GM fan all the way, but their tactics leave much to be desired in the sports car venue as far as feasibility to continue the models. The GTO won't last long with an LS2; people would rather have their less expensive Mustang's that I must say are quite appealing (to me), with more than one engine option and more practical engine sizes. GM needs to leave the pure muscle car idea behind, at least not make it the only option.

Actually read his post again. He said C5 Z06's which was the LS6. The new C6 gets the LS2 with the C6 Z06 getting the 427cid LS7 monster.

BTW fun fact - the old school LS2 was what? The SD455 in the T/A :slobber:

Hmm well the GTO was just a Holden Monaro which has been around in Australia for a while, it isn't really a "new" car so to speak but a few changes were made. I do like the GTO but I think it could have been done a bit differently...but they weren't going for the retro look with that one.

Stewie007
01-13-2006, 09:18 AM
I wasn't talking about the look. I'm talking about the engine. More people would have bought it if it had more reasonable powerplant selections.

Stewie007
01-13-2006, 02:03 PM
GM lovers are worried about GM going down. Sure, like DC would let that happen. But that's not the point.

In order to make money to sustain such a HUGE corporation with the resources that GM needs to stay alive you have to SELL. Selling to a niche is not enough. GM needs to realize this, because I'd really love to see a redesigned GTO that sells 3 times as many, and a Camaro that outsells the Mustang.

But with their current mentality and stubbornness to convert and realize that MOST people don't want something that gives them 13 miles to the gallon. In 2009, less will. So, they either make it sellable, or only the niche will buy it...period. And a niche isn't enough.

SMUJeremyZ28

6th gear @ 80mph gets 30mpg in an LS1, around 24-26 for the LS7 is reasonable.

Stewie007
01-14-2006, 08:11 AM
Well, if you drive in 6th gear at 80mph all the time, then fine. Must have alot of speeding tickets then.

Soulburner

Well I am talking interestate driving here. 5th on the highway can pull decent mileage also. It's the low speed driving that uses more gas. GM's LSX engines prove that you can have horsepower, displacement, AND mileage which decades ago anyone would have thought to be impossible.

Stewie007
01-14-2006, 08:55 AM
I'm not disagreeing... Higher gears always yeild better milage, thats why HWY MPG is always better. I'm just saying, from a practical standpoint, where most of people's driving is not done on the interstate; it will not be appealing. That isn't important to people that want this kind of thing, like me and you. But we're a part of a niche, and most people will not want this kind of displacement because of real gas milage concerns, and the fact that they wont be in upper gears that much at all.

I say, upgrade the LS2 to include Displacement on Demand, good selling point. V4 Milage on the Highways, and seamless activation and deactivation. Power when you want it, efficiency when you don't need power.

Then offer a smaller V6 Version.

That will make it sellable.

Those higher numbers are maximum. And you'd be lying if you said that's where you average, unless you drive your sports car like a grandpa.

You don't drive on highway's all the time, so you're actual average is much lower. Naturally you're gonna brag about your highest MPG, because it sounds more impressive. It is likely that you average somewhere around 19 or 20MPG on average, again, unless you drive it like a grandfather.

The first # is city and the second # is highway...and they are about dead on.

My car was rated 18/26. Well, I get 18mpg on an average tank of day to day driving. I don't drive on the highway/interstate but those that do say they manage around 24-26 for the A4 and 28-32 for the M6 transmission...I really don't think the numbers are bs at all.

Stewie007
01-15-2006, 04:59 PM
Really, the higher numbers are highway? I know that, I'm not dumb. :p

They may be accurate, which in general they are pretty accurate for the most part. But the point is in general you average somewhere in between because you're not always driving on highway conditions. THAT is what makes V8s unappealing to most people.

Soulburner

Soulburner
01-18-2006, 01:14 AM
I'm not trying to argue just making a point...I understand what you mean that not everyone wants power but think about it. That's the audience that GM shoots for with these cars. If you want mileage you will buy a honda and enjoy the tradeoff you made, power for fuel efficiency. NOT one of these LSX powered cars. The Corvette, GTO, F-Body, etc, were never made to attract the fuel concious crowd in the first place and probably never will be. That is why they have many other cars to choose from that are lower on the food chain.

Well, to get 450 Horses you need a V8, anything smaller eats even more fuel if it can get that HP rating.

Its the "Pure Muscle Car" that GM is after. And a V4 or 6 wont do it. But a V6 oughta be offered.

6th gear @ 80mph gets 30mpg in an LS1, around 24-26 for the LS7 is reasonable.

I can vouch for this. My LS1 is now stroked to 383ci (about 6.2L) and I get about 27mpg on the highway while cruising in 6th gear (0.50:1) at 70mph with 4:10 gears. Go figure.

I have a 99 vette, and get around 17-18mpg... and I drive it like it's right! lol If i drive somewhat normal, I can get my mpg into the 20's. I haven't gone on any long trips with it, but i'm sure if I was in 6th gear all the time I could get in the mid 20's... but you need to be going at least 70-75+ for 6th to be usable, unless there are no hills, or inclines.

On side note, I think the challenger concept is hotter then any of the new concepts, or retro cars (mustang).
